I currently use a pair of Daiwa Tournament 5000T reels which have being faultless. My daughter is fishing with me more and more now so I am thinking about adding a pair of the Infinity XBR reels to my kit for when she fishes so she can make use of the bait runner feature. I know these are quite a pricey reel for her but if they are anywhere near as reliable as the 5000T's I am happy.
Can anyone who owns these give any feedback? Are they built as good as the Tournament reels? I have looked on Daiwa's website and the RRP is £525 whereas the 5000T has a RRP of £385. Is the difference in price just the BR feature or am I missing something. I can see they have the same rubbish 'Shark Tooth' line clips that will need upgrading.

I've had both bud. The infinities are basically tournies with a bait runner. Bomb proof.

They are very heavy but excellent reels and will last forever. You will be better off with some 8000 baitrunners imo if she is just starting out and young as they are a very big heavy bulky reel.

Great reel, built to last. Have replaced the line clips on mine, easy enough to do yourself. Some good used ones out their which would be cheaper.

I've been told there's more refined lighter reels about but not having tried them I can't say, as I'm happy with my reels I don't feel the need to start trying other reels, seen too many go down that road.
To be fair line clips were originally meant to hold the loose end of the line to stop it becoming unravelled from the spool and is probably why the line clips are not suited to clipping up. I haven't changed my line clips I find a bit of pole elastic wedged in them does the job but as a matter of interest a question to people who have changed them themselves what clips did you use?

I changed the washers got them from Roy Carbontex Washers.
Not bothered about the line clips the pole elastic works fine but would be interested to hear about people who have changed them themselves

I was never bothered about the line clips either, some people seem to see them as a must.
Speed up the drag like you have and they must be perfect

I was lucky enough to get 3 from a bloke in work for 200 of the queens finest....mint condition and only used twice on France trips..... he has has a bad run of having kids every 2 years so couldn't see when he was gonna get fishing again so sold them to me..... I was gob smacked ... first he wanted 450... but as I didn't need any reels I said no... a few moths later he said 300 for the 3... again I said no thanks... a few more moths later he phoned me and said last offer 200 for the 3...at that price I had to buy them even though I wasn't after any reels at the time,,,,,

I fail to see the point in 'quick dragging' a reel that already has a free-spool mechanism?

Depends if you play fish off the drag or your a back winder. If off the drag the adjustment is minimal between letting the fish taking line or not. Same when you have landed a fish if playing off the drag, 1/4 turn the spool is locked up ready for the next cast. I also use this to set the distance of my lead from the rod tip prior to casting at times. It's vitually on, locked up or off in less than half a turn

Since putting Carbontex washers into my Infinities it hasn't made them quick drag. It has improved the clutch though, much smoother and no sticking

I have a set if Infinity's bxr 5000. I have had them for 16 years now and would never sell them. Sturdy and reliable great retrieve as well. I have used them in the UK and France. only one tiny issue they have plastic line clips and sometimes these do break !!! easy to change to stainless spring line clips and then The upgraded spring clips I purchased were from South Coast Reels

As for all the positives said, I too upgraded to the Carbon washers, they do make a big difference. On my second set of XBRs since they launched, sold the 1st lot as gave up fishing for a while, otherwise I'd probably still have the 1st set.
They are heavy, they are robust, probably been surpassed internally and cosmetically but I like them, as someone new to them I'd be wary of them on a lighter rod, but if you can get past that.....
Query re the Southern clips guys, do they allow the line guard to still be used? I can't remember if I've asked that company but remember those I asked saying no, hence the query.

I actually had the Johnson Ross clips on my Infinities which were fine. I see the large SCR ones are advertised as compatible so I'm sure they're fine mate.

Thanks All. Managed to get a pair for £600 but with 10% off. They came yesterday and I had already bought the SCR large metal clips so fit them.
A bit of a nightmare to fit, the video just shows someone knocking the pin out with a thin bradawl and no problem. I literally have a spool shaped dent in my oak kitchen counter and the bugger still didn't shift. Ended up using the dremmel and a small cutting disk. Loaded them up with 15lb GR60 and they feel like tanks.
Going to do a couple of nights straight after work tomorrow so will see how they go.
Looking at my Emblem spod reel the spools look almost identical so I should have checked whether they are interchangeable as the emblem spool comes with both impact line clip and sharks tooth style.

I have e-mailed SCR and they said "We have no feedback saying this happens" so all sounds good.
IIRC it was Weston Developement that said I'd have to put the guards back due to their clip, though it was a while ago.

I've heard it can be a bit fiddly to change line clips so here's a tip from TopgunAdams
Just a tip when fitting the line clips, I made a small tool that makes the job a lot simpler. Get a piece of spring metal or plastic say about 2" in length by 1" wide 1mm thickness, cut a slot in the centre of the bottom section approx. 2 mm in width, (this will allow the line clip to go through this tool) allowing you to compress the spring back and give you easy access to fitting the retaining clip in the recess. Job done. Compressing the spring is the hard bit, but this makes it a whole lot simpler and easier

I've just fitted 1 of the clips to my 5500BR and it was fairly straight forward and the clip does not interfere with the line guard using Technium Black in 15lb. Great tip from TgA, thanks for posting it Bob, I used a old bank card.
I did mine with the line on the reel and ran into a problem in that the button head came off the rivet so had to strip enough line off the reel to be able to punch out the rivet stalk. The SCR clip spindle has a much smaller bore than the hole for the original clip so the SCR clip doesn't always return home straight away, but thats a small price to pay for a usable line clip.
