Probably not a problem you have encountered in the uk but I'm looking for ideas that may have worked for crayfish problems. I have dealt with Crays whilst living in England but now I've started carp fishing in USA turtles are brutal I have hard pop ups but they are lucky if they last 20 minutes. I've seen the esp plastic boilies and also been thinking of using cork balls and soaking them since they are pretty close in colour to the live system boilies I am feeding will these pop up a size 4 hook. I've also been using plastic corn with a boilie just so I have something left to give me a chance of a bite and have been using helicopter rigs with stiff booms so it resets and doesn't get tangled as it's picked up. Am open to any suggestions people may have especially for a bottom bait alternative.

Lakes I fish have terrapins in the size of dinner plates. Fortunately they don't seem too much of a problem. I have fished lakes with mitten crabs in and they are as bad as crayfish. Especially if you fish close in where their burrow are. Further out is better.

We're having lots of turtles here in Croatia as well. I started using super hard, dried/salted boilies, which helps quite a bit. When I'm fishing fresh or glugged boilies I use Korda Super Wrap, which also works quite good to keep them off the bait.

I'm in Oz, and they can be a real pain. I wrap boilies if turtles are bad, but don't use the mesh. Found the Korda super wrap the best. They tend to slow down as the water colder too. They don't seem to be too fussed with particle, so that's another option for you to try. The other thing I've tried in the past whilst bring mullered by turtles and eels is to empty a can or 2 of dog food into the water, away from where you are fishing.

I just looked at the Korda bait wraps they look like a good option didn't even know there was such a thing and the wooden ball post I looked at too both seem like perfect solutions. I also want to try the dog food idea too because there's too different types of turtles small ones and big snapping turtles I'm not sure if the carp will stay around with the smaller ones or not and I'm pretty such they would move out if a big snapping turtle came in to the area.

They don't like very sweet or very salty baits. I'm currently using highly salted baits as I'm fishing a tidal zone. I have had success in the past with scopex boilies glugged in golden syrup.
I also know a guy who uses chocolate flavoured boilies, but I haven't tried that personally.
I don't think you can completely eliminate the problem, but I hope this helps

I caught a Softshell Turtle whilst fishing with bread for Sunfish and Crappies in Florida. My god do they pull, but they are also docile creatures. Managed to unhook it whilst it was grunting at me. Sadly I didn't manage to get the other 1/0 hook embedded through its nose!

I've been using cc Moore live system which is quite a sweet bait and using fruity pop ups but I might switch to tiger nuts and see if that makes a different which I didn't think of until you said that. I have also hooked catfish on live system so the tigers might help with that also.

Dont bother with branded shrink wraps (unless you want to), its much cheaper looking at clear shrink wrap at a local electrical wholesalers (or online) You might have to get a few samples before you can find the right size for whatever bait your using.
Way back when, I fished a water where the baits needed wrapping and you went through a lot of bait. Having said that I think I still have at least a third of a 100m roll of wrap somewhere in the garage

From watching cartoons in my childhood, I would recommend paying someone to conduct petty crimes in the local area. This should also get rid of some of the rats as well.
