Just wanted to throw a big thumbs up for the Fenix HM65R 1400 lumens headtorch to my fellow carpaholics.
What a piece of kit. Massively impressed with it. It's almost like switching on the daylight!! Best £80 I've ever spent on quite an important piece of equipment.
Anyone looking for a headtorch could do a lot lot worse 👍

I have two Fenix headtorches and they are superb,really well made and not had a single issue with either of them

No pun intended but I've been in the dark ages with a 15 year old chinese import. The Fenix is in a league of it's own. Like using a football stadium light 🤣🤣🤣

Used a fenix hl50 for years, best headtorch ive ever owned.
personally I think the are gross over kill just like Led Lensers
YES in certain situations you do need a stupid bright lamp I myself had a couple of the highest powered Lensers when fishing large French lakes using a boat at over 200 yards
but in normal fishing situations I just dont get the need for these awful natural night vision destroying lamps

They have different brightness settings. I normally use mine on its lowest setting in the bivvy and its perfect. Its not very often i use it in its brightest setting.

I remember the old Leisure Sport brochures where it said strictly no bright lights, use only a small torch.
It still seems a reasonable rule to follow now.

Yes I know, still far far too bright. I wish more waters would go back to the old rules of banning bright lights. Nothing worse than some tit with a silly headtorch at 2am trying to light up the entire lake

I agree with most of the headlights being used today are far to bright than is needed for most uk venues

I agree but like everything else it's up to the user to show some common sense.You will always get some tit with a headtorch or messing with his alarms on full blast well adjusting them.A lake near me is a walk through thick woodland and it's pitch black,a bright torch is definitely needed

I've always thought a bright light is really useful, I heard somewhere that if anyone comes for your gear in the night it's a good way to disorient them/ruin their night vision temporarily.
Not that it's ever happened to me, all that's happened to me is pushing a barrow round a lake after dark without any light so I don't disturb anyone and then I have people in their bivvy turning theirs on and shining it into my eyes to see who's passing and completely ruining my night vision.
Anyway I just picked up a nitecore headtorch off the back of this thread, I can't be trusted with 1400 lumens and probably plenty others who can't keep their weapons concealed

The lowest setting on my hl50 is very dull, its just enough to tie rigs so not sure which one your using.

Headlight related story. 4.30 am ish this morning someone on the banking 30ft above my swim looking with a bright headlamp to see if the swim was taken. My dog starts growling when she heard him and then when the light hit the ground she went ballistic. She is tethered on a long lead but still enough to make it look like she was free. I bet the bloke shat himself. I know I would have done. The downside to this was after that she decided on a spot of guard duty until it got light and told me about everything that moved or made a sound.
I only use bright lights when rock hopping or on the beach. Rechargeable Energiser is good for me with a cheapie as backup.

Every lake (and river) is full of these numpties now, and unless all you do is stare at the floor then you're disturbing other people whether you think it or not!
I fished a weirpool on the Trent this week where the drop to the river is 6 foot straight down, I didn't need anything other than the Nitecore NU25 and I didn't even use the brightest setting.

I have already told you of one situation where they are needed and have you ever thought that not everyone has brilliant eyesight.I for one now need a brighter light as my vision is not as good after my illness

One of the on/off buttons on my Ridgemonkey HT broke in my bag this week. It still has one more on/off button... But I can't see that one lasting long either. I've got a bit sick of such a bulky head torch on my nut as well.
I was going to get another Energizer one... But ended up going for one of these, only as it goes into a little hard case, so in theory should not get broken in my bag. Ideal. Gets great reviews, 30 hrs runtime. Only £16.
Arrives tomorrow.

Just because it does it does not mean you have to use it in a fishing situation.These torches are clearly made for situations that they are needed or the person does need it due to health issues.If that person using it needs it and it keeps them able to go night fishing then so be it

Tbh short of having to flag down a passing cruise liner if your dinghy gets swept out to sea while fishing the river I really couldn't see any need for this in a fishing situation.
Of course you wouldn't have to use it on full power but you just know muppets will and do, just like the tufty torches laser pens and existing head torches.

I think full power would only get used if one of those bow fishing outfits comes past.
