Has anyone used BAF's bulk fishmeal basemix. According to the description it looks similar to a well know mix. Would be interested in if rolls well and catches fish? £70 for 20kg seems pretty reasonable too.

Are you looking to use plenty of bait & do you usually use plenty of bait while fishing?

Looking to stock up the freezer whilst have a bit of time on my hands. Also have a trip to France booked later in the year, so if that goes ahead, then I'll need a fair bit of bait yes.

Am sure it'll catch & roll well. Bit of a leap of faith buying ready rolled / base mixes as your never sure of the quantities etc.
The way I used to look at it is if I was applying lots of bait then a very simple fish meal mix would do as the breakdown/leakage would be plenty but if using small amounts I'd want the bait super charged.

Hope that makes a bit of sense?!

Yep that makes sense. I've rolled bait before using various recipes including the BM1 but I always found I'd have bit left over of one or two ingredients which decreases the cost efficiency. Also mixing the dry stuff together is a bit of bind. Buying a premixed base mix is a bit of compromise, but allows a few tweaks for how you are describing. Looking at the description, seems the BAF one might be loosely based around the Pete B mix so looks like a decent base from which to build.

It does not give you much of an idea what is in the mix on the website , just says bulk fishmeal base mix.

BAF
Bulk Fishmeal Basemix

Contents: Fishmeal and Fish Solubles, Wheat and Wheat derivatives, Maize Flour, Micronized Soya, Whey Protein Concentrate (80%).

Crude Protein 60-65%, Fat content 12-15%, values given are approximate and may vary slightly batch to batch.

I'm puzzled by the above taken from the BAF web site.
Crude protein 60-65%

Contents Crude protein
Fishmeal and Fish Solubles 60-70% ( being generous as if it contained LT Fish they would say so)
Wheat and Wheat derivatives 12-14 %
Maize Flour 14%
Micronized Soya 45-48%
Whey Protein Concentrate 80%

Can someone clever than me demonstrate how with those ingredients, they can produce a base mix with the stated protein content of a minimum of 60%?

You would need to have a reasonably accurate idea of amounts of each ingredient to work that out TBH, and some other ingredients may not be listed

All speculation because I don't know the exact ratio's or percentages, but if it is say 50% fishmeal, 20% whey and the rest it might not be far off as stated

25% Provimi + 25% LT94 + 20% WPC + 30% Soya Flour will easy get you above 60% Protein.

Do you really think it matters whether it is 55% or 60 or 65?

20% WPC !
making boilies not bullets besides the cost of 20% WPC would cost them about £1.40 if they put that much in.(£1.40 for just 20% of a mix selling for £2.79 per kg )

Its the same or similar to putting in 20% Egg Albumin in a bait in case you did not know ,5% would be about the Max
Why would they say there was Maize flour and Wheat products in the mix.

They are doing this for profit so I would guess they would want to be making the base for less than £2.00 per kg.

I looked at what is listed and made judgment, a guess as to what would get the protein levels as high as possible, you could add WPC up to say 20% and it would give a hard bait, I looked at the highest protein options from two ingredients, simple. The reality, possibly around 10%. Do you want to get the data sheets out and spend a few hours trying to figure out how they get the 60%, not that hard if you are so interested is it?

Question. Why would they list 60% if it's not

Edit - there you go while we are in lockdown

Fishmeal 5kg @ 70% =350
Whey 1kg @ 80% = 80
Wheat 1kg @12% =12
Maize 1kg @ 14% = 14
Soya 3kg @ 45% = 135

Total 591/ 10kg = 59.1 grams crude protein per KG

Edit - there you go, im wrong, that's 11kg lol

Or it could be something along these lines

It says fish solubles too and be careful when adding further solubles so I'm guessing it's something similar to this:

Fishmeal 4kg @ 70% = 350
CPSP90 1kg @ 90%
Whey 1kg @ 80% = 80%
Wheat 0.5kg @12% =6
Maize 0.5kg @ 14% = 7
Soya 3kg @ 45% = 135

Total 668 / 10 = 66.8 grams protein per Kg

£70 per 20kg = £3.50 per KG

My last post, pointless just thrashing water, I'm sure they can make what they claim, and I don't understand why you think they wouldn't? I see BAF as a reputable company myself

Total 668 / 10 = 66.8 grams protein per Kg

That equates to 6.68 percent protein.

I don't want to be rude but the math is wrong ;-)

fishmeal 4kg @70% = 2,8kg protein
CPSP 1kg @90% = 0,9kg protein
whey 1kg @ 80% = 0,8kg protein
wheat 0,5kg. @12% = 0,06kg protein
maize 0,5kg. @14% = 0,07kg protein
soya 3kg @45% = 1,35kg protein

total 10kg mix = 5,98kg protein

1kg mix has 59.8% protein

Mmmmmmm

I. just multiplied the % per Kg by the number of KGs I put in. You converted the % to KG

Not to worry I reckon BAF are spot on

And I've already got my degree

Edit , there's my error, the fishmeal is wrong since I put the predigesged in and changed the ratios about i did not change the totals, must try harder lol

You have absolutely no idea how much anything is costing them. They buy in such massive quantities, they could be paying half that for all you know.
