I was wondering if I should get another Shimano XTD 5500 or get a Nash GT reel or something?

Theres no contest, shimano. I wouldnt touch anything with gash written on it. Everything ive ever bought from them broke other than a barrow.

I have to admit that i have always had an issue with nash and the poor quality stuff that they churn out
I bought a scope transporter 2 months ago because to be fair to them, i liked the design
190 quid and two trips in, one of the zips has failed and one of the carry handles has almost completely come away
Utter utter garbage company
Reels are a fairly specialist bit of engineering. Stick to a company that has a history making them and gears etc
Nash cant even produce a zip that works

That's the sad thing about Nash they have great ideas titan ,scopes ect but finished product is poor quality for the high prices

I had a Titan TC Pro, brilliant, only rods I own now are Scope 10ft 2.75's, 4.5lb spod, brilliant, 6ft Sorn off, brilliant. Scope rod bags, twin and singles, spot on. Do have Shimmys on the 10 foots but a BP-6 on the Sorn off, never had a problem with that either. Had the R3's for a while, bought second hand and never missed a beat. And other odd bits of luggage with no problem. So from my experience, never had a problem with Nash gear.

I have just bought the GT4000 for my 6ft rods and so far quite happy. I have castizm on my 9ft so used to fairly good reels.

They used to sell everlasting bait, boilies that never broke down and smelt of soap, i remember watching punters lapping the stuff up at the old show's.

You have to remember that Nash pretty much changes all their range of gear year on year so 5 years down the line you can rule out getting any spares or parts for Nash reels where as Daiwa and Shimano usually hold parts and provide service centres for their products. Definitely something to consider before investing.
I dont know what Nash reel you are looking at but if it is one for Scopes dont rule out the Daiwa ss2600. Cracking reels.

Daiwa love them or hate them produce spares for 2 decades of reels and imho the Tournies 6K and Original ISO are at the pinnacle of all time greatest reels that are still supported and no doubt will be in ten years time.
Having said that Fox Reels where crap and it's taken them 10 years to produce something decent Nash does produce superb gear you just have to know what to look for.
My Canvas the Ovals Profiles Extremes and Now Hogs are superb.

I rate Nash gear highly! I have done for many many years but for reels you'd be silly not to go for shimano out the two

Each to their own mate. I understand many people say the same as you, me personally have never had problems with any of the Nash gear I have used.. I had some banksticks that rusted up after a couple weeks use but other then that I can't complain to be honest

I'm the same, had an original titan for years, first indulgence bedchair, oval brolly, banksticks, and more never any issue.

Heard the original Titan had issues and leaked, was pleased I was able to get a last generation canvas and profile although the profile wasn't the right size for it really and cause it to die after ten years of service.
Had to have the zips replaced on my canvas and they really need doing again but then it's 24 years old. still better than anything else I've seen since and I never understood the weight issue. I've mesowaxed it twice during that time and I've been out in torrential weathers.

10-12lb mono 2.5 -3oz lead and a bit of practice and you'll be there in no time.
