I recently bought two Okuma Custom Black Reel Cb-60 3+1bb Reels for my 10ft rods.

I bought one of them last year for £45. Tbh everywhere is selling them for £48-55 so you probably got them when stock was good

Your find it's not just total fishing tackle that have put the prices it sadly tackle manufacturers are putting the prices up so the tackle shops are just having to do the same

The main issue is shipping costs, I read in the paper today that shipping costs have gone from £1200 per container to £7000 - £8000 per container, so the public will end up picking up the additional costs through increased pricing.

That's some increase
Seen as most of the crap comes from China and then sold on, agree, extra carp tax!!!

Yeah, my local tackle shop got a message from Nash the other day saying their prices were being raised 6% or 7% (can't remember which) across the board. I'm sure every other company is going to have to do similar.
The problem may be, if the container issue gets sorted along with issues, I wonder how long it will take for prices to come back down? Or will they?

Shipping costs may come down but price of the tackle won't. Companies are more than happy and quick enough to pass on any extra costs incurred but not so fussed about passing on any savings

I don't know the exact reason why, but i work in construction and steel prices have risen 30% from the start of the year..... and i suspect this will rise again in Q3 as there is now a serious shortage of steel

Do we need to buy as much tackle as we do? Fair enough if it's essentials but otherwise as long as we keep on buying they will keep on passing on the increases to us rather than absorb some of it themselves.

It's demand around the world for goods out of Asia more due to covid than brexit. They just cant get enough empty containers into the ports there to cope with demand, they can then charge a premium for the containers they do have and the highest bidder gets it.Fitness equipment, tvs, computers are just a few items that have been a struggle to get hold of recently and it could still get worse

It's got quite a bit...
The EU had a negotiated import costs. Now we are out of it we don't, I think the they need us more than we need them argument was a bit of “porky”
Until future deals are done we will see hikes in just about every thing we bring in.
That's fact unfortunately but hey let's be pleased for extra money for the NHS that they voted for

In a recent Korda podcast, Damien Clarke explains exactly why container prices have increased and by how much.
It's to do with there being less ships operating and the ones that are, are focusing on the more profitable routes to the americas.
Due to america being closer to China than Europe, they can go to America and back twice, in the same time as it takes them to go to the uk once. Hence the ones that are coming to the uk are charging neatly 10 times what they were charging pre COVID.

Shipping prices have gone mad. Partly due to a lack of shipping containers and prices are always mad around Chinese New year. I was quoted 6,000 November last year for a 40ft open top container from shanghai to the UK. Come February the price had leapt to 28,000.
My shipping agent believes that prices will remain high for a good few months.

Reason for the steel price increase is that China opened up factory's before everyone else and subsequently they started buying up all available steel. Add that to the fact that a large amount of mills are working on skeleton staff, production levels are much lower than normal.

From my understanding that was due to the new Chinese owners wanting to improve efficiency. I could be wrong but I think most of those made redundant were office based not actually involved with the production side.
Also worth noting that most countries have a reducing steel industry due to competition from China and India.

This is off topic but I think we have every right to whinge. So far from my point of view there hasn't been any benefit and as someone who works within the EU, it's shafted me and a huge range of businesses.
There was a range of promises given that just haven't and won't be delivered. The 300 odd million a week for the nhs that hasn't materialised comes to mind. Issues for UK companies exporting items to the EU is another.

Really, really simplistic view you've got going there.
Not that the Conservatives are doing anything about it - could be wrong - the ever increasing privatisation of the NHS, PPP contracts that have to be payed (Labour started PPP) too lopsided highly payed middle management, with only a finite amount of money available, what do?

Oh, right. So bait up during the day when I'm at work and also let anyone know where I'm baiting up? Kys, that's a plan.
And just so you know, the real reason to bait up at night is because the place is crawling with tufted ducks, which if baiting during the day would be pointless as they'd just eat all that I put in. At nigh gives some Chance of the fish eating some.
As long as they keep sending replacements, I'll keep blowing them up. It's not like it's costing me anything👌

Hardly a Galaxy brain, an engineering degree doesn't count for much these days. But I'm certainly bright enough to know a tit when I see one.
Anyway back on point; I doubt prices are coming down on any thing coming from abroad anytime soon. Give it a few months and shipping costs may drop a little, but it won't be passed on to consumers. Companies at trying to recoup losses from the pandemic.

Careful what you wish for fella.... I heard on the news that our exports to the EU had fallen by 40% in the months since Brexit. British companies are going to have to find that lost revenue from somewhere so putting up domestic prices is an obvious solution for them.
Although if it's only a 20% increase you are going for then maybe that's the bonus eh?
I think people might well be surprised at the amount of Chinese (or any other foreign country) crap that is part and parcel of your 'made in Britain' items across the board. From small but essential component parts right through to the machinery that is used in manufacturing processes. Obviously not just talking fishing kit here.
My dinner tonight was made in Britain. ........ Using ingredients from India, cooked in pans from France on a hob made in Germany....
