Hay all, What Length Fluor leaders are people using attached to braided mainline ? Also what are people's favourite knot !

4-5 turns of leader on the reel ,length up the rod and down to the spigot ish

i use a albright knot,depending on how thick the flouro is depends on how many times up and and back down I go.
at the moment I'm using 45lb .57 snag leader and I'm going 3 up and 2 down to get the smallest knot possible,it beds down nice and I cant budge it once moistened and tightend down.
if the flouro was alot thinner in diameter I would go 5 up and 3 down.
3 or 4 turns on the reel and half the drop of the to the spigot is what I wind on the reel.

I use the 7 and 3 domhoff as it's the one I first leader knot I learnt.
I use an Albright for combos though lol

Nothing wrong with an Albright knot but I prefer a Yucatan knot. Purely because it's easier to work the thinner braid than thicker mono/flouro. Spider hitch is the knot I use for the initial loop

FG or Albright for me, non slip/lefty loop to bimini twist if I need a loop to loop
I don't use shockleaders though, just 6-8ft at the business end.

I always use an Albright knot when joining braid to mono or flouro it just works

A great skipper out of Grand Bai Mauritius, Benoir Deunvlle taught me the knot in 92. Still struggle to this day with it, hands elbows knees fingers everything gets involved when I tie it
So stick to the spider hitch on the bank.

Why are you using a fluoro leader when 20lb Amnesia sinks like a stone and is about 200% more reliable?

Rather than start a new thread let's dig up an old one eh

How long would you go with a fluoro leader and still feel confident that the top bead would come off when fishing heli style?

Reason I ask is I only usually use about 7ft but had an incident the other day where the fish went through heavy weed then maybe over a bar and the braid went just above the leader, so thinking a longer length would have probably prevented this, but how long would you go and still feel happy that it's safe?

Oh and I should add I'm using a boat so casting/leader knot is not an issue

Mahin (carrott) knot. it is the best braid mainline to fluro leader knot out there. there is a good how to on the gardner website

in terms of length of leader and beads, it shouldn't really make a difference if the bead is free running enough?

Figured I'd ask her instead of starting a new post, I have been using fluro leaders to sinking braid for a while for short range (up to 40 yards) but today I was fishing 98 yards and I had multiple frap ups which resulted in two crack offs obvious I hate leaving tackle out in the lake. I used a Albright knot and a mahin knot had the same problem with both, I always put the reel against a bank stick to test the knot for strength which i did with both. The knot broke both times at the very start of the fluro the knot was still intact. With the Albright and mahin normally go 8 times up and 5 or so back down. Just wondering If I'm doing something wrong feels like the knot is catching on the cast.

I use an improved albright but i use a shorter leader than most around 12-15ft as im not using it as a casting leader.

when casting my knot isnt on the spool just off it so it cannot snatch or grab as it leaves the spool on the cast, the sinking braid is more than strong enough to take the force of my cast, i haven't had a knot fail or frap up using the leader like this

Thank you Woody for the reply, I changed fluro both are 25lb but the new one I am using is a lot more supple and a little thinner. Just went out tonight tied a normal Albright knot to the new leader same lenght as before just tied a lead without a rig and made 25-40 cast all hitting the clip with zero issues. Guess I just used the wrong fluro before you could hear the leader go through the rings on the cast and retrieval with this new fluro nothing.

ive moved over to the fg knot this year and wont be going back.
Bought the bobbin to help tie it and once done a few i can knock one up quickly. They last ages as well.

FG knot for me too. I've had a few mahins slip in the past. I'm yet to have this issue with an FG.
