Has any one you figured out a way to take line off your spools, and save it for another time WHEN you don't want to add it to another spool/reel?
I have some 18lb fox camo I want to take off my Shimano XTB spools and put on some 40lb braid for a week long trip. I can transfer the line on some diawa spare spools I have but then I want to put the Fox line back on those spools and take the braid off for another time. It all starts to get quite difficult.
In the above scenario, without manually winding the braid back onto it's plastic delivery spool which will take me ages I can't think of another way.
Is there something available in the marketplace that doesn't cost the earth like buying a new set of spools or am I goosed?

Get a plastic drinks bottle and take off the lid (I find half-litre water bottles work best). Find a nut and bolt. Make a suitably sized hole in the lid and push the bolt through, with the head inside the lid. Put the nut on and tighten.
Put the bottle on the lid, then put the sticking-out bolt thread into the chuck of a drill. Tape the line to the bottle, then use the drill to wind the line around the bottle.
This can be used for storing line to be re-used, or for quickly stripping old line off spools. The top-less bottles can be stored or binned, and the top with the bolt through can be used time and time again.

Agreed, new line or spare spools
However, when taking line off of spools before, i have used a drill and lump of log (like stove logs), drilled into the wood and then attached line and stripped in seconds

Line twist/coiling could be an issue with taking line on and off especially around a small bottle, if its only short duration and you have outside space you could wrap it around some distance sticks would imagine a lot less twist in it when putting it back on, personally I would bin it and buy new.

I've got two spare spools for my 45 QD's so I am going to wind it on there and I also have a Biomaster third reel stuffed at the back of a wardrobe somewhere so that will take the third spool. It's getting the braid back off the XTB spools then and swapping it back again which is a PIA.
I like the distance stick idea but must be looking at 200 wraps easy which might be doable, but that's just taking the braid off and I can't get it back on to a full spool.
Other than needing to swap over for this one trip it's only been used a couple of times so I'm loathed to bin it.

Stick a bolt and some washers through the old line spool it came on and put that into a drill
Just guide it on.
Open the bail arm on the reel and let it peel off

I've got some spools (that are not reel spools) that I've put Nash Bullet braid on for storage - they have a drill bit connection at one end so you can use this to remove from your actual fishing spools . . .cant remember the brand / where I got them from - will dig them out and have a look . . .very useful and quick in terms of spool stripping / line storage. . .they also help when needing to load fishing spools 'in reverse' etc . . .

Berkley D - spooler I used to have one but the plastic clips went brittle they have altered the design since, carp spirit make them these days same as the old Berkley version.

Those are the kiddies . . .mine are exactly like the Carp Spirit jobbies but I'm sure they were made by ATF or something like that . . .they've got to be 15plus yrs old!

I've got the ACE despooler, pop the top and the line leap frogs all over the show. Good bit of kit but you'd never be able to respool from that device.
Anyway turns out I need to despool 6 spools and respool with 25lb mono (P-line) and 40lb braid. Half way through, old line will be saved for a spot of sea fishing.

Just don't take the top off until it is back on the spool
Only problem doing this in anyway is the line that may be damaged will be back on the spool once wound back on unless you despool twice

. . I am a getting old . . .they are the ACE versions. You can re-spool from them, just don't let the tops pop off. Mine are in reverse so mono backer and braid . . .probably wouldnt re-use mono however braid is ok

How would you respool from the ACE Despooler? It has a spindle out the bottom which atleast on mine is rigid?

I chuck the whole thing in a mini cereal container (tupperware) with water and it weirdly fits (tightish) and simply rotates under a bit of tension . . .do the same with standard line bulk spools
