Brexit...

I saw a post on another site saying that £20,000 of perishable foods was stuck in the traffic. Champagne, oysters etc.
Apparently on its way to Jacob Rees Mogg's mansion for their summer garden party.
Kind of hoping its true

Fernand Gontier, 62, director general of France's PAF Border Police, has been moaning about Britain leaving the EU since the referendum in 2016 — calling it a “regression”.
He was accused of being responsible for there not being enough French officers in Dover port to process checks on Friday.

Coupled with a French President that hates British people

Why aren't leave voters furious that the advertised promise to 'take back control' of borders has, in reality, turned into 'give full control to the French when crossing the channel'.

you have remoaners both French and UK blaming everything nothing to do with covid or anything of course
but the hold ups have been traced to this high ranking police officer deliberately not having enough cover and obviously its affecting French travellers and all the countries using the ferrys its going to settle down in a week or so Im sure

Come on gerry

Even the staunchest brexiteer has to admit that it's the major contributory factor.

Stopping free movement works both ways.

Not wanting to get into another brexit debate, just simple logic.

By the way, I'm actively pushing 'brexitears' as a phrase for all those who are unhappy that they got what they asked for

They would soon love us again if they need liberating in the near future .

Typical French

They forget the sacrifices made by us and the yanks far too easily , perhaps they need a lesson hopefully when Russia invades them .

This is the desired result

On fuel bills... and the pesky french...

EDF is a french state owned energy company. They've increased their prices here by over 50%. In France they've been capped by government at a 4% increase...

Let's not forget, the French are being nice atm.

What would happen if they started searching every car for meat or dairy products, from a ham sandwich to a bag of boilies?

They have every right to do so if they choose.

It's only the Left that spin that bull. We could make life hell for all foreigner's entering the UK from Europe, before and after Brexit. We always play fair the Frogs dont know the meaning, they still despise us for sinking their navy during the 2nd world war.

Systems in place??? You dont travel much do u mate, any entry point is staffed by no more than 6 blokes checking papers etc, you can create mayhem with 3 on holiday.

Funny how the frog border checks still wanted to see a passport prior to Brexit.

See Tinheads post, its bob on but dont let that get in the way of your Left Wing agenda and deceit, it's why you'll always be on the losing side in the long run and it helps me sleep very soundly every night

Post 20, more un-educated Left Wing rubbish, yes the French government have limited the increase to 4% yes that's the uneducated Lefty headline but if you tell the truth and extrapolate the story at some point the French public will pay the price one way or another, the can has just been kicked down the road. The truth doesn't suit Mal , the headline is a cheap win but not the final end to a story encompassing every developed country.

My French MD tells me his kids and grand kids will be paying to bale out todays voters, funny how an educated man didn't point that out at the end of his post???

Then again school teachers, never lived a life outside a Lefty system ,School, Uni , School, the poor sods are more institutionalized than your average prison lifer, the system has screwed the poor sod up so much he knows no different, reading Lefty posts on here is like watching 70's TV.

You'll always be a percentage, the small real world un-educated minority.

Distant from the reality's of life, cocooned in a system and paymasters you despise but can not leave because every other option is far too scary, then there's the pension the tax payers fund and you despise many of those too, never too Left to take the money though, rinse and repeat

"As for the rest of your post it's just bluster and guff but it's a public forum so on you go." you meant fact?

Is it six or eight weeks more holiday left this summer? not to mention all the other half terms between now and Christmas, no doubt this will put you at the forefront of the publics thoughts when the NUT ballet for strike action later
this year.

Can you imagine what would happen if the illegals had Ireland as their desired destination?

Nigel and Priti would be driving the coaches from Kent to Holyhead while their gammon army pump up inflatable unicorns on the beach for the poor buggers to sail off on.

The illegals have already made Ireland their destination. Ireland reported the other week that they have no space for anyone, as they cannot cope with the hundreds of Ukrainians arriving, let alone the economic migrants who are now roaming the streets of Dublin.

of course the systems are in place, hence why there are people being sent back to Romania/Bulgaria on a daily basis because they think they can just rock up and work in a car wash for buttons like they did two years ago. One benefit of all this is the human trafficking side. You would not believe the amount of 16 year old girls who come from the aforementioned countries to work as "cleaners" yet would have just ended up into prostitution if it was not for the stricter entry requirements.

How much is a ferry these days? Just booked the train and it's coming out at around £170 return, which isn't shabby at all (baring in mind the train over there is at 02:30)

Hi Bob! Let's butt heads again. We have delayed checks on goods coming from the EU several times as the systems required are still not in place 6 years, yep 6 years after the vote to leave. So, no, we don't have any control over goods coming into the uk.

As for your other point, I thought we had taken back control? unless we haven't.

Dover is a bottle neck as thousands of people and vehicles are funnelled through a small area which the government refused to expand. Dover and Calais are unique for a host of reasons which is partly why you don't hear of problems in other countries. Dover and Calais are also gateways to other countries in Europe for people choosing to drive rather than fly.

Our conversations on these matters over the years illustrate the problem. Hard evidence and reality vs belief and wanting the world to be as you would like it to be.

I take no pleasure in the brexit ****show. It leaves us all worse off-unless you're wealthy enough to be insulated from the consequences.

Or it could be the French just not playing ball.
If processing takes twice as long then the delays should be twice as long, under manning at the busiest time of the year seems to be the reason
I don't think anyone said Brexit would be an overnight success, I certainly didn't.
It's going to take time, I'm not super wealthy but I'm coping.

Mate I'm a democrat, so although I didn't vote for what we have I accept it and want it to be a winner.
There were many types of deal to be done and still are. Yorping away through a megaphone across the channel that it's all your fault is a numbskulls approach to solving problems and needs to end.
Few people who ever bought a pig in a poke admit it but a reality check is needed and another approach with the EU needs sorting by statesmanship.

Not burying your head in the sand cause at some point fook knows when it'll be fine.

Of course! The better business does in our country the more opportunities for a better future for the majority.
Business environment's are nurtured by smart government. We've seen nothing from the Tory party that gives me confidence there's a plan. The plan appeared to be to get Brexit done and that's it. NI, trade, immigration and lack of workers were all easily and regularly predicted.
I don't and won't listen to excuses about COVID, Ukraine blah blah blah(Farages bumps in the road right there). That's what happens in the world, it keeps turning around you, so suck it up and make your vision work.
Paralysis whilst going backwards seems the preferred government option but in reality it's not an option.

A flawed concept is doomed for failure. Loads of leavers are saying it's not working because it's not the brexit they voted for. And dickhead Davis is claiming it's failing because it's a remainers brexit, FFS. Remind me which remainer negotiated this "fantastic" brexit deal back in 2019.

Tantastic Tice tweeted last week that it's not working because-get this- remainers need to help make brexit a success. Well, why, if it's so fantastic do you need the help of remainers to make it a success? And exactly how do we do this?

I'm not gloating, merely pointing out just some of the contradictions of the leave position. I'm sad that the fantasy project of wealthy billionaires was foisted on everyone to the detriment of everyone. Brexit has already cost us more than the entire budget of the time we were in the EU. I think the time elapsed since the referendum and the impact of covid means that lots of people aren't able to link cause and effect.

And no, the deferment of brexit benefits only appeared when all those unicorns you were promised didn't appear. And you're choosing to ignore the many predictions that are now being proved correct.

No, I'm waiting to see how it finally ends up once the dust has settled. As I've said many times and you keep ignoring. I don't follow politics so I've no idea what has been said of late, I don't trust any of them, and am far to busy so dont keep track of the latest round of nonsense being spouted by whatever one of them is going at it. The country needs to pull together to make things work yes, but with attitudes like your own and similar people who are too busy gloating about what they see as a big mistake then it's not going to work is it?! It's embarrassing,it's like a child stamping their feet because they didn't get their own way. Similar to that little Jimmy cranky **** from north of the border

It's not about following politics.... It's about following facts. Define pulling together.... and how does pulling together alter economic facts and the reality of the situation? Will it resolve the issues at Dover? Will it help those businesses who are going down the pan due to the INCREASE of red tape and costs caused by brexit? Give us the promised 350 million for the NHS?

The shorthand for pulling together is to create the outcome that suits your vision of the future.

I'll tell you what's embarrassing..... not reassessing your view when the evidence that brexit has/will fail is overwhelming.

FFS it's too early to know. Ive said it before many times. It was always going to get worse before it got better. Stop ignoring that. You're hell-bent on it failing. If In a few years time it actually turns out to be a success, will you hold your hands up and say you were wrong? Or stay quiet. We both know the answer ,dont we ?!

The pulling together is stop being so bloody negative about it, pull your socks up, and get on with it.

If I can offer an analogy as to how it appears...

We're like Man utd. Living on past glories, blaming other factors for the cock ups made by the wealthy elite that run the club. Had it good for ages and got increasingly arrogant. Stuck with outdated tactics for too long. Think the world owes us. Can't accept that we're not the 'power' we used to be.
And nobody likes us.

Post brexit, we are now struggling to get back to where we were when part of the EU in terms of business, trade, economy etc. Trouble is, by the time we get back to that level, everyone else will have moved on and we'll still very far behind.

Less of the Man United analogies thank you very much
Thing is all the trumpeting about US trade deals India trade deals blah blah have been seen to be a guess and not materialised. It's shaken the structure of the nations within the UK perhaps accelerated the break up. Johnson went over to Saudi to call in a few favours the other month if you remember. Left with his tail between his legs and no agreement to turn on the oil and gas taps from the once friendly Sheiks. We've managed to alienate so many other countries and blocs that excuses and give it decades too work don't cut it anymore for me. We need a change of direction.

Last time I looked, we were living in a democracy. Which means we have the right to disagree. So, no thanks, I'll be as negative as I want about it.

Always said if I'm wrong I'll say so, because it means things are better. Problem is, brexit will continue to make life worse.

It's brexiters who won't acknowledge that it's a failure.

Because it's too early to call it a failure. You are correct about living in a democracy, the majority voted leave so you have to deal with that, just as those who voted leave would have to if remain would've won. Being so bitter about it won't do you any good in the long run . There are more important things in life than those you can't do anything about

What's really interesting is that you haven't rebutted any of the points I have made with any evidence except to say you believe it will be so.

Fuehrer Farage said if the vote would have been 52/48 the other way, the matter would be far from decided.

You keep repeating I'm bitter. Not so. You're terrified to admit that you've been conned. I get that, but how long will you give it, before you say it's a **** sandwich? 5 years, 10 years?

I'll continue to exercise my democratic right to disagree and when the time comes, support any plan to reinstate a return to the single market even if we don't make a total return to the EU.

I really dont get what you dont understand. It's too early . It will take a few years. Your "evidence" is temporary at this point. What's the saying,"rome wasn't built in a day"?. You are very bitter, it's very obvious in the way you keep whining on. As for timescales, a few years yet. Up until that point I'll carry on just as I am, life hasn't changed for me , I still live comfortably within my means, have plenty of work, buy what I want when I want to and can get the things I want easily enough. Doesn't feel like the big catastrophy you are claiming it to be that's for sure. If anything the sites I'm working at generally have more Brits and less ee workers now, which isn't a bad thing at all

"There will be no downside to Brexit, only a considerable upside" - David Davis, Ex-Brexit Minister

"The day after we vote to leave, we hold all the cards and we can choose the path we want" - Michael Gove, Class A Drug Addict

"Getting out of the EU can be quick and easy – the UK holds most of the cards" - John Redwood

"The free trade agreement that we will have to do with the European Union should be one of the easiest in human history" - Disgraced Ex-Minister Liam Fox

"We have to establish the ground rules. The first crisis or argument is is going to be over the question of sequencing" - David Davis, who then folded on day 1 of negotiations

"Because we will no longer be members of the single market, we will not be required to pay huge sums into the EU budget" - Theresa May - (we currently owe circa EURO 45 billion)

"Within two years, before the negotiation with the EU is likely to be complete, and therefore before anything material has changed, we can negotiate a free trade area massively larger than the EU ... The new trade agreements will come into force at the point of exit, but they will be fully negotiated" - David Davis

Easy!

Ah.... the truth at last. Having a different point of view which unlike yours is based on evidence rather than faith is whining. OK.

My Dad's wife 79, was telling me last month that when she goes out shopping on a Saturday there seems to be less foreigner's about. Therefore Brexit is already a success is her view.

It's neither a success nor a failure yet.
And more money in British pockets being spent in Britain rather than British money going into ee pockets and only a small part being spent in Britain and the rest sent to their homelands is a good thing in my eyes.

You may not know that we just passed a milestone for the first time in decades of having more job vacancies than people on the dole.
You do realize that has implications, for tax take and therefore services, government investment, schools hospitals etc for our country.
It's far from the cut and dried British money in British pockets getting spent in British shops on Chinese and German goods you paint.

Dole dossers and prisoners have no excuse not to work, if they don't simply cut ALL monies or privileges ........no ifs or buts......we don't need EU workers doing non skilled work in the UK......

We even have persecuted Ukrainians to help......maybe Russians too......

Your first sentence is definitely a factor Noj. There's some large profitable companies out there that are offering 16 hours a week jobs. To deliberately keep hours/pay low so benefits can still be paid.

Everyone knows we need immigration, like it or lump it.
The animosity and demonization has to stop it's un British and wrong, the Brexit immigration war is over, stand down.

The idea we can bring in the best and brightest and promote them over people already living here using a point system is contentious. Someone's got to clean the bogs, caravans, train station, airports, pick the spuds and work on farms etc. Who have the government in mind? Your young kids?

Like you say about education, I'd rather people living here fill the more profitable technically/academically demanding jobs and if someone from Botswana wants to get off their arse and come and fill the vacancies and contribute here crack on.

I bet they have you know.

Low paid, rubbish jobs keep the little people under continual pressure, and therefore under control; in short, exactly where the rich elite tax dodging tossers who are destroying the country, want them to be.

Impoverished forever, struggling and malleable for when they need to use propaganda to make their own agendas ever more successful.

Take a quick look at Truss' education reforms...

Reinforcement of the elitist bs that we've spent years trying to get rid of. Keeping the rich in their place and the rest of us in ours.

I hope that's in their own owned big gardens providing self grown King Eddie's for the potato salad mate. Earned with the fruits of their own fair chance legal hard graft mate.

With you all the way brother Noj 🌍

2015 article? 2008 figures? Comparing UK figures to China? (It's unclear as to whether it means Chinese students in the UK or not - if it does, then it's comparing two massively different groups in terms of size and economic background )

Even in that, look at the commentary on percentages in self titled 'top universities' - called highly selective in the article (the Russell group is one of the biggest self serving institutions there is.)

Truss has basically said that the highest academic achievers will get guarantees to apply to oxbridge. Sounds great until you look at the detail of opportunity and biased funding for private schools vs state schools.
Also wants to bring back grammar schools to start the wealth based elitist thinning out process early.

Reinforce the idea that oxbridge is 'the best' - tick
Make it look like it's a level playing field when it's not - tick
Plan ahead to create the next generation of entitled, nepotism for the future of the tories - tick

Spoke to a few people now, no lengthy delays on the ferries or train and it's still the busy holiday period.
So what caused them a couple of weeks ago. Surely it can only be the French being the French.
