Trakker issues ! (39 posts / 2,328 views)

Anyone else had issues with Trakker quality control.

I've ordered 3 trakker items in the past month and out of the 3, 2 have had issues.

Levelite bed
Levelite transformer chair
Bed bag

Firstly, the transformer chair had stickers on the frame which had been power coated over. This meant that the labels were proud of the frame which in effect formed part of the powder coat.

Next, bedchair bag arrives today with a missing buckle so it can't be done up.

Thankfully the bed in fine or atleast I haven't noticed anything yet!

Has anyone else had issues with the labels powder coated over on the chairs? I actually took it back to Angling Direct to swap it and the display model was the same ! However I then went to a different AD store after being wrongly informed by the member of staff at the original store that it was 'how they are supposed to be ' to find that their stock was fine and didn't have the same issue.

One to look out for ! Of course it's not the end of the world but the label being proud would of only took something to nick the corner and it would of pulled a good bit of powder coat off.

That's the issue we don't learn

All the faffing you have to do to return as well because they don't have it in stock in a local store.

Prove the defect, wait in for collection, once it's been confirmed as received then only will we send a new one out. I mean I'm in no rush but if I was I may aswell just give up

Carp anglers can be over anal sometimes over tackle quality when after all it will be abused outdoors getting damp and muddy and thrown in out up and down but yet a small imperfection is the end of the world, just making a observation really and not meant as a dig at the case highlighted.

So you'd be quite happy to accept any product you buy damaged? Me personally if I'm paying good money for something I expect it to the quality it should be, what I do with it after that is then up to me.

Being thrown in put up down in the mud is the reason fishing gear needs to be good quality in the first place. Expensive fishing gear should be durable enough to last the abuse.

Trakker gear is not cheap, and the quality should be MUCH better.

Which is fair enough when your paying for poor quality low cost goods. It kind of comes with the territory sometimes.

However as said Trakker is far from inexpensive and if they are going to charge these considerable RRP's then they should back it up with good quality end products.

Mistakes happen. And if you buy anything made in bulk in the far east, then you have to expect that there could be some kind of issue every now and then. Surely how its dealt with is the important thing. Its not like they hide the fact its made in china is it, so you know what youre buying

They could have their bivvies quality checked in the UK before going on sale.Aqua changed the way they did things with their bivvies after too many faults were cropping up

True, but as much as that would be they way we would all like it done, none of us really expect it do we. And some stuff isnt immediately obvious. We know the industry is about max profit, hence why manufacturings all gone out east. As much as its a pain to have to return stuff, if the issue is dealt with promptly, its not the end of the world really is it.

It's a very good reason to support your local tackle shop rather than
chase the dollar.
Easy to check over in the shop and return if it becomes necessary.

The returning if necessary is not the problem, the potential wait for a replacement is.When I first had an issue with a tempest bivvy the shop could not get me a replacement for around 6 weeks.I decided to get something else as I could not wait that long

Harrods were having products made by the prisoners in the Bangkok Hilton back in the 80's Thai and Chinese prisons are the sweatshops for the west, if I'm on half a bowl of rice and heroin everyday I'm not going to worry whether the stickers went on before or after the powder coating,I doubt Trakker or any other tackle company buying from the east have much say over QC.

I suppose you are right about the low paid labour in the far East however in my opinion it's Trakkers duty to check and QC these items when they arrive in the UK if they are going to charge the prices they do, but that's my opinion obviously.

How it is dealt with - is part of the issue.

I had to drive to 2 different stores to get a chair that was 'free from defects'. The guy in Angling Direct in the first store was arguing the fact that it was how it was supposed to be and would do nothing but offer me another defective chair or refund.

Ok, not the end of the world. It's not like I had to get a plane or anything but the fact is what should of been a simple online transaction and delivery turned out to be quite a bit of a faff.

As for using a local tackle store Angling Direct are actually the only one who stock the DPM levelite range, so using a different tackle shop is out the question.

Considering trakker/aqua are owned by the same group,I don't get why they brought in stricter qc for aqua bivvies but not trakker bivvies

I've got the same problem, nearest shop is a 40 mile round trip and that's only a small shop. He can get you most things but don't expect to look at a load of bivvies or bedchairs. I bought a V2 bivvy from him that he ordered in for me and a while later I had a fault with it and then found out it was just out of warranty even though it had only been use half a dozen times because of the COVID restrictions.
I phoned Trakker to see if I could buy the parts as I explained it was just out of warranty, they were as good as gold and told me they would repair it but they would only pick it up from the shop it was sold from which now means two 40 mile round trips but possibly better than trying to send it back to one of the big shops so for larger items I'll always try and buy as local as possible.

Trakker were good with my first v2 bivvy, they allowed me to take it to Julie in Crewe rather than the journey back to the shop.Julie does the repairs for Trakker/Aqua anyway, unfortunately after sorting the heatseal patch on the pegging point it had further issues.Trakker then told me to take it back for a replacement or refund

My Trakker Tempest 100 Aquatexx and social cap arrived from AD and the social cap was damaged (bent pole). AD have been great so far as they have arranged collection which has already happened. Now just keeping my fingers crossed that the replacement is OK.

Been told since from the person in AD where I got the new replacement from that they have experienced it quite often with bed chairs so it might be worth doing!

Trakker is never going to QC there items this end .... can you imagine the workload involved! ... Its a ridiculous and unrealistic concept amd just increase costs further ..... In reality the returms percentage will dictate how they manage their business ....... My guess is the returns are a very small percentage against sales. The eutopia scenario is to manufacturer correctly in the first place

It deffinetly can be done. I'm not suggesting they check every product line but the more expensive items such as beds, chairs, bivvies etc.

Obviously you would expect that returns against sales would dictate whether they do this however my guess is their margins are big enough to soak up any losses made by returns and so they just continue to operate as they do without giving much of a toss about the customer.

Any change in the way they operate to counteract this would involve in increased costs, possibly over and above what they lose in returns and so they choose not to do so.

This is only my view of what could be the situation but I obviously don't work at Trakker so it's just an assumption.

Until these companies get tough with their O.E.M. and insist on strict Q.C before the items leave the factory then things won't change. It would put the price up as it would no doubt slow production. Any costs involved would be passed on to the company and hence on to the customer I.e us.

It does slow down production,I would prefer to wait that bit longer though.I don't mind the wait if the end product is of decent quality to reflect the cost.Aqua are still having bivvies uk qc'd

I bet theyd all start qc ing stuff if we stopped buying it. Whilst people (im as guilty as everyone else) are paying over the odds for stuff that may or may not be built properly, and just taking the chance, why would they stop, and as said below, increase their costs

I bought the brand new 100 recently and my only gripe is the bag. It could be abit more spacious and have two way zips instead to make packing up easier!
