I'm looking into trying tiger nuts for the first time and wanted to ask where you get yours from? I've only ever seen some tubs in a tackle shop by Dynamite baits. Do you know any good outlets online that might be better value for money?

TIA

British aqua feeds or monster particles

Try a local animal feed suppliers. If you want to produce your own. If not to be honest, although not the most cost effective way to buy them, the jars of Dynamite tigers are always spot on.

Thanks for the replies. Most appreciated as always.

I had considered making/preparing my own although the instructions and method I found takes around a week for the fermentation route. I don't have the time for that. My concern with buying them preprepared is are they done correctly and what type of method, fermented or unfermented.

You'll not get the fist-class slimey/gloopy nuts that you can prepare yourself from a supplier mate. They need to be done at home.
The Dynamite ones are as close as you'll get but they cost 10 times what they do from other suppliers of prepared particles.
I think Monster do a bucket deal where they're supplied in the cooking juices. Might be worth a look?

Tbh doing them yourself takes next to no time at all bud. It's all soaking with just half an hour boiling in the middle. A week max.

You don't have time to leave some nuts in a bucket for a week? You do realise you don't need to sit and watch them?

I assume he means he needs them within a week?

Okay, thanks for that. Useful feedback. I'll give it a try in that case. It's not like I have to be on the hob cooking for 7 days is it

I actually don't need them within a week. Not for 3 weeks actually. I was weighing the value of my time vs buying them vs quality of product.

No brainer tbh. As Yonny said. Cheaper to buy your own, they are MILES better than the jars as you get the sugars/gloop and you can also get them a lot softer and chewy too (as opposed to the pre-cooked nuts that seem raw in the middle).
Sack of nuts, big bag of brown sugar (if you want), simple.

Edit - BAF are doing good deals on tigers at the moment, and are an excellent company to deal with.

In that case do a load mate. The gloop/slime will last in the freezer so worth doing loads

Would be well worth picking up some essential baits thaumatin-b if you are after as much slime as possible

I don't think you can beat doing your own. I'm yet to try the full fat cola method but apparently it's very good. I think mainline do some readymades in a large jar that are cooked in some sort of sweetener. No idea what they are like.

Been looking on the BAF site after sunnymead kindly suggested them. Funnily enough, I noticed their factory facilities when I picked up my DNA order a few weeks back.

I feel cooking these could lead to all sorts of fun/start to open doors of making/preparing my own baits. In truth, I've been a little apprehensive in case I don't prepare them correctly and do harm to the fish. Last thing I want to do is be the one that has caused a fish floating in the water due to poorly prepared bait. I'm all for doing things myself, it's just having that confidence you're not doing more harm than good. If that makes sense.

Mate, it's easy.
Soak for at least 24 hrs.
Boil for 30 mins. Try one to make sure they're done.
Put in a bucket with all the juices.
Add a load of sugar and stir.
Seal tightly and leave somewhere warm for 2-4 days.
Job done.

Yonny is right.
If you're really worried then maybe start with groats or something less potentially harmful, but if you follow the soaking and boiling guidelines you will be absolutely fine.
Preparing particles is a gateway drug to boilie making for many
Good luck and keep us all posted.

Try one to make sure it's done - never really followed this - for clarification to the guy, are we talking bite one and make sure it splits? I've recently been pondering just how powerful the pharyngeal teeth are... A jumbo tiger must take some chewing...

So does a swan mussel. A correctly prepared Tiger nut shouldn't be too much of a problem. However it must be correctly prepared.

Check out the skinned ones from Eric Smith's website. My pal swears by them and certainly catches more than his fair share!

I'd use them myself but their banned on all the waters I fish 👎
