So these have been out for a while, seem very popular at the shows etc.

What's the reviews and feedback, please???

I have them but not used them yet on a session ! Having had a play with them I think the fears about the clutch being too quick are unfounded. You would have to be particularly ham fisted to lock them up with a fish under the tip in my opinion of course.

I really like them. Feel solid and well built, good line lay. I haven't played a fish on them yet, but as said above I don't see any issues with the clutch adjustment being too quick.

I was worried about the clutch but I don't mind it now, and it's quite a simple fix to slow it down but I haven't bothered.
The thing I don't like is the higher gearing compared to most other diawas, I'll see how they cope with some weed when it starts getting up but I suspect I'll be swapping reels in the summer. Looking at the other thread on big pits though I know some want the higher retrieve

I never went that far but the entoh caps fit, I'll have a play with them later to see if a washer swap is necessary.
When I first tried it there seemed to be a difference

Going to carbon which is thinner speeds everything up so with my logic increasing thickness should slow it down

With carbon and nylon washers it's more a case of lack of compression, slower smoother clutches use greased felt

I've had a set for a few months, fished half a dozen times with them.

I don't find the QD too quick at all. Look and feel good, happy with mine.

As duggs says its compression not thickness that slows them down, felt washers compress far more than carbon so slower to lock up. if thicker washers were fitted then the spring retainer in spool cap wouldnt fit in place.

The other thing that slows them down is also compression related and its different ratings of springs in the spool cap

The cap itself feels harder than the entoh ones, I'll have a play later but I thought that was enough to slow them down, basically the opposite of filling the emblem spod caps with epoxy to speed them up

I haven't seen a cap on the 45 but i would imagine it doesn't have a spring and just a bush

Have you got any other daiwa reels like an emblem or spod reel? the spool caps on those have a spring inside when
removed from the reel and turned over and look into the threaded part a spring can be seen this is there to slow the drag down as it buffers the loading on the drag.

I dont know if an emblem spool cap will fit your reel but if it did it would slow the drag down, it may also be possible to fit a spring in your spool cap.

The other way is to swap washers in the spool yours will be non compression washers could be carbon or a cheaper substitute, if these were swapped for felt washers like what are in emblems tournys etc then the drag would slow down.

The felt washers compress when spool cap is tightened which reduces the pressure applied per spool cap movement if that makes sense?

Doing both methods at the same time gives a very slow clutch

The entoh cap gives a much broader range on the drag, and the aperture in the spool for the washer stack is identical, so the entoh washer stack fits the emblem 45 and vice versa.....
Edit, I haven't got anything to hand to measure it, but the chamber in the entoh is a mm-2mm deeper, the washers in mine are past due replacing so fit in the emblem, but new ones I suspect you would need to drop one felt washer and maybe use one of the red ones from the emblem

If anyone knows of compatible gearing to slow the retrieve rate I'm all ears

Save yourself the effort and just buy some ss9000/6000t which already have a perfect drag and slow retrieve

Before these emblems came out my plan was to get some black 5000t and some original 5000t spools, I'm probably going back to that plan in the summer

speaking to a well known distance angler he said the emblem 35s are a better reel than the 45

I don't get all this whinging about the quick drags. I have it on my basias, and my head prefer it to the tounies I also have. Takes a bit of getting used to if you used to slower drags, but I find using my finger to slow the clutch rather than a knob on the front of the reel, far better and can. Have it exactly as I want it then, obviously needs some resistance from the knob to be able to wind down, but you get the jist hopefully.

Also, why anyone would Pick up a tournie and buy it over any other modern daiwa of shimano reel is beyond me. Unless it's a sentimental thing, or needed for bush warcraft, the new emblem reels for example feel miles better in the hand.

I agree the emblems feel better when you give them a spin in a shop, under a fairly modest load, like lifting 80yds of line off the bottom, the tourneys actually feel better

Is there another reel in the range below the iso with the same low gearing?

The drag on the Basia is nowhere near as quick as that on the 35 SCW. Personally I want it a bit more graduated.

I have bought the 35's. I replaced a set of new iso's with them. They are excellent for the price and are only slightly heavier and more clonky than a reel 4x as expensive

I quite like them. The 45's were too big for what i needed and dont come with the air-bail which i liked on the iso

They werent getting much use really. They are great reals and i loved them, especially with custom handles, but they were wasted on me. Are they worth that much more than the emblems!? I dont really think so

I took a hit on them but man maths prevailed!

The 45s are great reels. Clutch is spot on and not quite as quick as the 35s I had which I got shot of for that reason. Great value I got 3 for less than one basia and function just as good just a tad heavier imo

Hi Guys, just a question.
I see that the spool has a double lip profile. Any owners got an opinion as to its benefit ?
I also assume when you spool up that you fill to the smaller diameter lip ?

internals are poor apparently on the new emblems going by the guy who services my reels. but i guess they are priced accordingly
