Thinking about getting one, the Drivesmart Guardian looks like the 1st choice so far, only problem is....it only updates the data base from a Windows PC not a Mac (that I have), so, any recommendations that actually do what they say on the tin?

I just use google maps and it always tells me when I'm approaching either a fixed camera or a mobile camera
Plus any others that people have notified them on

If you have a modern car which supports Apple CarPlay or android auto to connect your phone to I would recommend Waze as it has maps and speed cameras built in even picks up temporary ones as it's a community app.

I know about Waze but didm't know it picked up speed cams, and I didn't know about Apple, thanks very much for the info...I am now putting on my research head, any more options are most welcome

Look on snoopers website or Aguri website they do one that's a Dash cam and speed cam detector in one

They aren't illegal but traffic cops get the right hump and give you all sorts of grief, instantly have you down as a racer, then again they are probably right.

Devices that warn you where fixed speed cameras are placed. Most sat nav apps do that already don't they?
Or devices that detects the beam emitted from the speed camera.
The police around here are moving around with mobile speed cameras covering many areas in a day catching many people. New limits in 20mph areas means you'll get done if you are caught doing 24mph.

I live in Devon where public transport takes ages just to ho round the corner,
lots of hills, easy to pick up a bit more speed, easy to get a ticket, so, trying to avoid all of that.

As said, I know about Waze, but does it show all speed cameras fixed and hand held also average speed cameras?

What I was looking for was a user and to say his/hers is good, or not so good etc.

It show fixed and average speed cameras.
As said it's a community app meaning for mobile cameras, accidents it relies on the community to input those.
I think it's very good and has saved my bacon a few times and rerouted when their has been an accident.
My car displays also the speed speed limit and has predictive adaptive cruise control so I guess I'm spoilt

Waze is a lot more accurate on picking speed camera's than google maps, i cant see legally how they would know there's a speed van or gun unless someone reported it on the app.
I prefer the lay out of google maps though.

I'll lend you my car. Its brilliant at detecting them. So good that it does it without me even knowing until a week later when I get a letter about it...

They will very rarely prosecute if you are in a 20mph zone and going below 30mph. Was told this on a speed awareness course and also by a traffic copper - to do with the fact its more open to scrutiny if challenged in a court.
The snoopers and drive smarts are good - as said if you get collared by the police with one they tend to put a flag on your car on the ANPR system so you will start to get pulled more often.
Waze also good & google is getting better but generally only in place for longer term cameras and not mobile ones.

I got to 12 points (all in the space of 2 weeks) in 2017 - been a good boy since then.

Yes it's widespread, happening all the time do 24mph and you'll get done.
It's a Khan/Met idea and most of London will become 20mph.
I'm against speeding but on some roads it is difficult to keep to 20mph, your eyes need to be on the road not on the speedo.

Set the speed limiter
Yup it's a pain but it does save the fine especially at 20 as that is really hard to judge

I got a Police SNT (Safe Neighbourhood Team) meeting with a councillor and another resident on 22nd March.
We've become a bypass for the A20 so 3 NIMBY councillors, 2 ex MPs plus a number of the local mayor's chums can live in their gentrified area.
Do your self a favour and sign that petition, you never know maybe the unexpected will affect you one day.
