hi all, I'm looking to upgrade my 10ft mk2 scopes to fish small/medium sized UK lakes. Looking to use solid bags so what are peoples recommendations on 10ft rods and t.c that will be upto the job.
Looking to spend no more than £150 per rod max.

The tackle box CFX black 10ft rods they do them in 3.00lb & 3.25lb tc cracking rods for the money can get for well below your budget per rod

Quite the sweeping statement. Fuji and alps reels seats, minima rings, 1k woven blanks.... all components used on custom built rods in the UK!... oh you mean cheap labour made? im sure scopes and the pace compacts are built in China for peanuts... so its not quite as clear cut as your sweeping statement.
As said above, I'd go for the tacklebox cfx 3.25 or the gardner gtc

10ft dwarf 3.25lb: Rig, Fox distance leads 3.25 oz and pva bag and I can easily get 103/113 yards with it all the time
I don't see any reason to switch back to 12ft, i just dont like the retractable option so next yeat 10ft Cf-x hand build

What is the action like on the pace compacts? Is the 3.5lb pace similar to the 3.25lb scope?

I gave my opinion that's what he asked for the problem is that Nash gear is priced to high for the poor quality others might have. The same level of quality but at the right price I remember when Nash first started early 80s the gear was good then with fox

I had the 10' Mk2 Scopes in 2.75lb for about 18 months, couldn't fault them, and they were second hand. Decided on a change so got some of the new Avid Traction pro's in 10' 3lb, feel good, nice and light, first outing with them tomorrow after work, let's see how they go, not an easy water but hope to test the bend out.

I completely agree. Obviously a statement made with no actual experience of owning scopes. Having owned scopes for years as well as the early batch of Pace Compacts, I'd actually say that the scopes are better quality.

Every thread where the paces and scopes are brought up just descends into chaos 
I think we forget, tackle is subjective rather than objective - what one person likes another doesn't... It's a good job really or we would all be using the same rods...
The reel seats and rings on the scopes are better regarded fuji's/alps/minimas or whatever they actually are. I personally think the blanks of the pace compacts have a better action for me but I wouldn't expect it to suit everyone

I've been through a few sets of 10ft rods...
Cf-x have shortish handles so if that bothers you you could go custom. That said, they are obviously more expensive in custom build and I think that pushes the price beyond what the blanks are worth - they are a thick and heavy blank and the 3.25lb is a bit too heavy. I much preferred the 3 pounders... One of the rod builders, Gary at the tacklebox, did tell me they were going for longer handles on the standard build in the next shipment so maybe they are in stock now.
Free spirit s range 10ft, probably only 70 a rod more than custom built cf-x and they really do knock spots off them, I love mine and out of all my 10ft rods I won't get rid.
Cotswold pace - mid budget build with non fuji fittings and seaguide rings, but they are the nicest retractable rods I have seen in the flesh action wise. Different league to sonik xtractors which also suffer with short handles. More progressive action than scopes in the 3lb tc I've tried.
I guess it depends if you want retractable rods? Personally I think they offer acceptable if not decent performance but I do feel standard rods still have the edge with (on the whole) better action, longevity and choice.

Ok, so am now trying out the Avid Traction pro's, lovely rods, light, cast superb and a nice action when playing fish on, for a 10' 3lb rod, nice and progressive bend, to me, very nice, and only £90 👍🏻

Only use scopes in 3.5 for everything
Sold the Harrison's , free spirits and big pits
use castizms , forget the crap about casting as well as
big pits , still love them though
I use a cheap dwarf rod for the spomb and marker duties
And laugh at people in small swims struggling 😂
Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of minima type rings but
you can't have everything
Ok you can buy 10ft rods of any brand but for me the scope is bang on
I can throw in on the front seat and off I go

Have used Scopes for the last 3 years. Did not ever consider changing. Recently been contemplating a traditional 2 piece rod. Can see me at some point scratching that itch.
