Hi all. Im looking for some advice and information about one of the lakes owned by roche angling, I'm joining in January and looking at doing most of my sessions on large treskilling. Cant seem to find much information.

i live in cornwall now. The lakes are only just up the road from me. Yes looked on website. thought might be someone on here that's fished it.

I'm not a RAC member ,I was very long time ago,
Big T,Embryo water,Clay Country...fully fenced, which is a good thing,
I fish over that way. Coupla chaps on my syndicate go there,have a look at Kens southwest memories..

I paid a years membership in 2019, didn't find much help from the members when asking for information, in fact I was really put off and never fished any of their waters at all or even visited any of them, obviously didn't renew my membership! Not for me sorry!!

Unfortunately that's a similar experience to mine. I found a small clique of locals who are on the lake all the time. Basically handing swims over to their mates. If your an average Joe you have to take what's left over . Which means swims which carp rarely visit because they are not near pad or snag trees and regular food supplies. It's not impossible to catch on such lakes. Just almost impossible. Sad fact of modem carp fishing.

Sorry to hear about your experience Dave,I found it the opposite, I found all the people I spoke with years ago real helpful,some of the friends I made back then I kept in touch with..
I'd be a member now,but I got enough places to visit,. maybe when I retire...
However,I do not blame some people for keeping shtmmm about a venue as ,being open can ruin it for themselves as we have seen down here ,more than a few times..

It always amazes me when i read this sort of stuff! Having been a member of RAC for many years I just don't get it when people mention cliques etc. I really don't understand why anyone would join a club, fail to visit or fish it's lakes and then expect the members to be forthcoming with information when that individual has never made the effort to meet its members, turn up to a work party or tried to socialise and get to know some others before making such erroneous judgments!
The best way to find out about the lakes is to join the club, fish the waters, get to know fellow anglers / club members and take it from there. In my experience, the club is friendly towards those who are also friendly. ‘Do as you would be done by' is what my mum told me...

With you on that mate..must've met you 35 plus years ago,through your kindness I got to fish a lovely place,so we are friendly down here...if I can reciprocate I will do ,one good turn

Countless times I've been helped out ,too many to mention..
And Nick ,my mum used to say When in Rome do as the Romans do,sadly some expect the natives 'us' to give up their treasures easily..

Shame I didn't keep my messages and replies, I have been carp fishing since the early 60's, had my own lake (France) for 11 years so consider I know something about carp fishing and fishery management!! The response to my initial questions e.g. facilities on site was mixed and unhelpful, it was also clear that members were not keen to divulge any useful information about any of the venues I asked about, now found a superb venue at Stafford Moor which ticks all the boxes.

I certainly wasn't questioning your carp fishing credentials - not that they are relevant anyway - I was questioning why anyone would join a club, pay the fees and not even bother to visit the waters & find out about them or the facilities on offer for himself 🤷♂️.

Nicksmith 1 gets it right. Clubs are the life blood of coarse angling for a lot of people including me and long may they prosper. They are not there to cater to session carp anglers with toilets, water points, bivvy swims, drivable access etc, etc. Look at the waters and meet people by fishing them, have a chat, use your loaf and use your ears more than your mouth. The local members WILL check you out. With small clubs the attitude that a local water is primarily for local people is not unreasonable. Carp anglers are not always popular.

With regards to information, why would you expect members to give up their hard earned knowledge to a stranger on the internet who has never stepped foot on the lakes? As other have mentioned, fish the waters, get to know the other anglers - That's when the exchange of information is likely to happen.

Simple questions asked e.g. what facilities are available at the lakes never did find out for sure what was avialable, the website says 1 thing and the members tell me other things. I don't drive anymore and my days of sh.....ting in the bushes are long gone, quite agree that members wouldn't want to share any secrets about fishing e.g. swims, baits rigs etc., I would't ask their help on those things,being oldschool and hopefully would be able or at least try to work those things out myself. Anyway it doesn't matter now, I wasted a few quid, not bitter about it!!
I can remember back in the late 60's early 70's when carp fishing was so secretive, never really understood why, I was fortunate to fish with some of the top guys in the country and we shared our information, why not!! Commercialism then took over and everything is shared at a price and the carp anglers have been sucked in by it, bring back the old days!
People book venues abroad, having paid maybe £250 to £300 for the venue + travel costs and then seek advice on places like the forums about the venues, it happens on here frequently, think I spent less than a £100 to join Roche, it seemed like a good idea at the time!

No problem in doing a work party my friend, I looked after a 19 acre lake without using a work party, maybe difficult to do that now (at the tender age of 70). Anyway time to move on!
