Good evening,
Has anyone successfully recreated the original scent of the Nash monster pursuit.
I'm aware of the recipe.
Shellfish sense appeal.
Regular sense appeal.
Salmon oil.
But having ordered the hutchy flavours it doesn't seem close, so thought I'd ask.
Thank you.

Wasn't there another liquid, maybe two in there??
Crustacean extract or seafood blend rings a bell.. maybe I am wrong?

This was the original recipe as per Terry's book,
3ml shellfish sense appeal.
10ml regular sense appeal.
1ml salmon oil palatant.
I can remember a few different combos with one including liver.
But it would be the commercially available one I'm after.
Thanks Tom.

Should have explained this, but I have previously had a bait made by a company that are no longer in business, they successfully used a combination in a fishmeal base they already had,
So I'm sure it was the combination of flavours that I remember.
Thanks Tom.

Yeah, but you'd need the same base mix as they used for it to smell the same

I'm told that the Salmon Oil palatant is the same/very similar to Catchit Labs Salmon flavour.

I have no doubt it would have been built around a similar fishmeal base mix with old ratios but he certainly didn't go out of his way to relplicate, the bait from scratch.
He merely added a flavour combination to the existing mix.

Thanks nemesis, I also read that their shellfish was very similar to the original.

Are you making it on a standard 40% content plain fishmeal base mix,
or the the spiced TH version with 15% Robin red content.

I'm just playing around with different ideas ideas at the moment and seeing how I get on,
it'll be a high fishmeal content to start.

But a bait with 40% provimi (which is a fair guess was in monster pursuit) will smell different to a bait with 40% krill. Or sardine and anchovy, or any of the other meals - or a combination!
I wouldn't worry too much as without the actual recipe or actual liquids, you'll never get it spot on. Just use the best mix you can now, with the best/closest match and don't worry if it's not exactly as you remembered, as memory plays funny tricks!

Thanks Frothey.
You're not wrong memory and nostalgia my favourite recipe 😋.
I used to get a kilo of basemix and the liquid to add to it.
I think if I go along the lines of the catchitlabs.
Shellfish sense appeal.
Regular sense appeal.
And salmon flavour.
I shouldn't be far wrong.
Thanks Frothey.

That's because Catchit used to supply Nash! The red liver is identical too.

Do you know when Nash started to use catchit Labs for their flavours, I'm pretty sure they didn't when they split from Hutchinson or when they brought out the the original oil palatents which they advertised as American. Of course that could be false but suspect they were from Fulstrom.
I'm not putting catchit down as I know they produce some very good products but for me the Nash products what few they sell now, are not as good now as they used to be.

What´s the difference between the shellfish and regular sense appeal, flavour-wise ?

You are correct Christian. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the guy who started catchit worked for Nash as a flavourist at one point. The oil palatants were of american origin if their blurb is to be believed, the Catchit ones are most likely copies of them. It's no coincidence that they do strawberry, peach, salmon, red liver all on an oil base. There's also the liver amino which forms part of the shellfish sense appeal as well as being a stand alone product. I have the red liver, scopex and shellfish and they appear identical to the ones I used to use from Nash.

Shellfish SA had a pungent fish/mollusk smell whereas the regular SA was a more mild meaty flavour, I thought though may be wrong was the shellfish SA just had Shellfish flavour added to regular SA. I always found amino blend supreme to be a better product used as a glaze to boilies.

The labels on the last two Nash versions of SSA (well version of packaging) state mpg base with liver and crab flavours. Pretty sure the original was liver amino with added monster crab but it is only speculation.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that was it. SSA had crab and mussel ladded so Monster Crab and Freshwater Mussel flavours?
