Ive got an SJ9 and salopettes for the colder weather. Great for the cold, but they aren't totally waterproof. Can anyone recommend any decent over jackets and trousers?

I looked for ages for similar and ended up with the fortis marine . They fit me the best but were more than i wanted to pay.

Just had a look. Pricey at around £300 for the jacket and trousers ain't they.

If your not bothered about colour look at matrix 25k tri layer jacket and they do bib and brace or trousers , at 25k hydrostatic head they are the most waterproof I found for the money. The vass is as waterproof but suffers from condensation inside as others have said on here.

Ive just purchased a bib brace and jacket from Avid, and its perfect. Totally waterproof 20k material in brown camo. I wore it last weekend and it thrashed it down with an easterly wind and with my base layers i was warm and dry.
I have UK Army MTP waterproof jacket and trousers and Hoggs of Fife jacket and trousers.
The MTP are plain straight waterproof, no extras, the Hoggs are 'proper' winter clothing, designed for shooting or outdoor activities.

Hoggs of Fife is very good but lots the shooting/field sports stuff is far superior to the stuff in your average tackle shop.

If you just want over trousers to be waterproof then just get some nylon ones from go outdoors. You don't need goretex trousers if you're just sitting about on the bank. Think you can get some olive green nylon ones in there for about £15.

I had this problem aswell got some decent jacket and bottoms but they wasn't waterproof, I found most fishing stuff was no good so I went to millers and got a north face jacket (one to add to the collection) and some waterproof north face trousers both are 100% waterproof and much more better made. From memory it cost about £240/£250 for the full set but it's really good quality

Well I worked at Heathrow airport sometimes double shift 18 hours in the rain and snow and de-icing fluid dripping on me
our company tried lots of different waterproofs and PPE THEN they bought some flexothane over trousers and jackets they were perfect 100% dry all day and they are stretchy too

Yeah because they all think the only waterproof worth having is goretex and are taken in by the hype of it.
GORETEX is really not brilliant at anything, but it does have a purpose that it is more breathable and that stops you retaining moisture when you're active and in turn getting cold. Whenever you make something more breathable, it comes either at the cost of waterproofing, or more likely durability of the fabric. I wouldn't want to wear my expensive arcteryx trousers for fishing and sitting still because they would get ruined in a session.

I tend to be pretty active, whatever I am fishing for, carp, pike, chub or roach, and I sit outside or under just a Brolly quite frequently. It's OK with just plain waterproof trousers, but with the Hoggs jacket and overtrousers, I actually have something keeping me warmer, and I do fish down to below freezing. My trousers have knee patches, which is handy for kneeling down and straddling pike on the mat.
The combat overtrousers tend to last longer than a pair from Millets or GoOutdoors, and if you shop around cost around the same.

I have just got the full suit from Avid, nice roomy jacket so I can wear a softie underneath, decent bib and brace.
I was considering the ESP 25k but I'd have needed to try on before I spent £250 and there are no local stockists so took a punt on the less expensive Avid.
I will still use my army goretex when it isn't cold.
