Thanks mate. Used them for the fist time today and felt horrendous to play fish on. Need a better set 👍

5500 xtd. Just felt cheap to play fish on. Felt alright in the tackle shop lol. I thought the amount they sell they must be brilliant. Nope not for me.

I have a set on my 10ft rods and theyre alright,but far from the quality you expect.from shimano but to be fair,for what I paid for them it's about right.

The xtb were excellent. Can't really comment on the rest.
The plastic rear end was a crappie coating and the little plastic bit was prone to breaking.
But the reel felt like a classy Swiss watch with a handle attached.

I agree the xtb were good,only thing was the silver wrap started flaking off the back bits and they went really tatty,I quite liked the baitrunner spool cap.

I still have mine purchased circa 2008. Apart from one tatty plastic cap where the paint has flaked off & cracked (they discontinued the replacement ends...) they have stood the test of time.
The daiwa are a big price jump (the whiskers) maybe the shimano c14s ?

What don't you like about the shimano 5500 xtd.
I use old daiwa emblem S 5000t on my lighter set up and they are perfect, but they do need a couple of modifications to make them more user friendly. New line clips and a qd cnversion for the drag cap and they are lovely reels.
Fast retrieve, good cranking power, good line lay, light and a bit old school cool.

I agree, I got a set when they first came out, still usable now but the little plastic bit at the back has snapped on 2, great shame as they are still v smooth, but not in use anymore.

Really?? ... i thought the XTBs were shockingly bad, especially at the circa £180 they were selling for at the beginning .... As were the XTC's that followed them, and im guessing the XTD's are no better (though i never owned XTD's) .... Only reason i stuck with the XTB's was no-one else had a reel similar in size at the time .... Thank god, that has changed over last few years

I sold my xtb's as they were tatty but they performed well, git the xtc and they were a plastic piece of **** tbh, the xtd are considerably better then the xtc

I use 5500 xtd for spod and marker work and 5500 xsc for main reels currently and have no issues with them. line lay could be a bit better but I believe that can be fixed with adding/removing washers. must admit I've only really ever had shimano so can't compare to other manufacturers
Shimano need to bring out a technium 5500

i have had XTB, XTC and now have XTC Ci4s all on 5500
the first two weren't great at all. but for the money the Ci4s for me are superb and cannot fault them (i have 4). although i know some dont agree.

So for the non initiated amongst us, what's the difference/upgrade with the ci4 reels?
I have read all the blurb, but how does that translate to the actual usage of the reel.

I could never justify in my head the delta in cost for daiwa, I do own a set of emblem z for my large water set up, ok they are old a bit clunky though I'm ok with that.
If anything I do feel daiwa take advantage of the market with their pricing..
If blind tested would we really be able to differentiate?

I tried a set apart from them being a bit lighter I struggled to see anything really different, maybe on the 14000 spool the line lay is better ?
