I'm thinking of getting the mk 2 Solar sp c-tech sleep system and have some questions which hopefully current owners could answer .
Can someone tell me the season rating when the outer bag is taken off ?
What is the weight of the system with the outer bag taken off ?
Is the outer only waterproof when in full 5-season mode - ie, if the outer bag is taken off is it still waterproof ?

I believe it's a 3 season / 5 season split... Depending on which of the bag or bag(s) you have zipped on. It also has a "fitted sheet" type thing going on

Both bags are made of the same material, so I would assume their waterproof rating is the same?
It's a heavy bed and built like a tank. But my god it's comfortable, and I'm someone who would ordinarily hate memory foam.
No complaints! I lucked out and got one for £350, but would probably have paid RRP for one now I've had chance to appreciate it's comfort.

You got the standard or wide? I have a wide version of the previous model and debating getting rid for the standard just for a bit of extra room, weight saving.

I currently use a fox flatliter mk 2 which weighs in at 13.5kg plus about 3kg for the thermal cover . I believe the solar is 19 something kgs so about 3kgs more fully loaded . As I'd probably only use the outer bag autumn / winter it would mean for the spring / summer it would be considerably lighter .

It's 90cm wide...and is a bit taller than my previous bed.

as above its 3 + 2 season although i got mine in may and took off the top section straight away and tbh even just the 3 season section is too hot, only the top 2 season section is waterproof as i found out after leaving a window up during a big downpour lol... luckily it was the foot end and wasn't too bad.
I suppose you maybe could just zip on the the top 2 season waterproof section but not certain.

Is it possible to remove both bag sections and then just zip the 2 season section back on?
A 3 season bag would be way too hot for me at this time of year.
I'm currently using a Fox Duralite which I have a 1 season summer bag for so I'm looking for something similar ideally.

As it happens I've also got a Duralite. You won't be disappointed with the solar (apart from the difference in weight)

Sleeping bags aren't rated in seasons anymore. Everyone is different when it comes to whether or not they run hot or cold. The bed is the best bed ive ever used by along way. I've slept comfortably down to zero degrees in the single layer. With the outer layer on id be able to sleep down to temperatures that would be pointless fishing in as the lake would be frozen. If you have bad circulation then it would be perfect. It's heavy but I have gotten my wide version on my barrow so depends on how fit you are on how you can transport it. Ive used it sleeping in the back of my van when im working away and it very comfortable. Wouldn't buy any other brand of chair or bed now.

Just weighed mine as on a weight limit for a france trip, the system without the outer 2 season section weighed 17.5kg, yes heavy but very comfortable

I went from a Flatliter Mk2 Std to the standard size solar MF some months ago. Here are my thoughts:
The Solar is slightly wider but not noticeably, however the bag does seem to have more room in it.
The bag on the solar is significantly lighter than the bag on the fox. The fox bag was like the single layer on the Solar, I had the separate Aquos cover which was very bulky but very warm, the double layer on the Solar is probably a little less warm than the Fox bag plus cover but significantly less bulky and heavy. I've not done the winter in the Solar so time will tell if its warm enough.
The Solar is significantly higher, to the point where I will try and figure out how to shorten the legs when I get some time to look at it. I don't like a super low bed but it is very, very high. Only benefit is you can get plenty underneath it. It doesn't fit under a conventional brolly very well either which is a problem for me.
The Solar bed is way, way more comfortable than the Fox. I used to have a self inflating mattress on mine in-between the bed and bag which improved it but the Solar MF is a different level entirely.
The solar bed is quite a bit heavier and takes up a bit more room on the barrow, it is quite noticeable.

Thanks for the reply, I'd recently been looking at the fox Flatliner X all season but mate bought the Solar bedchair only and sez it's very comfortable so I've ended up looking at the sleep system for comfort on longer seasons ( like you wrong side of 50)
Don't think the height would bother me as I've always nearly got the legs extended
Think I'd keep my Flatliter along with both covers as one lake I fish I've to carry the bedchair to the lake over a couple of trips

Interesting, I was veering toward the Flatliner because of images of second hand Solar beds with significant sag, the thought being if I still have to use a sim, which is the lighter bed to use it on...hmm.

I ended up getting the sp c tech sleep system in standard . I've used it once so far and my initial thoughts are that it is really comfy . With the two bags I'd imagine it to be not quite as warm as my old mk2 flatliter plus thermal cover but looks as though it would be warm enough . Definitely wider and quite a bit heavier but as I barrow my gear this isn't a problem . I would say that the only negative thing would be the height . When the front isn't on my tempest it's not a problem but as soon as this is zipped on it's difficult to see out without ducking your head whilst sitting on the bed . Not quite sure why it needs to be quite so high but I guess I'll get used to it . Would I swap back to the mk2 flatliter plus thermal? No ,the comfort and build quality are second to none on the solar .

Is it possible to store your pillow inside when you fold it up, I can get 2 pillows and fox bivvy table in the Flatliter with the standard Aquos cover on

I believe you are correct regarding the bags but stand to be corrected . The top is waterproof but the bottom isn't . I have my fox pillow and bivvy table folded up inside - it's tight but doable.

Bought this bed and used it for the first time this weekend....comfy but it's cold in the bottom layer I am getting an electric blanket to take the chill out of the bottom sheet material
