I'm now on my second pair of scarpa walking boots and want to look after these new ones.
What would you recommend that I cover them in polish wise to give them a longer life?

Don't wear them seems the best protection
Mine were starting to fail after a year of light use, falling apart after 2
Complete **** for a near £200 pair of boots
Makes me want to throw them at those who steered me away from a like for like replacement for my 10 year old brashers

My first set are 7 years old and still going.
Done me pretty well seeing that I walk the dog in them everyday over the fields.
Only reason I bought a new pair was the old ones ain't as waterproof anymore.

Are they fabric of leather mate?
Had my Mendels around 10 year now, took them to Timpsons a couple of months ago the sole came off one, on inspection the other one was doing the same, Did my last nine mile in the yesterday, soles have gone, time for the bin. Will bear in mind the Scarpa feedback, surprised me that
For fabric i use fabsil
For leather and synthetics have a look at the Scarpa HS12 silicone based polish, very good
Give them a good coat from new, leave them a week and repeat. Do all my leather footwear in this now

Think you will like it mate. Bit like Vaseline in texture and look, goes on like a dream, water just beads off
Needs to be reapplied though like all polish does over time, just so easy to do them with the foam applicator pad. I do one pair and then end up doing everything

There like everything else now and not made to last. Ive had my brashers for about 15 years and there still going strong but i dont wear them all the time. Mine have the leather lining and are made in portugal when they were still made to last.

Really disappointed with them, my brashers were in about the same condition after 10 years but with badly worn soles, the scarpas soles are hardly showing any wear but stitching failing in numerous places

Similar to me with the Brashers, now owned by Berghaus, not sure if the quality is the same though?

You also have to factor in we are all probably a bit heavier than 10-15 years ago lol so have to factor that in as well.
And also businesses want repeat customers so no point making them too well !

My work boots get much more use, and have to deal with corrosive and abrasive substances, cost a third of the scarpas and will outlive them despite being older.
Might aswell buy a fresh pair of karrimor boots every winter

Wore brashers for 30 years plus , had 2 pairs since berghaus started making them first pair lasted 6 months the replacement pair did a little better 8 months, used to get 6 or 7 years out of them , my scarpas i have now had 2 years and starting to wear, however i bought a pair of altberg 6 years ago and these have been used and abused over the last 2 years since moving to scotland and they are still in fantastic condition,as said made in england which is a plus.

i have been buying the army surplus ones off ebay.
got a couple of pairs one for spring/summer with thin socks and a bigger pair for winter so i can wear some artic socks.
covered them in boot polish and they keep the water out and are comfy and they breath.
if the do get wet they dry out.
for REALLY subzero temps need to been the feet moving but then they are not really a winter boot

Yeah i think they use the defender if my memory serves me right ? Better getting a fitting if you can as i needed a size bigger than i normally wear . They are £100 brand new on ebay , a bargain. I bought another pair for on motorbike.

British army Iturri cold weather boots have lasted me years. Waterproof Goretex and insulated, almost new when I bought them.

Got mine from the factory. The fitting suggested an 8 but I needed a 9. Luckily they had stock of the boot I wanted so I could try on rather than order a pair based on the measurements.

Hi mate. I just did that to give it time to soak right in
Your choice, not really, I put loads on!
How did you find it? I was using nikwax prior to this, used to warm it on the radiator first, found the Scarpa stuff a doodle to apply, the nikwax was like tar if it wasn't warm!

Very easy to apply and came up a treat.

Anytime, that's what we are on here for. Hope you are happy with it. Like I said its silicone based with leather treatments so the water beads off brilliant. Just have to give them a them clean and polish them up now and again
