Right lads I've had the old classic daiwa 5000ts for probably 6/7 years now , never missed a beat but had a play with some of the new emblem qd's with the golden spool earlier and was well impressed. For the first time I'm tempted to trade in the old work horses but worried about the longevity of the newbies .

Im in exactly the same boat mate. I have a love hate relationship with the tournaments. I have them on a second older set of rods that come out on smaller waters, everytime i use them, i wish i had my basias with me. Despite what the deluded say, they arent a pleasure to use, they have character and are work horses and will never let me down, but the emblems feel like reels should in this day and age. But its that thought that id regret selling them cause what i like about them is the stay on rods tied together, and to the landing net, with shoe laces, no protection, and i dont care, if i got the new emblems id need a rod bag etc and its extra stuff to take, although not a great deal admittedly

I hear ya mate , I think what's putting me off now I think about it is that they'd probably be covered in scratches and chips after my first session , especially on the gravel pegs I fish at the moment

I bought my first set of Tournies about 20yrs ago. Every time I've tried something else I've always gone back to them. They feel rubbish from new so they can't deteriorate, don't do it!!! 😂

Keep your reels. Still have most reels on the market but use 5000t, black 5000t and SS3000 most of the time

Agree with most comments...keep them.
I had a set of SS3000's a few years ago that I had owned for years and for some reason decided to sell them as I fancied a set of Iso's which were great but as good as they were they didn't feel right........ bought another set of SS3000's second hand which were no way near as good as my first set, moved them on and bought some 5000T's..... good but not 3000's....
I've eventually got a set of 3000's that are nearly as good as my original set...not quite but they will do. If in doubt, stick don't twist...wish I hadn't

I've never really regretted selling any of my gear apart from reels, I'd keep them for sure,.... You'll use them again one day.

2600,5000t and 6000,s are all I own and they cover everything I need to do,I've owned a few newer sets of reels I personally just don't like them.In my opinion tournies have stood the test of time and something I wouldn't fish without.It's all opinions n bum holes everyone likes different things.As for the newer stuff only time will tell.

The black tournaments are exactly the same internally but they have one ball bearing less (in the handle knob). For what its worth and at the risk if me sounding like a broken record i service hundreds of reels a year and theres really not much on the market that will stand the test of time like a tourny or ss3000. Quiet simply the design is old and no frills but that is exactly what makes them so durable. If the lack of infinate anti reverse is an issue then weston now do an upgrade with a lot more points.

They are good reels and do a job, but durability does not make them the best reels on the market like people seem to suggest on here. I'm not suggesting they're the best reels to use Heff, simply offering an opinion on the longevity and reliability of them. Does a smoother or less clunky reel put more fish on the bank when compared to 100's of kilos of decent bait, and waters to catch them from? Honestly, carp anglers are a marketing man's dream... Hot puddings, TV aerials, what an absolute bunch of fannies...

Your 2nd sentence says it all Ian. The fact you are able to service reels, ie there are parts available, is what's in their favour. The same can't be said for multiple shimano models and I noticed penn are now on their 3rd affinity
