A decent boilie to stick with... (16 posts / 2,303 views)

I've got a problem.... I've been chopping and changing baits for a few years now... although I do use alternatives to boilies where I can, one of the lakes I'm fishing this year has loads of tench and bream so need to stick to boilies on here and they do like a bit of bait.

I ideally want a bait that is available with matching paste as it's surprising how many baits don't have this option when I have looked.

There are a few local(ish) options - Bait Asylum / Nash where I could pick up within reason so don't have postage costs...

I won't be buying in bulk - 10kg at a time

Appreciate there may be lots of different answers but fire away by all means!! please

Like chucking a dart with a blindfold.

Loads of gooduns, my preference is Essential B5, but i am quite liking Baitworks Atlantic Heat in shelf life.

If choosing a bait to deter tench and bream, id go with a decent boilie and tigers as feed and fish a tigernut on the hair.

Never really had that issue so i couldn't comment whether there is a boilie that tench/bream have a distaste for.

If I was local to Bait Asylum I'd be giving that a go, 10kg Marine and some hook baits, you can then forget about bait and concentrate on getting on fish & fishing well.

You could always bait a spot a bit away from where you intend to put your hookbaits with some wheat to maybe keep the Bream & Tench occupied for a while?

Change is one of the hardest things to do in angling, IMO.

But it's not the bait that needs changing, it is usually the angler. You're not alone in chopping and changing bait, FWIW, I was exactly the same, but I'm now stuck on the same bait/company for the past 8/9 years.

Bait is a massive part of carp fishing, maybe not so much for the carp themselves (they'll likely eat anything in reality), but confidence for the angler in question, so my advice is get some samples (most companies offer these now), and work on what makes YOU confident based on the results and your instinct about them.

Once you find a bait, will you fish the matching hookbait or use something totally different to it say a hookbait from UB baits or the Baitroom as I am seeing people do?

I have been like you, couldnt settle on a bait, making my own buying different brands, but now found what I think is a quality bait caught a good few on it already when others have struggled!
Have a look at baitworks I've been using Atlantic heat.

If you can stand the smell, not to be put in freezer with frozen food. Done it won't again.

I have no complaints, I was told it seems to find the larger fish in the lake. The advice was correct

Three things I never buy cheap. Hooks, line and bait. Use Sticky Krill and have done pretty much since it came out. Brilliant bait and associated products. Don't use vast amount of bait, maybe 3 to 5 k over 3 rods in 48 hours so not too expensive. Brilliant stuff.

Same here

Some good advice already

I'm not sure who is the bait brain behind Sticky now but when they brought the XS out that caught a LOT of fish around me

I don't think anybody can go far wrong with Mainline, Sticky, Nash, Dynamite or Essential out of the more popular brands

ABS have a very good reputation and I saw the Asylum baits video, another man with a passion and that's what it's all about for me. Some people who know more about bait than most have forgot. Who are you going to put your faith in, them or Joe bloggs?

I am positive there are some other good company's about but it's the recommendations from people who have used it and what they have caught from where for me that you need to be looking for or asking about

Look for a reputable company and a bait with a track record. Then concentrate on your fishing

I am very happy on sticky's krill, something about it just screams fish and in the short time I have been back fishing, it's caught me fish when the lakes shut up for other anglers, maybe me getting it right? Lady Luck? Whatever it is, I feel 100% I don't have to worry about the bait
Ps I am not sponsored 😂😂

Totally agree with the confidence thing. Once you find a bait and catch, and keep catching you no longer need to worry about bait and fish better (& therefore catch more)

Been there myself many times, wasted a lot of money and time.
