Hello guys, after some help here!! Been using the same old JRC bedchair for the last 16 years and think it might finally be time for an upgrade 🤣 Confused though as to what exactly a sleep system is vs buying a bed and bag separately. I wasn't confused, until I started to look into the pricing...
Basically, looking at the 6 legged Fox flatliner.. the bed alone is £264. And a 3 season flatliner sleeping bag is £129, totalling £393. The 3 season sleepsystem however, comes in at £440! Why?! Is there more to this than I'm seeing? Does it come with other stuff at that price? Is the bed different to the standard bed? I just don't get it... because from what I can tell (from Fox's videos themselves) you can attach the bags via a zip to the underside of the beds.. and looking at the sleep systems, that's all they are (or seem to be!)... a bed with a bag already attached.
Why would I pay £47 more for a sleep system, if I can create the same system for less by buying the items separately? Surely I'm being a div and missing something, but what is it?!

Personally I prefer a separate bag as I find the bags on most systems too tight, the only system i've had that was roomy was a rod hutchinson big kipper where the bag was the best i've ever had but the bed was awful.
Depends on personal preference really

Thanks mate, I hear you. Not tried a sleep system before. But, was more posting because I'm confused as to the sleep systems costing a lot more to buy than buying the bed and bag separately. I'm obviously missing something, but don't know what.

Oh wow yeah, they have some cheapppp stuff on that site. I guess I should rephrase my question to something like, what's the difference between a sleep system and the same bed and bag separately haha.

I can only echo post 2.
For years I've used fairly standard bed chairs (Nash & JRC) with a separate Trakker bag, no issues at all.
Thought I'd treat myself to a new sleep system, the new Nash all season but I didn't do my research, ridiculously heavy and as post 2 says very tight for space.
And I would add, not that warm either.
Stick with separates.

I"m still very happy with my Fox duralite bed with the 1/3/5 season sleeping bags, wouldn't want to go back to a separate bed and sleeping bag.
Maybe one day when a light bedchair with a high-density mattress comes on the market that is min 205 x 80 I'll buy it with a fortis snugpak bag, but the Duralite sleeping bags are so good that this won't happen soon.

Thanks for the help guys. Ended up buying a Solar CH08 this morning. Was at such a good price I couldn't resist. Hopefully I like it! Thanks again all

thing I don't like about the few systems I've seen is the fact you sleep direct on the matress, I like something under neath me like a sheet at home or the bottom of the sleeping bag on the bank....

With the Duralite you don't have that, it are 3 normal sleepingbags but you zip them on the Duralite bed instead of securing them with strap

I've always viewed sleep systems a bit like the old tv with a built in video or dvd player, one part packs up rendering the other useless.

Personal view is that while the sleeping bag or bed may be right, the other may not be.
For that reason I prefer separates. My sleeping bag is an All Season by Rod Hutchinson, and the bedchair is a Solar Undercover.
In summer I don't always sleep in the bag, just under an Ultimate cover.

Long before thier invention I use a quilt with cover up until autumn as just can't stand sleeping on a base that moves - I then moved to the original Nash one that just had the bags on top as when I wriggle it doesn't scrunch up the bag. I could never go back to a bag. You never sleep on and under a sewn in quilt at home, so why do it on the bank - although I rarebit ever fish winter nights.

I have a nash ss5 sleep system its brilliant but very heavy. In the summer I strip off the mattress and just use a cover. Light as a feather but good on quick warm overnight trips

Always used a separate bag and bed for years. My old 25+ year old JRC XLite Cocoon with a Trakker Big Snooze bag and Aqua Fleece overblanket cover me for all year round use.
The downside was it that was 3 different items of luggage and the bed was elasticated all around the edges, not the newer style fold over and laced in the middle underside type bed, eliminating sag.
I saw a shop damaged Nash MF60 sleep system going for £100 so snapped it up, swapped the damaged legs with my JRC ones and hey presto £500 sleep system for £100
I have been very surprised at how good it is (except the weight but it is memory foam mattress). It's extremely comfy, everything stays in place, is warm throughout the year and with the double layered bag is versatile throughout the changing seasons. Truth be told I wouldn't have bought one if it wasn't so cheap a deal but I now like it.
I have noticed that JRC now do a modern XLite with articulated hinges and newer style middle elasticated mattress so in time may opt for one of these with the old bag permanently attached for a lighter set up.
