Of the cheaper brand hooks which are around £2 a pack can anyone recommend some reliable ones?
I'm not worried about sharpness as they will be sharpened just strength and reliability really...

No I can sharpen hooks but just sick of paying £5 a pack for hooks which still need to be sharpened anyway.

Rigworx hooks would be perfect for you then, slightly thicker in the wire but are really nice to rub up with a file!

Using bank tackle hooks myself. Never had a hook fail and as said I'm happy with the sharpness from the outset. A lot of fishing mates use them as well and no issues either.

Currently using Korum Expert Specimen hooks in size 6, really pleased with their performance so far, had to hit & hold a few and they sharpen really well, good for all general situations I'd say.

I normally go for a size 4 micro barbed on the syndicate lake and size 6 barbless on the other lake I fish (depending on the pattern)

Another vote for Bank Tackle hooks.....
Been using them for two seasons now with no issues at all.
Sharp and strong in all the patterns I have tried.
Really underlines the greed from many other tackle companies when it come to the prices of their hooks.

Have a look at a company called 'the last yard' I bought a few packets in Barbless for some holiday fishing (I don't generally use barbless) and was pleasantly surprised with the quality. I've used Bank Tackle in the past and would say the quality was better. Nice long points, and tidy round the eye area with no rough edges. Steel seemed to be better quality too in matte finish.

I use Bank Tackle hooks for all my fishing:
Carp fishing, german rig usually, I use the curve shanks in 6 & 4.
Barbel fishing, 99% of the time, I use size 8 continentals (but have the same pattern in 4 & 2 for large lumps of meat).
Just tried their wide gape in size 10 for smaller pellet baits and caught an 11lb barbel on a heavily flooded river first time out.
Never had one open up or snap etc. Cheap enough to chuck out when the points blunt.

Plus one for angling iron.
Very sharp.
I know Sharp tackle has changed hands recently so the following might be sorted now. But about 12 months ago their hooks went right down hill. I had a lot of problems with points turning over resulting in lost fish and the hook material had obvious surface flaking problems. Not a great finish at all.

Aren't Angling Iron hooks over £4 a pack though? I used the durapoint hooks before and found them good but not a cheap hook as such.

Bank tackle get my vote, I've not caught anything over 20lb but never had a hook straighten or fail in the years ive been using them

I like muggas. Wouldn't call them cheap or expensive. I also really rate Korda kaptor Kurv shanks, now discontinued so selling cheap. I just got another 5 packs at £2.50 a pack

I agree I like muggas and I like esp trig hammers I wouldn't call either of them expensive tbh, the way I see it is I pay £1000s for my fishing gear I wouldn't skint out on one of the most important parts the hooks, now before anyone says it I'm not slating cheap hooks I'm just saying find a hook you like and are happy paying the price for.
I've got a friend who loves bank tackle hooks and I got another who loves Korda kamakura hooks upto to either what hook they like to use
