Hi everyone,
Primarily I'm a carp angler but fancy getting into a bit of perch fishing.
Can anyone recommend a cheapish/budget set up to get me going?
Seen plenty of really cheap rods and reels, but equally dont want to buy anything that will break in 2 secends.
I've seen a shimano reel for 17.99 which looks ok (still open to others that may be as good but cheaper), any idea on rods, drop shot/lure kit, net?
Any help appreciated

Thanks for your reply.
Ive done abit more research and managed to find a Daiwa rod and reel combo.
Looking at various other bits and pieces. Once complete and can finally get out and put it to practice

It's a slippery slope
Re end tackle have a look at drop shot kits thet come with everything you need.
I know most people go straight through but consider a weak link to the lead, hopefully won't lose the lot then
Worth a look at Glasgow Angling, some good prices on drop shot stuff in the sales.

I trod this path last year and got some really good korum stuff which was reasonably priced compared to the fox range stuff.
I would also say worth getting some jig heads as better way of finding the fish/shoal... then move to a drop shot once you have found them.

I made the mistake of looking at the Outlaw Pro predator sale, arriving today 13 packets of various Perch things for £26 delivered
A lot of the Korum Snapper range on clearance at £1.50 a pack of 6(in my case), some Fox Rage at £2.99.
How long is this slippery slope.....

Try future fishing at newark or tackle UK.
You can get a rod for £25 Korum ,Shakespeare & HTO all do rods in that bracket.
Braid, Flourocarbon, few jig heads and lures, net and small mat and some unhook gear will get you going. Dont get starter kits -they are usually pants but i know Tony and lads at Future could sort you out a great deal if ask.

Sorry to change subject can anyone tell me why I have a jig head in tackle box melting it's leaked oil over everything and now doesn't look like a fish anymore I am a beginner jig fishing just thinking am I doing something wrong thanks for any opinions

Also had this - different chemicals in the plastics react with each other, Zman's elaztech plastic are particularly good at "eating" other plasctics.
Best to store them in seperate plastic bags..

That's exactly it. Also, don't leave hooks/jig heads in those baits and some others as some are impregnated with salts that will eat hooks and damage leads.
Some of my packets Korum Floatex and Fox Creatures say store in packet only (I confirmed that with Korum/Pure). The lures aren't even safe in some tackle boxes. I mistakenly put 1 in my slimline plano, within 4 hours it was tacky and turning to mush!
Annoying really, I hate packets loose in my bag. The Fox Creature packs are hole punched to go in the fox wallet but the wallet is being discontinued. Anyone have a good way of organising these packets? At the mo I'm thinking tall tupperware!

I've got another load on the way, last lot here in 3 days, this lot not even processed in 3 days....hope you've not nicked them all
Might be a good shout to have a separate soft box. It does make me wonder if they're even safe in the same tackle bag as others if not sealed.

Only had a couple of packets of each colour and size 'Squirmz'. Usually buy all my softs from AGM and I'd rather give them my money than AD, but 60p was too good to ignore!

I had a quick look round before af the Elaztech proof stuff, most seem to be ways of carrying the packs whole like the Plano KVD or 3700 worm boxes. Then there's the z man bait blockz and their price, good god!

Could try small resealable bags (off ebay)
I buy varying sized bags so carry small lures up to 2" in 1 x larger resealable bag and within could have 10 x smaller bags for diff makes/colours and then another larger bag for 2"-4 " etc , creature baits, floating baits and so on.
Stores my jig heads and drop shot weights likes this too. Its neat, and light, they dont clatter in boxes and easily identified. Easy to take out the sizes you dont want for the venue too and store in car.
I take a small box while fishing and chuck about 10 lures i may use that day alone (easy to access)
I have had them go to mush/leach against other colours. best to keep them out of the light and away from warm sources.
