Is this the set up I've been waiting for...?
Me and a few mates have been frustrated with the rubbish spod reels in the market and have often wondered when one of the big 2 would bring out a spod reel that's as durable as the Daiwa Emblem but more refined, Daiwa have bought out the new Super Spod Reel, could this be it I wonder?
I've also been in the market for a top end spod rod in 13' that is light weight and easier to use at range, I have been waiting for Korda to bring out the 13' Kaizen to no avail and the Shimano Intensity is out of stock everywhere and has been most of the year.
Daiwa may have come up trumps here too with the new 13' Tournament Spod.
Going to check this set up out next time I'm in the tackle shop 🤞🏼

Cant see the retrieve rate for the reel documented anywhere. Key info for a spod reel imo.

Aviator spod rod?it's about as light as a spod rod can be and is dead easy to use at range. Those kaizen things are chunky lumps so can't see the spod being any different,or that light.

I don't understand why these spod reels have a clutch? They should make make a modern version of the SS45.
And why does nobody seem to make a marker reel. A reel with no clutch, but had a baitrunner type free spool lever.

The 12' Kaizen Spod Rod is as light as a feather, as are the rest of the range. Daiwa Blanks are by far the lightest, thicker diameter / thinner wall thickness than all other brands.

Really? By far? Sorry but I just dont believe that. Don't get me wrong they do make some nice rods , very nice indeed. But are they really better than the likes of Harrison or century? Can't see it myself. Can't really make those sort of claims unless you've used everything everyone else has to offer though so maybe you're right if you've done that. As for the kaizens, wow they are a hell of an expensive rod for something off the shelf . And the quality of the components has been questioned by some people (including a reputable rod builder on here) .

I have just bought one and spooled it up with 0.28mm j braid. It didn't need the whole 300m to fill the spool. At least to the level I consider suitable for casting with braid.

I would have a look at the Free Spirit Helical 13ft 4.5lb 2-Piece SPM Bait Up Rod for £129.00.
Nice rod for the money.
Saves you money for a nice reel if you find one.

Why exactly can't I question it? It's perfectly reasonable to ask questions,no? You've just said it yourself, other rods have more capability. I never said the blanks aren't capable either. But why on earth would you pay that sort of money when you can get something with better quality components,for a better price?

A friend has the kaizen spod and he loves it. I fancy a new spod but am torn between the kaizen or the aviator.

The aviator isn't stiff af at all? It's very easy to get the best out of it. No I've not used a daiwa spod rod, I have used various fishing rods of theirs and have never been blown away by them. Different people get on with different things so I don't need any evidence because it's all personal preference, therefore there isnt any evidence either way

I would make contact with Mark Hutchinson and Terry Edmonds and ask them, or go for a days casting tuition and personally try out as many spod rods that take your fancy, as possible, especially before shelling out high end money.

It's only carp rods that go for thin blank/thick walls. Which tells you that the only benefit of doing it that way is cosmetic.....

Daiwa blanks are superb. Ive owned a basia and infinty spod rods also had hi s, never owned a harrison spod rod. Currently own a century graphene spod rod and its by far the lightest spod rod ive owned. Its definitely lighter than the daiwa spod rods i had. Tft are doing the 13ft daiwa basia spod rod for £240 at the minute so less than half price if you want one of those.
I looked at the new super spod reel but always wary if the basia design is suitable for long range prolonged spodding so went for the newer version emblem 35 spod reel which is less than half price at the minute at ad.

Yeah I've bought one of those 35 Spod Reels, hasn't arrived yet but was thinking of just returning it and getting the Super Spod... I usually use Shimano Reels but Daiwa for the Spod Reels.
Noticed they've got the Basia Spod Rods cheap at TFT, I've got the Basia X45 Rods and they are fantastic.
Yeah I've bought one of those 35 Spod Reels, hasn't arrived yet but was thinking of just returning it and getting the Super Spod... I usually use Shimano Reels but Daiwa for the Spod Reels.

My emblem 35 spod reel came today and very impressed, feels a lot nicer than my original emblem spod. Hopefully it will last just as long. Im very tempted to get two more for my cat rods at the price there at at the min.
