I used to do a lot of rabbiting with a lurcher when I was a bit younger I was around 15 and the abuse I got then was unreal. The police were sometimes called I had permission on the land but the police would always take the antis side. I carried paperwork with landowners phone number signed and even insurance documents it was all pointless. In the end the landowners wouldn't let you on any more because it was just too much drama.

On a park lake near me I used to do a few days and 2 elderly woman used to berate me on the regular I must have one of those faces. The one women would say that's him he is a regular always here, the other one would chirp up about putting hooks in innocent animals. She seen the missis drop me off with the little one in the car and would say I was a **** parent out abusing animals instead of spending time with my daughter. I heard it all lol must be a sucker for punishment because I put my name on the waiting list for the syndicate

Its quite simple to understand, you can read into what I am saying....

Go onto the field sports channel on YouTube, there is a recent video, called Stop the Hate...

If you find what I have written confusing, I can't be any clearer..

Its is about someone doing a legitimate and legal pursuit, and not getting protection from the police,..

Would Anglers get any help in this situation..

Understand now....👍

Lets be fair it was a cryptic and bizzarely worded post.

Would have been easier to just state 'what you are saying' rather than ask people to 'read into' it.

Wow wow a little less of the condescension if you may lol

Didn't know what you was referring to never seen the YouTube channel before but like abit of pest control myself so a good one to watch out myself!

Agreed with your thoughts or where you were going with them anyway everyone nowadays seems to be proper snowflakes it's unbelievable poor bloke losing out on business and his reputation for other people simply having a difference in opinion!

I think that if these antis or whatever they are calling them get there way with this then I'm sure angling would not be too far out of their scopes, excuse the pun, as it would be seen as a sport causing the harm of animals!

Veganism ehh

You're right what you say..

My question is to anyone who watches that vid is would the police protect anglers if confronted by antis....

(I'm having trouble sending replies, adverts keep popping up,hence diction issue)

Unfortunately anti's seem to be on the increase again it's become trendy again. I guess it's linked to the rise in vegans and climate change.
If they consider farming animals in humane and a cause of climate change, us anglers will be tarred with the same brush as all field sports by the anti's.

That's quite shocking to watch.
I must say that i've only even known a few people that go shooting but i will say that they were as humane as they could be in what they did.
One lake i can remember being on the Canada Geese were a real problem because of the sheer number of them on a relatively small lake and all the muck they left everywhere.
So i can see the case that there is a time and a place when the numbers need to be controlled.

You could argue that you've just tarred all 'antis' with a same brush there fella.

There are degrees of support and opposition.

I love my fishing but I find the idea of a bunch of tw**s on horseback watching a pack of dogs tear a fox to pieces quite disgusting.

My dad's family were farmers and would shoot to control pests on their land. I think that's fair enough. I'm not into the idea of shooting animals for sport though.

I really feel for that guy his life ruined at the moment..
Thing is,that could be me,you or anyone on this forum, just because we fish...

A lot of of anglers are going to get a very rude awakening, especially those that see themselves apart from shooting and hunting..

Antis,lefties,do gooders they won't differentiate..

I urge everyone,if they can to watch that vid...

Maybe mal but there are plenty of things I disagree with but i wouldn't set out to abuse or intimidate anyone. We are all welcome to have our own beliefs, hobby's etc. But to abuse a man and his family because your beliefs are not the same as his is outrageous. What the bloke was doing was perfectly legal to receive threats to your life is out or order. In America it is illegal to obstruct hunters and it's taken very seriously. Unfortunately I don't think it will ever happen in this country.

I absolutely agree.

Abuse and intimidation is completely wrong.

I was making a more general point.

My only experience of getting it in the neck was when I was fly fishing from the bank of a river and this woman on a bloody huge horse approaches. Before I can say anything she shouts 'stop that now! ' ... I'm like, sorry what?

Her response from on high was 'stop doing that. The horse thinks it's a whip'

I politely pointed out that I wasn't the person who taught the horse what a whip was in the first place....

There is and will always be people like these who need a reason to complain or attack other people, the next thing these people will be complaining about to the local council is the amount of Goose **** there is around the area and can it be cleaned up as their west highland white Neville keeps rolling in it.

Just watched the film and feel for the bloke concerned. Were it me I would be make an immediate complaint against the officer that arrested me as he apparently did so without checking facts that could be easily investigated. If the complaint is thrown out I would take legal advice about seeking compensation ( and bring up this option during my initial meeting with the duty Inspector).

The law is the law and should be upheld fairly and not conceding to those that shout the loudest.

Trouble is, everybody seems to be looking for ways to be outraged nowadays. I blame the mobile phone or at least its ability to take pictures and films.

How about a cull on bloody lefty do-gooder holier than though vegan toss buckets?

As for post 16 - Classic

It will never happen in this country as majority of politicians won't go against the grain of the mainstream as they're petrified of any retribution against them affecting their standing in parliament

Worlds gone soft if you ask me! Not allowed to stand up for what you believe in else you a tarred as a sexist, racist, homophobic biggot. Need either let people be what they want to be without rubbing it in other faces and pushing their views on others or completely turn it in to a nanny state where no one is allowed to do anything

Enough politics from me anyway I'll stick to my muddy Wellies whilst we still can lol

You only need to look at the PETA website to see a glimpse at what future issues anglers could face. Under the heading ‘factbox' there is this: ‘Up to 43 per cent of fish released after being caught die within six days'. Also several other ‘facts' that are very misleading.

Personally i don't think angling is in any serious danger overall but i wouldn't be surprised if antis were to target fisheries at some point.

PETA,also are now stating we are not allowed to call our pets, pets, because this offends them....we are now to call pets companions,...

I asked my dog his opinion, and he went and sat by the door ,I opened it and he did a wee...!!!

PETA,don't underestimate them, they are well funded, organised and eat tofu.....😂

I hope he went outside the open door before he did his wee...

PETA had some good campaigns in the past. A fox's fur looks way better on his own back than draped around some rich blokes trophy wife....

But - as is happening predictably on this thread...

We don't like it when we are all lumped together, so we shouldn't do the same with those who have different opinions. Being opposed to animal cruelty and bloodsports doesn't make me a lefty, vegan, do-gooder, snowflake 'anti'. In the same way my enjoyment of angling doesn't make me a brutal, murdering, carnivore fascist...

There are some eloquent and articulate members on here and if we are to move forward in a society with changing attitudes, those are the voices we need to hear.

Possibly for certain individuals/groups involved in shooting for money & fun or pest controlling if asked by a non countryside enthusiast.

The Police see it as a waste of time, much easier for them to arrest one individual than have to call for backup to arrest a number of antis.
Shocking with regards the guys business but that's what some of these idiots are about along with the online faceless abuse.

Doubt they would get much joy if they turned up to some of the lakes I've fished past & present and I'm sure many others out there, a thick ear comes to mind!

We had an upsurge in anti's against angling back in the 80's. They did some coordinated protests on a few venues but the lone activists that targeted and tried to disrupt anglers, soon found it a danger sport of its own and were sent packing.

By the way, if you ever meet a female PETA member, please refer to her as 'Pet'..... just being friendly like.

It's Valentines Day everybody, spread the love, treat your partner well. I'm cooking mine a meal tonight and we are having roast Vegan - corn fed of course.

We are a country with the premise of rule of law. If someone has been legally wronged as you say, use the systems to right this, that are obvious and available.
I'd suspect from the post's on this thread there's a Countryside Alliance slant from some, possibly members. There are many overlapping area's between CA and angling. They're the area's that should be worked on. CA will never get the majority of anglers to support all their views. That's the reality. Far better to use Frenzy's otter approach if the CA want angling support in mutual area's of concern.

Happened in the 20's as well. Match on the Trent was targeted by PETA, some misguided activist wanted to get out of the water in my peg, the wife told her to do one, or it would get messy. the kind Police Sargent suggested she let him do that for her as he wasn't bothered about getting wet!

Just watched the video.
Poor chap, that's simply disgusting. He's on the brink of closing down his business because he lawfully controls Canada geese on private land? WTF?
