Anybody use the Steve Neville remote alarm heads and reciever ?
Looking at bying a set. Way 2 many guys have either a Delkim or a R3. Don't like to follow the trend.
Any reviews on weaknesses and strrengts of these Nevs welcome.

Firstly I wouldn't give a toss what the rest are using, I would use what works for me!
The Nevs are a simple as it gets, Roller wheel and a couple of sensitivity options.....range on the receiver is good, battery life good. Not much more to say!
Depends what style of fishing you do and what you want out of an alarm, any roller wheel head will do what a Nev can but some can do a lot more, (Fox RX for example, even the R3 you mention) with more adjustable sensitivity, drop back differentation, etc......
Personally i do a lot of Zig fishing, particularly in the colder months and find the sensitivity of a Delkim second to none same for distance work............although I do prefer a roller wheel alarm for slack-line and margin/close in work....

I have reverted to SN remotes after problems with Delkims. I am happy with the change. If the line moves I want to know. Simple. No interference from Ridgemonkey power bank too. Not much can go wrong with SN's. Remote version can be muted and has 2 sensitivity settings. Stuck 3 pva nuggets in receiver to secure the battery. Simple and effective IMO.

I'm a bit of an alarm hoarder. I have a set of TXi pluses and a set of Fox NTXR's, but I've been looking for a set of Neville's which could be customised to colour match my existing setup.
In truth, I've always wanted a set of Neville's alarms so it's not just the pimping aspect to my setup.
It's early days with these, but my initial observations are that they are simple to use, there doesn't appear to be many access points for water ingress which leads me to think they will be reliable in bad weather. The Nevs are roller wheel so I'm not sure if these are liable to freeze up, but I haven't heard anything previously about this happening.
The volume is adjustable on the alarms, and the receiver allegedly has a long range, although I can't see why most would need that, I'm usually a foot or two away from my rods at most. Nevs are prone to freezing more than others due to the roller wheel being exposed......splodge of vaseline usually helps.
Another point to consider for the OP..............if you arrive at a swim and are forced to fish with your tips really high due to marginal weed or snags the Nevs are difficult to use this way due to the speaker cone, and location of the wheel, therefore i would recommend something like the Jag high tippers if you regularly fish this way...

Like simple alarms. I used to fish with TLBs until it got feet on my last overnighter.
I just like the Nevs because it's like my TLBs no one uses them and they last my TLBs been fishing for years
It's what I want out of the Nevs... switch on and fish.
Thanks for the review champ I usually fish in extream heat and thunder showers it's our weather here in SA. I'm moving to San Francisco area soon don't think I'm be fishing in the snow any time soon.

They do exactly what you want Vince. I had white latch light LED's put in mine just to light up the area around the bobbin so I could see what's going on. I also have 2,3,4 mag rollers for different situations and the heads are permanently on silent and it's been years since I've had to change the battery in any of the heads.

Great alarms, but they crack all over the place, if the cases were modified with threaded inserts for the back plate screws and a better way of attaching the main thread other than a tiny bolt which places all the stress in one area, they would be the bees knees... If JAG made a case for them then I'd have some straight away, been through 4 sets and they all cracked, used the large threaded washers, even glued on a washer to try to prevent it, never over tightened them, last set had cracks coming from the screw holes... Got peed off and got some new delks, so far so good..... Also had some ECU's.... Again great alarms....

Had several Neville sets over the past 30 years & can honestly say that I have NEVER cracked a case! I am not saying it doesn't happen as I have bought several that have had cracks in the casing around the thread from the previous owner/s, but this is down to the user over tightening onto buzzer bars to align. I always used the Gardner leather washers on the alarms as well as other shims/washers to get the required alignment should the buzzer bars not have a Pozi-loc type fitting. There is a little bit of give to allow for tightening up once right down to the casing, but you can tell if it is going to need more than the case will handle simpy by looking to see how far out of alignment it is when tightened. Anything more than about 10 degrees is going to crack the case or put excess stress on the plastic, and I would expect any alarm case to break r crack if overtightened too much. I have seen TLB's sheered off at the thread by a user trying to over tighten to align without thinking about how much the alarm could take.

Could not agree more pal. Gear will not last if the owner does not take care of them. If been in very harsh floods with my kit. Every time and I mean every time when I get home from my fishing I always pack everything out and make sure everything is clean and I dry out everything from my old TLBs down to my tent and reels rods etc.... Never had problems with any of my kit.
Washers if also used and have to say they play their part. Old mate of mine cracked his alarms simply by over tigtning his alarms simply because he want to put his bobbins or swingers under his alarm with no spacers to help create more space to add all of this...

However...if the back screws are greased or oiled that goes a long way to prevent that problem.
As for the bottom thread...if the alarm back is removed and a thin stainless flat washer with section cut out so it
looks like a letter C is placed between the tiny bolt head and the casing it alleviates a lot of pressure on the casing.
If you were prepared to unsolder some connections then the internals can be removed , then the tiny headed bolt and then the washer does not require cutting.
This should NOT be expected that the required work by the owner to rectify design faults on alarms that have been sold for decades and shows how Nevs just never got round the problem of cheap plastic cases.

Just ordered a set of Nevs with the Jag 316 stainless indicators from the UK. Just waiting for the shipping charges to be added then they will be on the way to me...
I'm pretty sure Il get good use out of the Nevs. As long as I can fish with no problems Il be happy with them. Don't need all the bells and whistles of other makes. If it works I'm happy to pay the price for any indication system.

It's strange when I had top end alarms I was always getting the urge to upgrade when the next latest and greatest alarm came along. Not that I ever used the features after an initial play.
Then I got Nevs and never got the urge to change again. Wonderful simplicity.

I've had my MK3 Nevs a few years now and I did hear alot of talk about the cases cracking. I purchased some adapter quick connections for them off E bay or somewhere and they have been one of the best things I've purchased. I recommend them for the Nevs especially as once they are in place you never have to unscrew or tighten them again which causes the case to crack.

I have MK1 Nevilles (Kudos converted with blue lighting rollers), which I bought second hand probably 5 years ago. They have always been faultless but the cases were a little cracked and so I had then recased and linked to an ATTX sounder box earlier this year, they are now like new.
I love small alarms and they have never let me down., highly recommended.

I'm waiting for the tackle shop in UK to add shipping charges to my cart... I have to say I look forward using the alarms. Simple is what I like.
Just can't get my head round the bobbins to use.... I like the Avid Carp ones been using them a while now and they just world class. Lost a few o rings but the hardware always has stock.
What you guys think on indicators ? Decided to drop the Jag 316s and rather stick to the Avid Bobbins...

Do the odd slack line fishing also... been thinking maybe look into Korda Stows to use with the Nevs instead of Avid... Just trying to find what would work best so I don't change between indicators every session...

Same here and Clinga Old School bobbins (Mine are the old Muddy Waters before Cygnet took over.) I changed from Delkim Txi plusses to remote Mk 3 Nevs and have been very pleased with them. But the Delkims were also great and so was their customer service. From time to time I still miss the da-da-da-da-da-da sound of the Delkims, but I much prefer the size and weight of the Nevs . I have used the JAG alarm aligners and my Nevs haven't cracked in the casing.

Exactly bud, it's why I opt for Neville. If I am busy making a brew or cooking and the rod next door runs I won't be confused as to if it's mine or his buzzer sounding. 🎣🎣

Used nevs and delks for as long as I care to remember and although I've always loved the Nevs for their simplicity and looks there's been occasions where they've nearly cost me , i once woke on a winters morning and was missing a free spirit hi's and rod and basia reel due to having a take but the roller had frozen solid , luckily I managed to find said rod and reel , also I'd say the receivers ain't the best imo the 2 sets i had both had developed reciver pairing problems although I can't say I ever cracked one like mentioned bellow, great simple alarms but for me there's way better out there , I recently purchased the new Delkims tx-d which are far superior in all aspects and suit my style of angling 👍there's a reason most people use delks or fox , sometimes it's not about looks but performance imo

I'm based in the wrong country... Most of the good tackle shops that sell the unique items I want doesn't ship to South Africa... Once I'm finaly in the US I will send the Nevs in for stainless casings.... Browsed the net and fell in love with the buzzer... Would look good with my stainless bankware

I don't think you can you can recase plastic nevs to stainless. You'll need to buy a second hand set of the nash nevs or be prepared to dig deep for a used set of Stainless Steve neville alarms - if you can find any.
