I'm looking for a new set of reels and Like the look of the basias. Are they worth the money?

In a word, no. They aren't. No fishing reel is worth that much.
But I do own a set, that I treated myself to. They are lovely to use. Look the tits.i personally love the clutch on them, some don't like it and think it's too quick. I just use my finger to slow it if I ever find that though. They also get a bad reputation for being fragile and getting grit in them. I've had basias for the last 12 years, changed to the customs last year from original silver ones. Never had one issue. If you look after them, they are fine. If they get covered in muck, rinse them off With fresh water at home.
That all said. Having seen the new emblem 45 scw reels. Would I but basias over them? If I was minted and money was no problem, then yes, if I had had to save for them, I'd get the emblems all day long and keep the saved cash for something else. Its about £700 difference

Totally agree with heff. Top end reels are lovely to own but definitely not worth how much they cost. If money isnt an issue then treat yourselve but If you have to save up for them or get them on a credit card as they to much to buy in one go then definitely dont bother as you wont gain anything fron owning them other than they are nice to look at.

Yes. Having upgraded from ultegra 5500 to basia SLR's as a present to myself
you can see where the few extra hundred goes.
Same analogy of a fiesta would get you A to B, but a Ferrari would do it nicer. I wouldn't down grade out of choice after buying them tbh, as with anything just look after them. if your heavy handed and drop them in mud maybe consider something like the emblems as mentioned below or the new crosscast 45 (basia at a cheaper pricepoint)

Going from shimano to daiwa is always going to be an upgrade. Ive had all the top end daiwa reels and the best of them all is still the original iso.

I take it you have owned a few ferrari's to make such a claim? They must be mad giving 7 year service maintenance and extended warranties with their cars breaking down every time you drive them 😜

My neighbour has a Ferrari 430 and the missus mates husband also has the spider version and they are both constantly spending money hand over fist on them as theres constantly something wrong with them. Ive had a go of the spider and its horrible to drive as well. They are the only two ferraris that i know about so going off that there as unreliable as it gets. It wasnt as quick as my rs6 i had either and i could get a full carp set up in that with room to spare.

Wow hilarious comment where does this delusion come from .We are talking about reels for fishing and getting a diawa is a massive downgrade as a fishing reel .Seems to be looking tarty is far more important than owning a fishing reel .Basias aren't fit for purpose absolute coffee grinding junk .Nowt stranger than carp fisherman

Agree with all the points here in that they are nice etc but there are better personally couldn't fault my qdx had them 10 years and serviced by custom reels every 2/3 years and not had any issues in fact I sold them for almost as much as it cost me for some dcr customs which are even sexier

They are expensive hi tec toys that are not designed to Potter around posing in which is what many owners do. They are designed to be driven hard on track days and will always be high maintenence and expensive same as any supercars.

Shimano reels are not a patch on what they used to be and have been going down hill for years. Daiwa are in a different league. No one cares what you think or pays any attention to what say anyway so post away 😀

so you've had the top end shimano reels to do a comparison then? I haven't hence my comparison of a budget shimano to higher end diawa
I would pick a stella over a saltist anyday if you want to go down the whole diawa is better than shimano..... but i wont digress

Yes correct ive had them all from the original tech 10000 xt's to the tech black mags to iso's, basiairs etc (I personally dont like basias) and also stellas and saltists and saltigas and the saltiga in my opinion is a better reel than the stella and the best reel money can buy. For a UK carp reel the original iso in my opinion is still my favourite reel of them all but sadly have been discontinued now.
You cant compare a stella to a saltist as the stella is 3 times the price of a saltist. You can only compare the stella to the saltiga as they are a similar price and are the top end of both brands.
At the end of the day any half decent reel will do for carp fishing. Your saltigas are made for big game fishing so need to take a battering which they do with ease.
£500 plus carp reels are complete over kill and not required for carp fishinng but if you can afford them then they are nice to own. There a bit like a luxury watch, you dont need one to tell the time but there nice to own and also an expensive hobby a bit like carp fishing.

You're not another deluded shimano fan boy are you.I have owned them all before you ask by both companies mentioned and I used to only buy shimano.Modern shimano are ***** compared to older models,i now own daiwa reels on my carp rods and won't be going back.I gave shimano another chance with the power aero xtb and did not like them

I think the ISOs and Tournie 6k are the best Daiwa have made. The ISO and 6K are different beast having both my sets serviced I'd say they are both as smooth although I prefer the 6K ever so slightly for pure engineering basis and quality feel but at a weight.

I'd take a Stradic over a saltist, because they are both mid range.
