Anyone else had battery problems with the fox digital scales (orange and black ones)? Mine seem to eat the battery between sessions, even though there switched off? I've tried rechargeable ones and expensive ones,same result! It's not as though it's easy to remove them after each session either!

Yes. Mine have done this since I bought them years ago.
To get around it I used to open the back and flip one battery around the other way. Right pain in the ass :(
I no longer use them as it's such a pain, they just sit in storage.
I bought the small green round Korum scales, they are very good.
Side note:
I also bought some AVID digital scales (I think Sabre do similar/cheaper ones). The AVID aren't that great, I have no confidence in their readings...my PB was reported at 37lb something and when I got home I loaded the scales on a tripod with bags of boilies to get back to the 37lb weight. I then took that sling and weighed it on spring Reubens, digital Korum, digital Fox and old spring Avons.
All scales (except the AVID) said 38lb 10oz so my PB went up a few ounces!

The wychwood ones have given me no trouble. Not that I have much cause to use them!

I got a set of the original Fox scales with the built in folding handle and it has the same problem
but to me it really is not a big deal at all ? I too simply open the cover reverse one battery when I pack up
and next time I go fishing I open and put the battery round the right way its no biggy for a super set of scales

I have the second gen scales and am just now needing to change the batteries now that I think were second hand and in the scales when i got them about 4 years ago.
Now I need to remember if I did buy second hand lol, was a code deal from ebay when i got them

I've had a couple of set of digitals (Korum & Fox) and ended up with a set of Ruben dial scales as I got sick of issues..OK there not bullet proof (i squashed mine and cracked the back but RH fixed them for free) but work when you need them to and in any weather.

Same, although I left them there for a very long time while I had a break from fishing and the contacts started corroding. Bot of a brush and they work fine now

Best solution is lithium batteries (rechargeable ideally)
Nice have been in my scales for over 3 years used em quite a bit and they are still good and will never ever leak

It sounds like perhaps they have developed a fault a short perhaps a connection internally is damaged I would just send a email to fox asking them for advice depending on their age they may be prepared to look at them.

The reason for the contacts corroding is due to the batteries leaking through not being used.
What happens is there's a hydrogen build up they then expand and leak.
You were lucky it just corroded the terminals.
Any product which uses alkaline batteries you should remove if not planning to use the end product for a while.

Yeah I had the older ones thats what I used to do ,but the newer ones have 4 LONG screws,which take a few minutes to takeout/put back.
So I think I'll contact fox,as suggested and last resort ,keep the screws out and use sticky tape instead,so I can take out batteries between fish.

Stick with old fashion dial scales. Reuben Heaton is my choice.

Defo a fault. Had mine 3 years and still on the same set of batteries.
I have have had a set of Rubens for donkeys, only recently bought the wychwood digitals to save a bit of weight and rucksack space.
People always go on about how bulletproof the old dial Rubens are. Yet think of all the stories of British records where the scales had to go off and they were found to be at least a pound or two out. I probably trust the digi's more tbh.

I had a set of salter digitals before digitals really took off.
I bought them from Penge Angling as fishing scales but I never got on with them and went back to dial scales in 2007.
I found that as droplets of water fell the reading would never keep still and not settle, There was a 'hold' setting that was supposed to latch onto the correct weight but if you released the hold setting and reapplied it you'd get a different reading.
I've not used them but I would imagine the newer digitals don't suffer with this problem but worries me is that when you get a steady reading with a flapping fish has it latched onto the correct weight?
Having said that with dial scales you do get needle movement but there's usually a short moment when the needle stays still and enough to get a reading.
Another advantage is they are easy to tare and you can leave them outside in the rain
I sent my Reubens away for a service and recalibration but if they break beyond repair then perhaps I'll give digitals some consideration but I'm in no rush
BTW you also had to remove the battery from the Salter's when not in use as the battery would drain.

I got a set of those scales back in november I think? Put in some batteries and never used them, cos I did not go fishing until march. When I first used them the batteries were dead
. I was less than impressed. Put in new batteries and have since then weighed quite a few fish, and the battery indicator is still showing full batteries. It's a bit weird.

The second gen fox digital only lock on to a weight after it has been steady for a second or so, it won't just latch on at some random time. I find them far easier for weighing fish with.

Still using first generation Fox Digitals and although flipping the battery is a mild pain the scales themselves (at over 18yrs old) have seemingly retained their accuracy. Caught a scraper 40 on my lake the other week and got the weight witnessed and weighed on a newish set of second generation Fox digitals; exactly the same reading!
