If you get over to Chalong bay on route is Chalong Fishing Park, run by Jez (English) nice bloke, some lovely restaurants on that side too (if you haven't been already)
EDIT, Chalong Fishing Park, his wife and mum (Thai) make the food, it's fab, nice little bar too, don't have to fish.

Thanks Vossy. We are not there anymore. Flew out of there a few days ago, elsewhere now. From early December we were in Phuket old town. Then Christmas & new year in one of the resorts on Phi Phi islands.
We really had the most incredible time. So stupidly beautiful & we were so lucky with the weather for the whole month. Maya Bay where they filmed that DiCaprio movie 'the beach'. Monkey Island. Pileh lagoon. Banana beach. I had zero interest in fishing whatsoever mate.
I always take a couple of travel rods when I'm away, but did not fish once this time. To much stunning scenery & amazing beaches to vegetate on.

They shut Maya shortly after we went, you shoukd have seen it
...soo many boats and people swimming in the fuel slicks :-x ..glad we got there early before the madness!
Edit, my friend arrived in Krabi for 3 months last Tuesday, luckily he's a Thai GF so gets to see a lot of stuff the tourist don't....Lucky bugger.

Thanks Vossy. Only the Pileh lagoon photo is edited out of those. This is one below with the boats not removed. I have an iPhone 17 pro max which has AI on it to remove stuff like that. I'm useless with it but the missus knows her stuff. We were out on the islands so went really early before it got manic. Everyone else is getting the speedboats or the ferry from Phuket mainly, but it still takes them 45 minutes (speedboat) or two hours (ferry) to get there & first speed boat leaves at 8:30am. We would be on the beaches at first light. It was so bloody hot (34-37c) the mornings were much better anyway.
Maya Bay, we never went near 'the beach'. The queue to go to the beach from behind was just stupid. Sod that. The photos you see in Maya Bay like this one below the boats are not allowed in there anymore. So we are on a rope on the outside of the bay looking over at the very famous beach. It's totally protected now. All the boats are lined up to our left. To be fair there was only five or six. But if you look over the missus shoulder you can see the masses on the famous beach.
My missus is not Thai mate.
Long beach on Phi Phi.
