Any recommendations for log sleeved vest and long johns base layers? Thinking of the winter months and sitting under a brolly all day. What do you use? Cheers.

I bought a set of these top and bottoms when in the USA a good few years ago and they are superb costly but I have never been cold link below.

Cheers guys, never thought of M&S! I'll certainly check those out although wouldn't wool be an irritation next to the skin? I can check Decathlon out on my way home from a fishing trip on Wednesday.

Its never made me itch,Merino wool has natural wicking properties and does not smell if you sweat in it

Ok Braders, so natural wicking soaks away sweat to the next layer? I suppose the next question is where to start and finish?

It absorbs it some how,I have never had any issues with it.You could do with oldgeezer popping up,he knows some good thermals and normally puts links on for you

hi
merino is much softer even than lambs wool its like wearing a very soft cotton.
i prefer 100% . be careful of some
cheaper stuff they throw the Merino term around and then you find its got a load of cotton or Poly in it.
how it wicks is amazing. as you heat up, the fibres loosen and create more tiny holes for vapour and sweat.
in the cold the fibers tighten.
as braders says, the amazing thing is its natural anti bacterial properties. which means it never smells of BO
scientists in the Arctic have worn it for months on end and reported no odour.
if its 100% merino just take a bit of care with it. wash in a machine at 20 or 30 but use woolite , not a detergent. and no conditioner.
it will stay more natural then. not strip away all its oils and protection
when drying, dont let it get hot. not direct sun or radiators.. it will last decades

Had a merino top for snowboarding. I went a whole season without washing it and didn't smell at all, and I'm a sweaty little ****er

Helly Hansen base layers a little more expensive than others but the warmest I've ever worn, you don't sweat in them either.

Merino isnt itchy. Ive used woolpower and icebreaker merino thermals for years and they are brilliant. The icebreaker is more comfy though.

Take a look at Brynje of Norway super thermo base layers... think hi tech string vests, with a tightish fitting merino layer over the top you'll be warm as toast.
I wouldn't touch Helly Hansen... there's a reason they get the nickname smelly helly...

I went out yesterday to get some bits to do a plumbing job in the house. Unable to find what I wanted but came home with a boot full of sacks of coal for Winter instead. I was sweating buckets loading up in the heat and unloaded car early this morning before it got hot again.
It's called forward planning.

The amount of money to be saved buying this stuff out of season is ridiculous. I buy thermals, waterproofs etc as it warms up and shops want to clear that stuff, will often be half the price it would cost in october/November.
I normally buy gas when the supermarkets/wilko/Halford are clearing it after festival season, might struggle this year with that
I find merino itchy when I put it on but it settles down after a bit
