Lodge disease..= a term used to signify lovely places ruined by eco tourism,lodges on stilts in the lake,out door hot tubs..,
There are quite a few I know of..main thing is the wildlife always suffers,but they get used a 'green light,' the planning and creating local jobs,is a another.

We all know its about money and nothing to do with being green..

A few examples

Renttallick lakes,now a crappy spa..
Shilliamill,angling banned
Clawford. vinyard
And now a planning application has gone in on a local history quarry stocked by Peter Mohan ,in the 70s..my mate lives next to it..


Nothing is sacred or safe,....

Lodge disease,..eco tourism,rewilding..all about money,control,and the green lie.

My go to local winter runs water is the same the owner has built lodges down one side and ruined it

Our local day ticket venue has done that. Was perfect to take my son to and teach him how to fish, all the mixed lakes have been stocked with carp and lodges built on them and children banned. All about the money as they charge over £100 a night for these and a minimum of 3 nights. Some of the lodges are also no fishing allowed despite being right on the lake

I agree with all of this - but you can't blame people for trying to make the most of their assets, and money talks.

If we want to really protect our waters for the long term we need to buy them ourselves - like true syndicates used to in the past.

We need to be purchasing and developing more lakes and protecting them from environmental activists as well..



And fencing them from otters..!!

Totally agree seems quite a few cant go into the outdoors without having 'plug-in' stations. They then need a community lodge and before you know it a new village/ town has to be built to house the workers working in the ' country escape '

When are they going to realise how tiny this island is and stop concreting over it !

Who are we? Who will be able to fish these waters? and at what cost? Give me public and club waters everytime.
Many of the problems in carping stem from the ongoing process of private ownership of waters for profit.
Fortunately I'm 66 and probably can find and fish enough traditional places to see me out.

Yes,. .its really disheartening..

Where I live we HAD,a community..not any more im a stranger in my own area now,used to know lots of people..

At work ,right now 12 houses being built,750k each,all bought off plan ,not one of the reasons I started this topic is I can see,its all about ruining the natural ecosystem,under the guise,or lie of green sustainability, its a lie..

I'm passionate about angling the countryside,and keeping things as natural as can be..

When I fish I don't want to be online,I don't don't want a spa,hot tub,nor do I wish to be in a manicured environment, can do that anytime for free..

Where does it stop?...

Good point...

Especially in the light of my ever dimishing list of previously quiet special places,which were easy access...not any more..

Tbh,I don't give a monkey about carp size,I'm about the journey,not the finish line ,knowing the people I do I get asked lots come on my syndicate, we have lights in the sheds now and Internet,and swim names on boards..

Again I agree - I've been a member of a fantastic club for the last 15 years, that is well supported and one of the biggest in the country with over 2500 members. Not all clubs are as well supported these days, with the growth in day tickets like linear and bluebell with accessible 40's and 50's many smaller clubs are in a decline as anglers chase these accessible big fish.

Also sadly, many clubs are losing waters too. Historically clubs would be able to lease lakes, or the fishing rights for relatively small amounts of money but landowners are cottoning on to the fact that they can make more money by either selling up or leasing to others for much more money than the typical club can afford.

Give me a quiet water where i'm fishing for 20's and the odd 30 over a rammed day ticket lake with 10 40's any day of the week

Great post. Passion.

Just encountered a mild mutation of the lodge disease while looking for carp on a bridge. The lamppost on the bridge had quite a prominent sign attached to it stating it had amber lighting to save the bats. As always trying to solve a problem that shouldn't be created in the first place, etc.

Sorry, don't understand your point.

One place I used to go got ruined by a lodge put right on the specimen lake, everyone loves the thing thinks it's brilliant but for me it's absolutely ruined it, no matter what swim you are on if the people staying In the lodge decide to have the lights on or anything going on it lights up the whole lake, even been fitted with spot lights outside to help when playing a fish at night, unfortunately I won't fish it anymore since this was built

More a free association. Like the eco tourism in the op that has got nothing to do with being green, changing bulbs to save the bats is just virtue signaling to care for nature, but if they really care for nature that much you shouldn't develop each and every piece of remaining "wildish" nature. That is where the bulbs and the lodges meet

But back to the lodges, no intention to kill the thread by going too much off topic:P

A bit like, yeah we shall build 200 houses,providing local jobs,and oh ,they will build a green space for the 'community ' as well..and houses are affordable..

Thats how they get planning,using eco babble,and the big 'green'carrot,called affordable..

Here in Cornwall ,affordable means selling to people who have no connection to a community, hence why Cornwall is dying and being raped of its beauty in front of peoples eyes..

I'm not even half serious,everywhere you look,fields copses..trees being ripped up,oh it really,really upsets me..
I guess its the same everywhere now..sadly...

You got it bud, tbh it is a bit to busy for me now anyway but the lodge really done it for me in the end. Prefer going further a field now, my syndicate or just upto Milemead now, it was a nice place aswell pity they built it tbh, not for me no more

Our local club took on a 'hole in the ground' 40 years back, peppercorn rent from a large cement company, planted trees, reeds, shrubs, stock now worth £!!!! One of the company managers said at the time....'no ones interested now, but when you've spent years working on it, and it's matured, it will be a different story' .
How right he was, the local authority have taken control and will soon be overun by everyman and all the local dealers.

TBH Stafford has been like that for what, 15+ years? - with Andy's past it was always going to end up as a holiday venue, and TBH the new owners done a decent job and the old lodges used to light up the lake anyway!
I hadn't been there for about 10 years, but fished lodge lake last night as it was about my only option for a quicky.. Much better water than Beatties as you have your own water. And no lodges lol.

Got to remember that these places are businesses - at least its now otter fenced and secure. Not really my cup of tea, but if needs must.......

Yeah I'll agree lodge is a much better lake, jo and Paul have done a cracking job there but it's just not for me anymore. I'm going there next weekend for a friends bday (his choice) some people enjoy it but for me I'd rather fish elsewhere more now
