This is my go to hooklink im soft 20lb, however, my last outing before the lockdown i noticed after my rigs were in the water for no more than a few hours, the rig was coming back with the coating all bunched up, almost as if my rig had tangled, now i know this isnt the case, rotary rigs, critically balanced hookbaits, hitting the clip perfectly, carp angler of 15 years, i domt know if it has something to do with having no breaks in the coating, 5 turn grinner to ronnie swivel and a figure of 8 in the other end, really really strange but starting to lose confidence as it looked awful, anyone else had this happen

Could it be the cold water

i have only ever had problems fishing double 24mm baits and them spinning on the way in and causing the material to bunch up a little bit. if you have a figure of 8 on the end it should be able to rotate enough to stop it twisting especially on a Ronnie. are you using quality swivels its the only reason I can think of apart from a crap batch?.

Braders thats what i was thinking cold water causing the coating the coating to contract on the inner braid and yes using quality swivels etc, can see what youre saying regarding it spinning on way in but only using 12mm hookbaits??? Surely though it shouldnt be doing this in any temp of water?

It could have something to to with the tungsten in it,I would cut some off the spool and put it in some really cold water.If it does it,take a photo and contact ESP.I can't say I have noticed it with the semistiff version

Much more likely this than cold water. It hasn't been that cold this year and tungsten has high thermal creep resistance.

Could the 5 turn grinner have stretched the coating as it beds down and then it contracts back? Maybe try it with a palomar knot?

Sounds like Crays to me, bunching and creased rigs despite them not being tied in a knot. Obviously they love tungsten putty when squeezed on the rig, What hook bait and was this gnawed or clawed at all?

No crays in the water im fishing mate and have tried a palomar also and its still the same, also tried to figure of 8s in each end and still the same, hookbaits normally a 12mm homemade fruity one but no marks on it whatsoever

I've also seen this, albeit rarely. I put it down to tangles.

If you think its due to cold then freeze a section of it at home and see if it contracts

Strange one... have never seen it myself and use this hooklink as well.

Will be interesting to see a picture if yo have one

My money is on post 3 - spinning on the retrieve.

Used the same hooklink extensively over the last couple of years, I have never seen this - but to be fair, I haven'f used the material without having a little break in the coating..

To be honest this is what i think is causing the issue fishing it "straight through" without a break in the coating and sorry dont have a picture it was from a couple of weeks ago and definitely not down to tangles 100% but maybe it is on the retrieve especially fishing it heli style with a swivel on my leader and swivel on the hook (ronnie) could it be that both swivels are spinning opposite directions causing twist in the hooklink
