I know there are many of these rechargeable zappers on the web nowadays, but I recall seeing a thread about this one from Wolf a few weeks ago and last week was the first real chance I've had to look at it in use and I thought I'd just give it a bit of a plug as it's not bad at all for around the £20 mark.
About an hour before dark, having had the bivvy door open all day, I popped the zapper in and zipped up the front. Having not done this previously I could usually see all manner of bugs flying about inside the bivvy against the back light of the tablet.
However an hour before dark and left to do its work, a totally clear (flying) bug free bivvy when it came to retreat to the bed chair
Happy days. If you lads haven't got one of these zappers - doesn't have to be the Wolf, IMO it's a good investment.

If you leave the door open that will attract the bugs as they make a beeline for the light.

no nooo it will just attract them been using a variation of this for 20 years still got my first one that runs on 4 large U2 batteries and still works ! gives a real crack when one gets zapped as said if you zip it up an hour before bed it will kill everything inside but you need to have a net over the door all night

Lol er no. Only time to use this is when your bivvy door or mozie mesh is zipped up. What this will do the is zap the ones that hide on the sides of ur bivvy. Ps a candle does the same. I have one and it works well. BUT dont leave door open you will get every flying insect coming in.

Nope, or those of us that don't actually have a door lol. A couple of UCO candle lamps with citronella tealights in them does the job. I can count the number of Mozzie bites I've had since doing that on one hand .

only draw back is the pads last for 4-5 hours each so have to wake up and change at night. But i generally always wake up for a few hours anyway to have a pee and look/listen for shows.

I have one of these static zappers but I found it a case of the mozzies could get me before they got attracted to the light and fried. So I bought a bug bat from Aldi's about £3 a few years ago and once my net is down, I have a quick search for them and fry them and it worked out to be the best and quickest solution to clear them all up.
About a month ago, I saw Aldi's were selling them again for about £4 but Boyes has them in stock for just over £3.

I really like mine people moan it's £20 but it's very compact and rechargeable, a lot of the alternatives are either much bigger or need a lot of batteries I try to travel as light as possible so this is perfect for me (when I need it)

have to say the thermocell is brilliant.
they are about 40 quid and the cartridges work out about £1 a go if you shop around but my god what a difference this thing made in France last week. my mate had one in his swim and i didn't. i will have in future!
it screws on top of your gas bottle (uses v little gas) and away you go

Think it says that a small gas canister lasts around 90 hours.
Leave it on all night, i don't have a door on my tempest so just had it to one side.

the pads last 4 hours !!
so I set a timer on my phone for 4 hours I have 2 of the original handheld units and they are years old now and still brilliant
oh yea and I have a few refill kits for them lol

Ahhh i knew i had seen somone post about the pads in the past....
Where do you get them from Gerry? I seem to remember you mentioning that you picked them up cheap somehow (bulk buy or offers etc)

yes I bought some bankrupt stock they were 3 for a pound but I got a better deal by buying the lot sold about a pallet load made a few bob it helped pay for a 3 week French trip
and kept enough to see me out
but to be honest as good as they are they work out expensive a VERY VERY close second are the Geranium based mozzy coils like this LINKY POO

Just an FYI, been using a thermacell for over 10 yrs for fishing and shooting in the scottish midge seasons, you can modify the gas cylinders by removing the check valves so you can refill them, you can also get pads much, much cheaper than the thermacell ones, I use both the green raid ones and the blue chinese ones, both do a fab job. Makes the thermacell signicantly cheaper to run.

Best thing iv used us Avon skin so soft. Marines swear by it and i can see why. Don't need all these battery gadgets!

Avon Skin so soft is very effective on Scottish midges which is where that story comes from that base up the top of Jockland where the midges are a nightmare at certain times of the year and they found Avon SSS was the best
it USED TO BE effective on mozzies in fact I used it myself for a few years but then they changed it and either removed or reduced the citronella in it apparently
now there are far far better products around incognito Insect Repellent Spray being probably the very best but you have to re apply it after 6 hours

This answers my thoughts on the Avon stuff - i bought some when it was first publicised and it worked a treat but then after a few years it wasn't as effective.
I've also herd that a certain vitamin can have a big impact on it as well if you take regularly. Just cant remember which vitamin and where i herd it

The Avon SSS is still as good as it was before, you have just got to get plenty on and dont be shy with it thats all.
Put loads on week before last in a french forrest and not a single issue with shorts on, thats is until you get all snuggly in your bed and it rubs off, 100lb cat fish at 3 in the morning stuck in pads at over 100 yards for 30mins, then you get bit off the mozzies around your ankles.
Thats where the incognito, coils and thermothingys come in.
For me the Avon stuff is still a good base then add the other bits.

They say Marmite works well for some, Mozzi 's don't like it.
