OK venue for a few runs but does get busy.
Lots and lots of mid doubles and there are definitely a few cats still in there, although not sure how big they would go as the one I caught was only about 12 ounces!!

biggest cat last yr was just over 90lb...quite a few 20 - 40lb'ers
it can get busy, but mid week is normally quiet....far end of the dam seems to produce the bigger carp and some massive hits....the arm does fish well but the swim are a little tight...great for a social, but can get a bit conflicting if strangers are on.
The arm does exceptionally well this time of yr as the carp tend to move down there to spawn....2 lads had over 50 carp in a few day to scrapper 20 last week.....
fish are in great condition and for few runs its a nicer place than other types of waters like that.
Bait....well....they will eat anything and everything...all I will say is you'll need a lot of it to hold them....as when they turn up...they TURN UP
I bailiff it for Harry to help him out now and again

If you can go midweek Foxes i would go then as it gets a bit busy at weekends, i have only been for the one 24hrs this year and it was a friday after work and to be honest it got busy, only went a few times last year and went mid week, was pretty much empty

As said mate only fished it once this year, bt fished it a few times last year with a mate who was just getting back into it, i found personally that night and early morning was the time they seemed to get on the munch, but you can catch also during the day.

That is some pinch of salt, biggest I have heard of is mid twenties, but I hear it is now getting a lot of pressure and fish are moving off at range and given you cant fish all the way round could make it interesting in the future. But they do seem to respond to good bait when presented with it

just back from bailiffing...
mid dam 2 chaps had over 20 fish to 22 ish...end of dam (right side) chaps had 7 to 19 odd

I have seen a few caught from there, mainly cats get round by that sunken tree but also the odd carp, to be honest you did not fish the best area, but definately the shortest walk lol.
If your ever down again, let me know and i will point you into some decent swims.

if you fish the left hand one of those swims you need to wade out as far as you can....you can get out 70/80 yrd..its very shallow against the island

Not fished there for a couple of years now, but personally found the dam wall best to fish from - bit of a pain to get a bivvy up but may have changed since - we're just putting wooden stages down the last time I went

I have put a full bivvy up on the dam wall, no bother
Basically, you do lose the back end of your bivvy on the slope, but more than enough room to have a bedchair in, bag etc and leave enough room for the nutty cyclist from the boat house to get past.

week in week out bivvies are placed along the dam...there is more room for bivvies on top of dam wall at the carp park end....but...a simple one man bivvy fits ok on the rest of the dam..
when the water level drops you can get a bivvy anywhere
when water levels are up, the swims on left of dam on round to the left into the arm have plenty of space.
there are plans in place to cut out and construct swims all the way round the arm and the opposite side of the arm

Im just back from there, visited a mate who fished overnight,, water is up but not totally full, he was only one on lake last night and had around 5 runs in total.

Water way down and i mean down so much so we were fishing on the resy bed lol needed the Barrow to get the gear down there without having a heart issue !
Fish will be in less water as was pointed out by a friend but i still blanked although it was mega windy and casting any further that 20 yards was a bust :(
I tried maggotts.
I tried Tuti Fruity, Strawberry & Chocolate boilies popped up on ta bottom...Nowt
I did get a 6/7 bleeps once and jumped on it but nowt there and i was backleaded on all rods with 10g weights on the indicators to stop falsies..
You can see from the picture i hope had appeared in the post how far down the level is, I reckon 6-7 ft from where i was holed up to the water line dam side.

Me and a mate went about 6 weeks ago for a social trip....paid for 2 nights but pulled off after one....it was an absolute circus. 8 anglers crammed on the point within 50-60 yards of each other, all fishing 3 rods....there was a gap to my mate just down the arm of about another 40 yards and the final straw for us was someone setting up in that final gap without even having the courtesy to ask where we were fishing....the place really is a joke.
New rules however have been introduced and there are supposed to be markers down now 20 yards apart....(still not enough) to mark out "swims" along with a 2-rod limit. Will these rules make a difference, probably not!
Good luck if you go down, it's rammed full of fish and has got reasonable winter form but whilst it is run how it is I wont go again..

I must agree with spod on this - its local to me and I try my best not to go but I ended up on a social earlier in the year
for a place that is huge you can only fish from around half when the water is very low and a quarter if high
the dam wall is a nightmare - there must be a 10ft drop to the water from the boards when the water is low, you have to walk down the rocks to land fish
the left arm is ok if you can get on there - this is always rammed - if quiet this is actually ok
the far side is ok, good barrow ride with a doggy bridge to try and get the barrow over - very muddy when the water has just gone to low.
Had the same as spod, we had 5 of us prob what should be 3 pegs so was already close together but I left a small gap ( not a swim's worth ) to the person on the right to me as I was on the end of our social - yep someone set up in there. - reckon on the far side there must of been 10 anglers all with 3 rods in no more than 1/2 acres of water
not my seen really, there are some lumps in there now - its become trickier I am told, you must fish distance now from what the baliff said and that did come true, some of our groups could not get 25 wrap plus so and they didn't have anything, anyone over 25 wraps caught

I booked on for my first trip there, thought I'd try midweek so it was less busy, rung to book on at 2 in the afternoon and was told there was only a handful on. I was invited on a social over there last year. I very nearly turned round myself on seeing the place, absolute mayhem, but we went walkies right round to the furthest point on the far side and got left alone. Ended up having great fun, 27 fish in a night, although I do remember swearing I'd never return lol.....

you can have some right good hauls on there, a friend fishing it regular and he has some very good sessions
If I put it against stanwick for example, that can get rammed too, but feels better and quality of fish is a lot better plus don't have a mile walk to the far side with the barrow ! lol

You say that bud, and I agree the fish are a million miles nicer, but last time I was at Stanwick (again, on a social) I had a bucket and a rod sleeve nicked, there was a 5 ft fire built opposite by a bunch of piss heads shouting their heads off all night, I was asked if I could get any weed, I had another bucket moved from a swim I reserved while I fetched my kit from the car, and I couldn't get near the fish lol.....
Not slagging the place, I have a soft spot for the complex having visited on-and-off for many years, but just goes to show though.....

From what I saw on the Facebook page you got a fair bit of abuse.
On the other hand you did blatantly break the 2 rod rule and drive where you shouldn't. Regardless of reasons.
theyve done a saving face post and now you have. Can we move on? Most people avoid the place because of the antics that go on there...

Some of comments were a bit out of order. I assume he got some private messages too.
I think what riled everyone up was the fact he posted pics to the Facebook page. Surely if you have such a terrible time through your own doing and end up in hospital you just keep it quiet?
That's my take. Unnecessary to have been a public issue.

I'm intrigued, you broke down on your way back from a winter carp fishing session and then managed to get hyperthermia, did you not think of maybe putting on your fishing gear and/or using your cooking gear to keep warm after all you were surely prepared to go fishing in that weather?

That did cross my mind whilst reading this mate but, i think he said he's like Bear Grylls? So, winter fishing clothes and a stove wouldn't fit that image possibly?

I had a puncture on the way out, the AA were suppose to come and sort my van for me, I called a bailiff for help, he didn't seem interested in my problem, I asked where is the nearest garage, and where can I get fuel. he refused to help. I eventually got a good friend of mine to come and tow me to the road near to the A14, where I sat for three hours in the cold, I phoned my wife for help but she was at work, I got worse and had to call 999 for an ambulance, they rushed me into Northampton DGH suffering from extreme exposure to the cold, I can't spell hypotheria lol!
A good friend left you on the side of the A14?? With mates like that you don't need enemies! Oh and did you run out of fuel after or before you had a puncture?

Thanks mate, i just like to make things a bit more fun, lighten the mood etc.
I have stacks of them, originally i bought a thing called “SmileyPad” it was only a couple of quid. It was basically a folder that came with lots of smileys, all hosted by the developer.
So when on a web site, you could open the pad, and click on a smiley, and it would appear in your post.
Eventually the developer couldn't afford the hosting, and to keep it working, i used Photobucket to host them. It was only when Photobucket went west that i remembered them, i'm slowly moving them over to ImgBB now. No pad to keep them in now though, somebody should re develop it.

I'm sorry but how does wearing clothing appropriate to the conditions make you look like a rapist? I don't know much about survival training however I do have a modicum of common sense, maybe when you look back at your story you will realise that you made quite a few basic errors, especially considering that apparently you can look after yourself.
Next time you go fishing for 2/3 days make sure you take spare dry clothes and enough gas and fuel, even if you leave them in the car, would have been ideal in this case wouldn't it?
Just remember the Six Ps of Planning – Prior Planning & Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. You can add a couple of extra P's in there if you want the forces version!
