Just a heads up DONT USE HERMES COURIERS
I brought 3 Daiwa Castizms from a seller on another site paid for them via PayPal goods and services when the reels where delivered they had been replaced with a box of mud with the original postage label attached never again will i buy anything that is going to be sent using Hermes

How do you know the sender didn't send like that? I know a few have but I've never had a problem with Hermes

Initially the thought crossed my mind but the seller photographed the package with tracking details and his address on it we have also spoken extensively about the issue he has even given me his phone number the seller seems 100% genuine.

Yeah I've also had issues with Hermes. Ordered a pump for a fish tank and received a battered old Henry hoover! Again original label on the box

ordered 2 books both came together in separate parcels , the doughnut delivering them never nocked at the door ,shoved the first one through letter box and damaged it, I opened the door took the other of him , he went I opened them and first one was damaged due to letter box , Hermes.

Sorry to hear that, but it could happen with any courier... Hermes, DHL, Parcelforce, Tuffnells, etc... they're all as bad as one another. I've had parcels marked fragile (rods) literally chucked over my fence, numerous failed deliveries when they don't even knock on the door or ring the bell, stuff arrived damaged, go missing, delivered soaked through with water damage, the lot. Even had some documents in packaging that said 'do not bend' folded in half and jammed into the letterbox, that was DPD. Contents, ruined. Most often, you don't have a choice of courier when ordering on line, so that's life I am afraid.

Yep Hermes are shocking the worst of the lot with me yodel ain't far behind them every delivery I've had delivered by Hermes has just been left on the door step no knock at the door even when someone is in they take a picture of it on my door step and I only now it's their as I get an email with picture from the seller of eBay I bought it from . Luckily I've been home every time to get the parcel straight away

I had 2 new Harrison's torrix custom rods last June and they got sent to different address luckily my number was on label and the guy phoned me to pick them up,nearly £500 for the 2 and when I phoned fed ex up they wouldn't do anything about it.
Also I bought my stepdaughter a dress for her 16th birthday party and that got put in rubbish bin with a note saying in bin? How can they get away with that? And yep from hermes.
They are extremely difficult to get hold of to complain and apparently any parcels that don't get delivered I believe they are sold at auctions.

My Hermes driver is brilliant a really nice bloke and will actually go out his way for you if your not in, I couldn't fault him in my area the ones to watch are yodel they are awful for parcels going missing
funny ben using hermes for years both sending and receiving stuff and never had any problems at all
THAT JUST PROVES it depends where you live as the drivers vary in different parts of the country

Having worked for Hermes myself for 4 years I'll tell you the way it works.
When you start with them you have a very very basic training experience and are told to crack on with it.
People are assigned their own round so in an established area you will see the same Courier on a daily basis.
Unfortunately as is with most walks of life people decide what is acceptable behavior and what is not...
So if you get a courier like myself with very high standards then you will be fine...however if you get someone who has no standards at all...Mmm good luck with that.
Bear in mind the only stipulations you need to get a job with Hermes is a pulse and a vehicle plus the fact Hermes treat workers appallingly it's not difficult to see why customers run into difficulties is it.

On the other hand, I had a boat boat stolen by someone at UPS when it was on it's way from the shop to me. They managed to find the guy listing it for sale a few months later, and a look at a related Facebook page would suggest it wasn't just a bait boat that had been stolen.

Def agree - Hermes magically 'lost' a lot of our kids pressies a couple of years back . . .transpires we weren't the only ones. Drivers are contractors with a car and most don't give a sh*te . . .Would only use UPS if sending anything these days . . .

I moved to a new area. We lived in the previous area for 14 years used hermes loads, not a singles issue!
New area....5 months in and 4 parcels including 3 at christmas have gone walkies

My Hermes man Paul is brilliant. He will take stuff to my mates round the corner if it won't fit in my trailer. A couple of months back he took some holiday (because they get that now) and stuff was getting chucked everywhere no note nothing.
I guess it is really dependent on the area the best around my way is DHL or UPS - FED-EX or DPD by far the worst.
Hermes is only 3 units away from my unit so the lass covering our area only has to walk them down to us 100 yards but seeing what goes on daily you have to credit them slightly cramming 150 parcels of all sizes into a Peugeot 306 is an art form and getting home for the school run, cooking tea, servicing the old man and ready to go again in the morning is a good woman as it mainly is women at our depot.

Used them all ,they are as good or as bad as each other ! I have had rods sent out with ups,tuffnels,fed ex,etc all have either been superb or on the occasion 3 aviators,spod and landing net dissapeared rubbish, sent 3 sets of rods out one time all 3 arrived with people next day , all 3 got each others rods try sorting that one out ! Yodel driver actually threw a rod tube marked fragile over someones fence just as customer was driving his sit on lawn mower straight over it.I didnt even send it with yodel ? Its a lottery you take your chance.

UPDATE: Yet another sorry take about Hermes booked through Parcel to Go.

They were insured and by coincidence this is the first time I have ever insured a parcel when sending via P2G. Make me wonder if the drivers think, aye-aye, this must contain some decent stuff, as the sender has bothered to insure it.

Few years ago I had an order coming to my work by Hermes. I got a "missed-you" card through the door so called the number and it was some guy that wasn't even a courier. I was the 5th person to call him that day, he had no idea what was going on. The actual driver was obvs on a wind up. The supplier sent my order out again so no bother but a ridiculous situation all the same.
My local Hermes delivery driver is great....mind it took a couple of years to train him.
The various sorting offices are a different matter.
I purchased some extra heavy duty banksticks from a guy and Hermes failed to deliver them quoting they were damaged in transit. Despite being insured the seller did not get reimbursed and the parcel was sent to be supposedly destroyed as is their policy.
When the replacements arrived I tested them.....Garth would have difficulty bending them.
They were either hoisted or put at an angle to a kerb and run over with a forklift .

I have had nothing but exceptional service both in sending and receiving parcels
SO THE TRUTH is a company is only as good as its workers and if you live in an area with dodgy drivers your gonna get bad service and slag em off sadly
but if like me and thousands of others you get fantastic service your hardly likely to make a post saying so

Did the sender pay for extra insurance, I bet he didn't....debatable if it would have been worth it anyway....he might come across as a nice bloke but sounds to menlike you've been scammed...mate of mine once had 3 baked potatoes delivered in Delkim boxes...
You have to ask yourself who in their sane mind would send £500 plus worth of reels with Hermes who are hit and miss at best. ANYTHING I send valued over £100 goes Royal Mail Special Delivery....as close to guaranteed as you can get and insured up to £500, (more if you pay fir it) its expensive but gives me AND the buyer peace of mind.

Sadly, this is one trade which has declined massively in the last ten years due to franchises being let out for cheap labour (£200 rounds with drivers being paid £60-80 a day), plus its a popular role for EE's. Anyone can rent a van, get insured online within a day then be in the depot a few days after that. No training, just claim you have experience. Job done.
Back in the day people use to lock down upon the likes of Yodel (home delivery network then) because it was basically cram the van and just deliver them in any way possible. Yodel drivers would do 200 parcels a day for about 90p a parcel, whereas DPD would send you out with 100 parcels at £2+ a parcel, and you HAD to get a signature or leave with a neighbour and pop a card through the door.
Nowadays, the Yodel model seems to be the most popular. I have done abit of Amazon on the side as it's easy money for a two hours work. Looking at some of the people and the vehicles being used, I wouldn't trust them to deliver take away menus let alone gifts worth a days wages.

I have a friend who runs his own security system business. And live's in a house with a gated front.
One day he had a Hermes message to say he had received his parcel. But no one in house had received it, he found it smashed up behind his gate against the wall - it had been chucked over the fence and when he entered it was pushed to the side and crushed. He took issue with Hermes and got zero back from them, they were just totally not interested.
Fast forward a few week and same issue again - however this time he reviewed the footage from his newly installed CCTV camera that was hidden away. He saw, in 4k footage, a driver just walk up and throw the parcel from over a meter away and walk off - without even attempting to ring the bell on the gate (ironically a intercom with camera and video system). Hermes again didn't want to get involved and told him they would investigate... there tune soon changed when he the supplier invoiced them to cover the cost of goods and sent the video as proof..... the two parcels were camera's that cost £5k each
