I'm confused. The korda lads catch a **** ton of fish. They tell you what bait they use, what rigs they use, how they selected the swim. Yet apparently because they catch on boilies it's bull****.

You want to know what works all year, some of the best anglers in the country tell you but you choose to ignore it.

Makes my head spin.

I should probably point out that a large part of doveys recent master class centred around zigs, so not a lot of boilies this and boilies that there.

Boilies are my All year round bait. I just change how I use them. I pre bait more in Winter to maximise chances. Little and often approach. Ive had bigger fish every winter last 3 years doing this so will continue to do so.

Catch carp through the year on different baits. Confident in one bait through the year. Sticky Krill boilie. Any time, anywhere as they say.

Don't forget bread, crust or paste. Floaters can work year round too. I'm sure I read about Chris Ball catching carp on floaters through holes in the ice back in the day.

Hi Tranter,

There's been other posts on forum where members have had great results throughout winter by pre baiting heavily.
Jim Shelley told me years ago that he pre baits more in winter than in summer.
And that's saying something considering how much he baits in summer.

BB.

I believe lakes become harder when bait stops being introduced. So I give them a reason to search. It also gets them confident.

I was baiting twice a day on a local park lake that's fairly difficult. On the last day I fished on the spot and had 5 takes. One the biggest mirror and one the second biggest common in the lake. Very sort after mirror.

Did it again last week and managed another 30lb common that rarely comes out.

I only use maybe 1/4 - 1/2kg every 2 days personally.

If im interpreting this right you're saying wild fish want naturally found food items?

If that's the case then I will tell you that it isn't true. I fished an unfished quarry last year and caught fish on my first trip on boilie...a bright pink one at that, whilst they were tearing up the bottom to get every last bit of boilie I had put in. I dont think any fish turn their noses up at boilies.

I don't use any single bait all year round. I do use boilie but there are specific times of year where I might ditch them altogether on certain waters. There are so many factors (primarily the availability of naturals and the presence of "nuisance" species) that will influence my decision.
I'm a huge fan of natural baits but at the moment the water I'm fishing restricts me to boilie and nuts due to the number of tench and bream casing the joint.
Like almost any aspect of carp angling it's not as simple as "what's the best" or "what do you have most confidence in". Pretty much everything should be chosen to suit the specific angling situation imo.

One thing that always sticks with me is the chapters in TH's book about the mere and how they didnt use boilies because they thought the fish wouldnt eat them...then fish got caught on yellow pop ups and the ideas changed and the carp became carp, just normal carp, like any other. Not to take away that those fish were very tricky to catch anyway due to naturals but carp are carp.

Bear in mind most waters change over the course of the year, natural cycles and all that jazz. I have personally seen waters being emptied by boiled baits completely shut up shop to boilies almost overnight. These are one of may fave times to be fishing because where most guys will sit for weeks behind motionless rods over beds of boilie, those that think get funky and have an opportunity to get the lake/target done and dusted in quick time.

Very true, and it is all water dependant as commercials are a polar opposites to low stock pits. As you say, being adaptable and open minded is key to success.
I'm a boilie & particle type of angler, I'll use both, or either on its own depending on what I see in front of me and will include different additions/glugs as I see fit.

Totally agree mate. In fact I think these purpose-built commercials are different to any pit of maturity. Little weed, few naturals, and the rules don't allow for any angling decisions to be made anyway lol.
