Yes, I am so used to laying a spod gently on the surface I find it hard to change my style of casting. I will have to re-spool with 50lb braid, as you say learning to stop with you hand also ,probably need a glove on both hands to avoid cuts. Letting it continually hit any clip hard is not going to do the clip or braid any good.

I find the TFG Airbomb finicky, one minute it works a treat, then for love or money it does not want to play, and when it does not want to play, I'm stumped as to why not. Sometimes I will bend the hook to adjust it and it works perfectly, but later on it stops working again. Maybe casting style changes now and then, maybe not casting hard enough etc
One thing I do know is it's better to stop the line with your hand with the rod on a low angle to get it opening more consistently. I sometimes think if the rod is held pointing high, the bend in the rod can cushion the shock you need for it to open with that sudden stop you need. As for using my hand, the thought of constantly walloping the clip on the spool will have long term effects of damaging the reel used for spodding eventually.

Thanks all. I will take on board all suggestions and give it another go in future. Nash air bomb will be last resort.

I use 30lb tf gear banana braid straight and have never had it snap

I wouldn't go as low as 20lb braid with a airbomb or a dot spod air as they both work best when hitting the clip hard.
I use 40lb daiwa j braid and heavier leader on my spod reel and can use the airbomb well at upto around 100yds further than that i revert back to a normal spomb

Not used mine for ages but never had an issue with it not opening . Just make sure you hit the clip pretty hard

60 yards. I have 20lb spod braid ,with a 50lb armakord leader,which works fine for spods and spomb. Should I go to 50lb straight through, and be a bit more brutal on the cast? I didn't think of cutting down the fused leader, but it makes sense, I'll try it.

I've been using one since they were released a few years ago I just use my finger to stop the braid and the air bomb opens every time

As woody said you need to hit the clip quite hard so make sure you have a good strong braid and have the rod at 45degrees when you hit the clip.
I have used the standard and the smaller one for pellets and boiles and got them to open 19 out of 20.
I used 50lb braid straight through.
What range are you using it at ?

I have used them for a while in particular the smaller of the two i find great to give a spread of boilies.
You may find you have to cast it harder than you would a spomb and hit the clip quite hard, something that may help you is to shorten the fused leader and something else is not to over fill it as it could stop the opener from releasing.
I bought one of the nash dot spods in standard size to try i prefer the airbomb i found the nash one more erratic and didnt fly as true

I've been trying to use this but only managed to get it to open as intended once. I gave up after half a dozen attempts. Does anyone know how to make it open every time. I see Nashy is bringing one out. I will try that and probably bin the TFG. Too frustrating.
