Today I planned to spend a nice relaxing day fishing
The reality - got two miles away, car tyre split, wait for recovery, spend all day at garage, get bill for over £300. And I didn't even get to cast out!
So, cheer me up please. Someone else must have war stories of fishing trips gone wrong? What's your worst?

The only blank last year resulted in a rod being dragged in due to the fish literally ripping the bankstick out of the ground and fell into the drink, lost forever. Head torch was on my head, and whilst lunging forward to grab the rod that ended up in the drink too, so had to wake up matey next door to borrow his. After 3 hours I finally got the rod back, and begrudgingly flicked the rod back onto the spot as I didn't want to add a blank into the diary. I proceeded to lose 3 on the trot to hook pulls. I deemed that worse than requiring a hospital visit to get a hook taken out of my pinkie.

As a 12 year old fishing an old Lanc's mill lodge in the summer school holidays watching 3 pissed up blokes straight out of the pub decide to have a swim. 2 of them disappeared completely, the third one was visible in the clear water, his hands above his head just brushing the water. Absolutely horrifying to watch. Still with me 50 years later.. You did ask!

No more blanks since thankfully! Had two target fish then called it a day, too snaggy for my liking.
£300 for a tyre? You driving a BTR in Kiev or something?

Lol. Nah, just a Seat FR. The tyres were £135 each, did both fronts as they were low anyway, and an extra £60 for tracking. You can't get quicker than a Quick Fit fitter, especially when they're taking your dosh!
I've got a full service and mot in two weeks as well. Gonna be an expensive month.

I went to the bait and feed company shop once
Fell in the river when I was 5 and got swept away. My dad had to dive in and rummage about in the murky water to find and revive me.
Got held up for an hour trying to get a tram to the river because somebody had hung themselves over the track.
Did a night on a rock hard lake and had a pick up first night, left the Korda kaptor green cap on the hook
Did a night with 2 of us under a 50” brolly in a torrential storm because we ignored the forecast.
Cut my finger clean open to the bone with a Swiss Army knife I'd been given on my 14th birthday before going fishing. It looked pretty moody after a day of maggot maize and luncheon meat going in it

I remember spinning for pike in the 80s with my old man, it was a steep sided drain, I'd have only been about 6 so he tied a 20 foot length of rope round my waist and his waist. Didn't have to use it luckily.

Had a rod stolen from me as a kid whilst I was fishing which was probably the worst. Lots of times getting hassled by people when fishing as a kid.
When I moved from primarily Barbel fishing to Carp fishing I bought two new rods, both of which broke on the bank in the same place on consecutive sessions. One cost me a decent fish. (Great tackle shop who replaced them both immediately).

I went on a France trip with someone I didn't really know that well.
I won't bore you with the detail but we finished up having a proper altercation resulting in me getting nutted in the face and consequently having a really miserable time.
Moral of the story...don't go on on holiday with a psychopath...unless it's your missus of course

Was going on a quick overnighter. A lake quite well hidden, as I was pushing my barrow a guy fell out the hedge talking gibberish telling me he was from 30 miles away and walked there. Took 2 hours for me to find out he had memory problems and wasn't quite the ticket. I then went to the lake and the next morning the police came running past chasing a guy they wanted to speak with about sheep worrying. All this in 14hours in middle of knowhere in middle January. All I wanted was a quick overnighter 😂 oh and I blanked

A lake I fished when many moons ago had a spate of some bloke walking around at night and trying to, shall we say "warm his hands up" inside peoples sleeping bags.
He never visited me. I felt totally left out.

I've had several.,lots of experiences..
Here's just one..many years ago I had a redblock 940 se volvo estate,although old,it was a lovely comfy car..
I got told by my old friend..RIP ,Tom,about this private pool.it was a lovely lake, but to get to it you had to go through a very boggy dairy farm..or push your barrow for quarter of a mile..
One trip in January I misjudged the bogginess of the lane down to this lake, the rain had really degraded this lane ,as I got half way down I bottomed out my volvo.,I tried all sorts to shift it ,eventually I managed to reverse out, only to then slide down into a ditch..
I went up to the farm ,but they were staunch Methodists at were out at a church do..
I was proper cross with myself anyway not to be defeated I got my kit ,and fished ,resulting in a lovely linear mirror..
About 6pm in the dark ,farmers come home, and agreed to pull me out,...I got pulled out from this ditch but ended up having two new tyres ,a balance and the front bumper put back on ..
An expensive day out ,all.i had to do was barrow it....oh no,I had to drive down..
I got a 4x4 now...!

Had armed police at my bivvy door 1 night screaming at me to come out very slowly and showing hands..it was during the Essex Range Rover murders and I was fishing a certain Essex lake who's owner had a bit of a rep..police wanted to check inside my bivvy to see if I was hiding someone they was looking for...reeled in next morning when police frogman entered the lake..I didn't tell them they was looking in the wrong lake though

Was fishing a local res and I put a mascot (yoga) on to a stump in the swim, this man then a walks up and talks to me about the mascot. He said he had never seen yoda before. Then he would walk in the swim touch yoda and then back off. He did this a few times before he just walked off.
Thinking that was strange a couple of people in medical scrubs walked into my swim and asked if I saw anyone acting strange. I explained what had happened. They said if he returned to phone the police as he had just walked out of a mental institution that was near by.
Luckily he didn't come back but I did see the police turn up and go round the res a few times. Don't know if he was ever caught

January a couple of years ago (good times they were, we did not were aware of what was going to happen within few weeks) I got to the lake in late afternoon to a swim really far from the car park. This is a steep swim and just when I got there I put the sleeping bag sack between the trunk of two trees as I used to do. Maybe that day I done it in the wrong way as, when I was due to unpacking the rods, the sleeping bag rolled over down the bank into the water. Put up a rod quickly and after a few casts managed to retrieve the bag, unzipped the sack and put a hand inside to check if the water was filled in. It wasn't and I continued to set up everything for the night.
As I set up the bivvy the early January dark fell and in the process I snapped one pole and the rear of the bivvy didn't stood up, then I tied the rear poles in few places to the near trees and I did a great job, it stood well in position.
Then when I unpacked the sleeping bag I realized that it wasn't dry like I had thought, it was wet at chest and shoulder high at a level that when I squeezed it the water dripped happily.
I put the bag over the bivvy in a faint attempt to dry it a bit just to make me sleep in a comfortable way. But the January night didn't help at all.
Anyway, thanks to the other sack I have I isolated the wet areas and that night sleeped really well despite the temperature dipped to a freezing point.
And obviously I blanked.

My alternator packed in the other week. I'd driven around 20miles towards the lake when the battery totally went, must have been low anyway as I hadn't driven for a couple of weeks. Had to wait tor 2hours to get towed back to Ipswich.
Cost £150 for tow back to mine, £50 for new battery as I think the old one was cold affected and wasn't holding charge properly, then £260 for the alternator. The garage had the car in over the weekend as the first replacement delivered Saturday was damaged.
On top of £350 for MOT at end of December was not happy.
Had to wait a whole week to fish again

June 1966 I was on my way for my 1st ever 5 day carp fishing trip I had a bond 3 wheeler soft top with the hood down I was within 2 miles of the lake when a kid run out chasing a foot ball in front of me I swerved to avoid killing him but the 3 wheeler just somersaulted it flipped eventually landing upside down throwing me and my mate out I woke up 2 days later 48 stitches in my head my mate got away with a broken cut arm
we never got any of our fishing gear back !! nobody knew what happened to it of course the motor was a total write off and only 3rd party insurance
and I had bought the 2 rods on HP the week before from B James & Son, Northfields Avenue, in Ealing !!

Quite a few unfortunately !!
Most of them on one trip though, fishing at a remote lodge in Zambia for tigerfish.
Day 1, one of our boats got bumped and bitten by a hippo.
Day2 we pulled into the riverbank to bypass some nasty rapids, spoke to 4 native kids that were playing and messing about on the bank, handed over the usual sweets and pencils etc, came back 10 minutes later to collect the 2nd boat to find only 3 youngsters, one had been taken by a crocodile in that short period and never seen again
Day 3 we nearly had somebody washed over the waterfall when they lost their footing, thankfully we managed to grab his ankle and he was saved the 20m drop into a pool of crocs.
Day 4 some of the guys were taking photos of 'just some snake' that had come out from a nearby termite mound for a slither around the camp. Turned out to be an 8ft Black Mamba !!
Day 5 was a peaceful day !!
Despite that it was one of the best trips we've had.
Got called over to a guy who had been injured on Lake Nasser once, asked if we had any plasters on our boat. Poor guy had slipped on one of the mountain tops into a crevass and had gouged his thigh almost to the bone. Just missed Femoral artery so could only clean it out, soak in iodine and steristrip it back together. Met him in the hotel after the trip and he'd had 160 stitches once he got back to civilisation.
On returning from a trip to Panama a couple of years ago I was sat in my office a few days later when my daughter announced that we had a scorpion in the dining room !! Managed to shut the cat away and capture it before disposing of it, I may have had a bit of a bollocking for that one !!! Little sod had crawled into my gear at the lodge and survived going through the wash and had fallen out of my shorts that were drying out in the dining room on an airer.

Hi Dale
In no particular order.....
1: Getting robbed, 2 rods, reels etc and my fox box. 3 of them, just had to sit there and watch them take it.
2: Fishing a far margin. 2 guys came along and had a swim right where my rigs were and then proceeded to have, shall we say "man cuddles"
3: Sitting on my baiting needle (ended in being a hospital job)
4: Being told grandma had passed
Best

Falling in the lake after being dropped off and having to wait all day for my lift back home.
Around 4pm In the month of February I had the lake to myself so I casted down wind to the end of the lake. I got in bivvy and fell straight asleep. I woke up thinking I'd only dozed for a few minutes but I'd slept solidly for 16 hours and there were several anglers that had set up to the right of me and obviously they'd got their lines over mine.

NOOOO mine was way before it was a 1956 like this one to start it you had to jump out open the bonnet and jump in and use the kick starter as it was basically a 197cc motorbike engine bolted to the front wheel (prior to this I had a Messerschmitt k200 but could not get my fishing gear in it )

When I was a kid, a fella down our road had one Gerry. It didn't tick over very well, and always seemed to cut out when he closed the bonnet. He was a big chap, and really not very agile.
I seem to think it was a Villiers engine, and didn't have reverse - could be wrong.

yes your right 3 speed villers 197cc no reverse around 45MPH unless you were going downhill with the wind behind you ! lol
but you could turn the front wheel at 90 deg so it would turn round in its own length the later ones had a bigger engine a twin cylinder
