I'd agree, used one 30 years ago however I'd buy the deluxe version as you can put a 5 egg mix in.

Deluxe Gardner gun with the 5 mix triple nossel adapter.
Gardner deluxe all the way. The standard version would be fine if only using for small batches for hookbaits
Buy a caulking gun from screwfix or similar. The gardner deluxe one people mention on here is one of those with added carp tax.
It is more costly but I'd buy one again. In fact 15 years ago when things went south for me I ditched my original one as I had to scale my clutter down. Anyway bought another about 5-6 years ago because they are much better than those mastic guns.
So you have a choice. A cheap version which will do you well for single eggs mixes or the occasional 6 egg mix no problem and it's pretty cheap or if your going to be making more than the occasional mix then I'd say the gardner deluxe and if your going to do decent amounts of bait making then you should look as a compressed air gun.

I had a metal Gardner one, I think they did two versions at the time, a standard and a lower geared one, and the gun I have now for work is identical, apart from having more nozzle options to use as a pointing gun or an adhesive sausage gun
Mine looks the same as the gun at the bottom of sir Bs link

I use a Gardner deluxe gun, it does look very similar to the one in Sir B's link 
I've ordered a 5 mix 3 way adaptor after reading this thread as well, been meaning to get one for ages but keep forgetting, sounds like a good improvement!

i have the same / similar one to the link in post 12, got mine from tool station - a roughneck mortar gun. Very sturdy and will easily do a kilo of bait in no time.

A quick search and the Gardner one seems to be a Cox Ascot gun on sale for roughly the same price as the Gardner one. Don't know if it's any better than the cheapie ones though.

Ive had my "gardner" one for many years now and it is a cox gun. i only ever use it for small hookbait mixes and instead use compressor and airgun for anything bigger.

What nozzles are people using with the Screwfix mortar gun? Cutting down the disposable ones to size or do the Gardner nozzles fit/need an adapter?

Cut down the disposable ones, that way you can get them perfect for your mix. Some swell more than others when extruded so you may well have to cut the gardner ones anyway

As people have said if you google mortar gun or sausage gun for applying caulking or silicone they are the same as the Gardner gun. You can also get different sizes with regards to the tube, you can either use the witches hats and chop them down. You can also buy Gardner spares for Gardner that will fit, so if yo get the nozzle holder and nozzles it will fit the collar with that comes with the gun.
The plus to the witches hats is that you can cut them to the size and alter them to get the perfect size.
