As time as gone on my delks are pretty much on their last legs, so in a couple of weeks I'm gonna buy some new alarms, was leaning towards Nevilles, are they worth the money? And are they likely to last me 10-15 years?

Very little to go wrong as very basic - but go beep when line moves. What more do you want?
Also dead cheap to repair if you do break them

Reliability I suppose, there are other very basic models out there that are far cheaper, but I dont mind paying for Nevs if they will last

I've got some nevs that I've had for 20 years and they've never missed a beat week in week out, it seems they're biggest weakness is cracking of the bases from overtightening, other than that they are very very reliable.

Probably like most on here have had numerous alarms over the years and now returned to using delkims.
Had a set of Neville's previous to these and in fairness they did not let me down, nor did the cases crack as a lot do but for me I just think delkims with the additional features/settings etc are the better bet long term.

Sold delks for Nev's now I'm on the verge of selling my Nev's to get the fox RX,Nev's look great if it's windy bobbins need to be on the floor else it's false bleeps all day,it's your call I think everyone needs to own a set of Nev's at some point but for me the fox RX+ seems the best alarm/receiver on the market

Had my Nevs for years now and they have never missed a beat. Wld not hesitate in getting another set if ever needed.

Lots of nevs have cracked bases, Is there a reason why people don't put a nut on thread first and leave a gap between the nut and the case then tighten the buzzer bar against the nut?
I'm the least practical person ever so there may be a reason this is a terrible idea!

I've had them for many years,All I do is replace the o ring for leather washers and swap over the wheels for 2 mags.

I think a lot if it is the thread is too short so if you have hockey sticks underneath there isn't much thread left to align on sticks especially with a locking nut too. That said reel king now do a longer thread which is a much better length

Very different to Delks with regards to functionality, sensitivity etc but built to last.
You can't really compare the two to be honest.

I have always used o-rings so I can square it all up without over tightening. Cheap as chips on ebay and for all the tackle tarts you can get any colour you like. I use black, still ultracult all these years later

Yes m8. Will last you years. Very good on battery life. Simple and work well. You will end up with cracked cases all mine x6 had them. Makes no difference whatsoever. I now have fox mxr and love them.

Never cracked a case in 10 years I'm just careful how I screw them in they don't need to be over tightened

Doh, they're both bite alarms, so of course they're comparable... the latest Delkims are unsurpassed, can't see why you'd buy anything else, unless you just want to be different - nowt wrong with that of course

Ive had delks for years, dabbled in nevs and the fox RX+s. But returned to dwlkims when the new ones released.
The nevs did a job, but i really didnt think they were a patch on delkim or fox alarms. If you take the retro/carpy (or however people justify their use of them) element out of it. They are no better than anything else on the market. They do a job, in an ok way. But, the delkim and fox offerings are so much better. Both of them are very very good. I sold the rx+s to get the delks. The only reason being, that that is what i prefer. Others prefer the foxes.
If your looking because you have an itch to scratch, weve all been there, then go for it. But youll no doubt want delkims again in no time at all.

I was toying with the idea of a set of nevs a couple of years ago, I've had delkims for years and years. One night fishing next to my mate and his nevs put me off for ever. Bleep bleep bleep all sodding night, silence from the delkims with the sensitivity turned down. Choppy water, windy conditions. Nightmare.

That's nothing to do with the Nev's or any Alarm for that matter, that's useless Indicators either swinging about in the wind or so light weight they are allowing the line between the Lead/Rig and the Alarm to move about in an uncontrolled fashion.

Yeah I get that, but from memory the conditions weren't like that when we turned in for the evening. I wouldn't want to be getting up and having to change indicators or roller wheels etc in the middle of the night, when on a delk it's a simple move of the sensitivity dial.

I had a swan rip through my swim last season a swim that never gets fishing so it wasn't used to anglers being in there and the thing pulled everything over in the drink.
All three Nevs still glowing underwater . Pulled um out and they were still all good.
Ultra reliable.

Sensitivity was low.I've heard countless stories of them letting water in also but tbf the internet is also full of stories of them not being fully water proof but each to their own

I've never had a false bleep caused by wind at any range on any water in 18 years, unless it's been so bad a storm the Rods are being picked up out of the V in the Alarms and thrown about or bent sideways.
I only use 100% windproof Indicators, any “Bleeps” are either line bites or the rig being moved, and in that time all I've used for many years is Roller Alarms, as the Delkims I had prior were not reliable enougth for outdoor use.

Sold my delks to get Nevs, then sold the Nevs to go back to Delkims. Had the odd session with Nevs where weed was on the line by the rod tip and then when it got choppy they spent all night beeping. Plus on several occasions user error after a bream filled night, i'd look only to see i had put the line down the side of the roller wheel, not over it. They look good, but give me delkims any day.

I had optonics when I first started I'm sure the Nevs would do the job.
I had a set of Mk 3 Nevs. Issues I had, you can't always see the LED because it's below the rod, they all sound the same, so if you can't see which one is going off you have to try to work out which rod is going, and the little delay between the alarm and the receiver is really annoying.
The new delks by comparison are much better.

Depends what you want. Had mine for 8 years and never missed a beat. They look good and beep when they need to. Can adjust sensitivity and volume (not massive range but it stips annoying wind beeps) and they have performed faultlessly. Certainly alarms that have a lot more features but the nevs do what i need them to do.
