Hi guys off for a week next week and been planning my canal campaign for months as my new holidays kick in next month,so I'm on there for a week and was going to start pre baiting from today as I've been busy recently with work.
Then found out Sunday from both my brothers there were 2 bivvies on there one day and another there on Saturday morning both in the area I was planning to bait up,now I'm having to rethink and look at a different stretch and start baiting up tomorrow morning.
My question is has anyone had any issues with planning a campaign then to find it go basically tits up and you've had to have a rethink and has it worked or not.

Good holding areas will always be busy, you probably choose that area for a reason and so did others... Choose another spot or just go fishing without prebaiting it obviously holds fish.

Agreed, rather than committing to another area (with baiting etc) I'd go the other way and just travel as light as I can each day and fish new areas that you may not have considered previously
Trickle a smaller amount of bait in a few areas leading up to your time off perhaps

I'm doing a week up there so making most of it so I've got the pre baiting sorted out areas busy as it's got 3 30 pounders in a 14 mile stretch between locks,in a way I'm glad as it encourages me to try else where as I'd done ok in that area before had them up to 32lb so time for a change i think.

Be flexible, with a week ahead of you bait 2 or 3 spots but keep looking and go with what u see

Sure, happens all the time.
Should they be gone, they have already done the pre-baiting for you (in the area so to speak). Sounds lame, but that is how it is nowadays. And in one week you can pin it down more to your chosen spots.
My way around it is to not expect to be able to establish anything on popular stretches, have plenty of spots as back up, or go where no bivvy will ever be seen. But then you get boats:/

As for pre-baiting. One SINGLE aim for me and my fishing and that is getting the fish used to eating MY bait
I often start with loads of other baits to fill it in and get the attraction and attention but once on it, it is predominately boilie for me. Once they know what its all about they will happily pick it up wherever they find it. Job done
On this basis, you just need to concentrate on your own fishing, make sure the bait is going in regular. I would bait potential holding spots, overhanging trees and bushes and any other feature you can find over the distance or areas that you want to fish. Its endless, bait the far bank for 100m for example, get them used to finding the bait, everywhere and eating it. you are aiming to get the fish eating your bait. When you go to fish try your best to find them or anticipate where they will turn up.
And don't forget to get up earlier and fish their / your spots

That's what I was going to try and do flood the area with bait then narrow it down as well,as for other side there's no trees etc as it's a foot path either side

Thanks bud I've got loads of bait to go in can do it every day apart from Sunday as I'll be at my girlfriends all being well,but if she's at her mind I'll start a day early and do Sunday to following Saturday

Twice a week is enough, good to keep an eye out what's happening though, find the fish and mark those spots
Put it out when nobody is about too if you can

Thanks mate luckily canal is local to me but I still got to walk to the area which is a pain but should be worth it.

Keep filling it in with bait, they will come. Bait up in darkness and keep an eye on the spots
