had all sorts of pods including some expensive ones £500 plus ! jobbys

but bottom line my old original Fox Quattro pod is still a great pod and I never had any stability problems with it ever in any conditions NOW its ally for me every time weight is important when your an old fart

Gerry is right, you don't need to spend a lot on a pod, those Fox Quattro's are good.If you are set on a metal pod I'd have a look at the Defiant MPS Panther if I were you in Titanium, I had Keith's equivalent (Trident) in Stainless for 15 years and those are awesome used as sticks or a pod.

The only pod I'd buy is Solars World Wide, if only it where made
In titanium.

I've used both an aluminium pod and stainless.

As much as Badger was a trash name the goalpost aluminium pod they made was decent, but as aluminium is a soft metal, the threads eventually wore loose on the extension sections. I had to replace aluminium buzz bars with stainless.
It was able to be used as goalpost banksticks with bars, or as a pod.
Basically it was everything I needed.

I bit the bullet and bought a Solar P1 stainless pod, and that can really only be used as a pod, or as the buzzer bars are separate, with stage stands on the central buzz bar threads.
In terms of weight, the stainless does give it stability, and on softer ground, the sticks can be pushed into the ground to increase that.
On harder banks, any pod I would add a cup hook or stick to hold it steady if I needed to have tight lines and locked up.

The P1 is a lovely bit of kit.

Had the Solar worldwide and it had the global extension kit too ! great pod !!

but without question the best Stainless pod I have ever had was this one BUT (at the time ) IT WAS WELL OVER £500 WITH THE 5 ROD CURVED BARS !! dont know what they cost now ?

Aluminium all the way. It's lighter than stainless and provided you get a decent pod and look after it, it'll last years.

I've still got my Fox Quattro pod, which is aluminium, and still going strong. It's looking like it's had better days, but it's solid.

I'd go with titanium, ali or carbon over stainless, in that order. Stainless is just too heavy imo.

Just bought a black solar A1 ground pod, yes they are fairly cheap but seems solid
and is versatile so can be used as my preferred goal post setup.

Got mine for £90 still boxed so can be picked up at a steal, I'll be adding more banksticks to make it more versatile.

The design of the MPS defiant are different to the WW as they capitalise on building a pod rod bank sticks so offed flexibility.

It would be a step in the right direction if the WW could have an alternative method of securing the buzz bars that offered a goal post arrangement rather than the single bank stick thread on the buzz bars.

Defiant MPS Panther for me, has been for a fair few years, offers near total flexibility. My only critique is that if you raise the front sticks instead of the chassis bar you reduce the angle to the rod/line which I've found reduces the space for my Solar Quiverloc Tensioners, not a biggy though, there are ways round it if not being lazy.

I kept my Solar WW as IMO it offers better stability if fishing very high due to the wider footprint (I'd still bungy it down though, so maybe there's no advantage over my Panther as I'd bungy that too), though will I ever need that again...who knows.

Yeah I had to wait a good few weeks. No big issue tho as I'd got a Quattro to use

I have the Solar Globe Trotter pod and i can't see myself changing. I've had it for more than 10 years now and the pod still looks new.

I recently took delivery of a MPS Trident Panther in Titanium, I had Keith make the centre shaft a bit shorter and the front crossshaft 11" and the rear 13". It comes in just under 1kg and it's perfect.

Ive never really understood the stainless is to heavy bit. An extra kilo or two makes no difference when you consider the total weight of everything we take fishing.

same here heavy but so versatile.. with a barrow not an issue i leave it all set up in a trakker pouch with alarms fitted as well just connect the middle bar and done.

Not really. I did a test a few years ago when a similar post was running. I put a old cygnet ali pod i had in my ruck sack with what i normally take fishing, put it on my back to see how heavy it felt then took it out and put my jag 316 pod in with the 4 stainless banksticks it comes with put it back on my back and i couldnt tell any difference what so ever. You might notice a very small difference if its in a carryall your carrying by hand but in a rucksack where the weight is supported by your shoulders i couldnt feel any difference. I even got the missus to put the ruck sack on both times and asked her if she could feel any difference and she said no and looked at me funny as i didnt tell her what i was doing.

You say an extra kilo or two makes no difference when you consider the total weight of everything, but when you save another 5 kilo on a lightweight shelter, 4 on a lightweight bed/bag, another kilo on a lightweight net etc etc..... it does make a difference. It's not a priority for some guys which is obviously fine, but for me lightweight stuff is absolutely key for the type of angling I tend to do nowadays. I reckon if I compare the stuff I take with me now against the stuff I used to take 10 years ago I've save 30 kg + which is a bag and a half of cement!

Im not talking about lightweight bedchairs and bivvys though its soley the difference between an ali pod or taking a stainless pod which is next to nothing. The bivvy and bedchairs dont come into it as you would be taking them regardless of what pod you took.
