Following on from breaking my reel, can anyone recommend a glue or something to glue the metal pieces together? Obvs needs to be super strong, is there anything out there??

JB Weld like Wayne said. What parts have you actuly broken though, are they high stress parts or sideplates or covers?

Yeahhh lol, the oscillator slider' basically it's a square metal shape around 8mm square, the top groove goes into the worm shaft and the spool spindle goes into the middle of the square, with a screw holding it in place. Basically the square instead of 1 piece is now 3. Seen review on jb, don't know how much it will take as if say lot or stress is on the joints

Don't you know anyone in engineering that could make you a piece up? It wouldn't be too difficult by the sounds of it

That's what i was thinking.
8mm square bar is fairly common in mild steel, ally etc.

I wouldn't waste your time with glue mate, you can't reliably glue metal, it has to be welded. You would need to be pretty crafty to weld those three bits back together and keep it dead straight. I would try and source a spare.

Yeah already tried to find a spare but seems a common fault and as they are superseded reels parts are not readily available. Someone is potentially going to re make them, but for sake of £5 Iv ordered some epoxy resin and see how that fairs until I can hopefully get one

Doesn't look like steel to me from the pictures
It's probably a alloy of some sort so couldn't be welded anyway.
Might be best just to order one from the manufacturer or if you know someone who could cast one for you In some sort of home foundry
but it's not difficult to do it out of ally if needed.

Looks like a cast alloy, you could get it TIG welded but looks extremely fiddly and if load bearing will probably go again. I'd buy a small block of brass 10mm x 10mm drill and a couple of files and make one mate if you can't buy a spare. Good luck 👍

Try these they may be able to help with a small piece like that

You can weld many cast alloys with the correct equipment.

Fair enough things have changed in the last few years then lol
I tried to get things welded years ago and got told nah can't do it
try To get it braised.

I have a TIG welder And a mig welder and braizing kit
Think I might try welding some of these alloys up

Even if you had the the right gear the issue welding this shaft would be keeping it all straight. As the weld cools it will contract, pulling it out of whack. You can then apply heat to the opposite side to pull it straight, but this is not an exact science and would not necessarily pull in the perfect opposite plane. Im guessing for the shaft to be useable it would have to be perfectly straight, I can't see that happening.

Fair play for giving the glue a go, but I'd hope it doesn't blow up with a decent fish on. Hand lining is a stressful business!

A trained toolmaker would be a good bet for a solid brass or stainless replacement, an old pro with a milling machine and lathe in his shed would probably take it on but I'd say a commercial company would be prohibitively expensive.

Yeah I think my only real good hope is a German bloke who makes shimano parts and think he's making them, god knows how much they'll be though
