Anyone play on here? Started playing after lockdown last year and amazed how addictive, frustrating and expensive (!) it is. Loving it right now to be fair. Play every week with a group of 3 friends, looking to join our first club soon and work towards a handicap.

Play off of 8. Do you mean expensive buying the gear? Shouldn't be expensive after that.

Edit: Unless you use Pro V 1's and lose a lot of balls

The gear has cost me over the last year, started with a cheap set and loved the game so upgraded to some Callaway Rogue irons, just sorted a matching 3W and driver. See its as an investment as will keep going now. No pro V1's for me yet, might as well throw pound coins in the bushes!

Give it time and you'll be getting fitted out for made to measure clubs (it does make a difference)

Google Lake Balls, buy the A Grades, saves money buying new., most only been hit the once.

Not played for 4 years or so. Played Ingon Manor many moons ago and on the last hole I had about 180 yards to the green from out of the rough. Hit a 5 iron out of it to the left which sadly headed into the direction of the pro shop. Me and my mate couldn't cover our eyes quickly enough but nevertheless had a peek or two as the ball headed for the roof. As it hit the roof a few tiles fell off and it was left to me to drive the buggy up as my mate held back. They came out of the pro shop and I couldn't apologise enough but they were fantastic, so much so that the club pro asked me if I was coming tomorrow as he would put mother in law up there. There was a collection pot in the shop for cancer research so I put £20 in.....By this time my mate had caught up with me and after we had left the pro shop my ball after taking off a few tiles had landed around 25 feet from the cup. Needless to say I missed the putt for birdie.

I once knifed a ball out of a bunker on the 18th of a very nice course, it wedged in the front grill of a Mercedes in the adjacent car park.

I used to play about 15 years ago. 4 of us went over to France to play for the day a couple of times. It used to us £15 each including tunnel. I picked up the clubs a couple of weeks ago to see if the kids liked it and I was terrible and I was never any good before hand I used to just enjoy the walk and challenge. It did go to show though the more you practice the better you get I didn't really notice that when I was playing.

Coming down the 18th after hitting a nice tee shot at uttoxeter golf club I found myself with a down hill lie. Took out a 7 iron and pushed it to the left where the door was open to the bar. Anyhow, I get to the door and after asking if they'd seen my ball they had sat it up in all it's glory on a beer mat on the table....I took a free drop just outside the door and after many of laughs about it I was a bag of nerves playing a chip shot of about 40 yards but fortunately played it lovely to within 3 feet and sunk the putt thereafter.

Not played any golf for nearly 20 years at a guess I've still got my old Wilson clubs though, in my case it was right what they say "a good walk was spoiled" most of the time I was average at best, I used to knock around the nine hole municipal course for a bit of enjoyment or up the driving range for an hour or two never played any prestigious courses.

I'm not too sure if this story is true or not, but apparently one of the lads who use to be in our Sunday golf society was also a member in a Saturday society...
He was playing with the Saturday society......It was a lovely sunny day and after the golf they was sinking a few cold ones, on the patio outside the club house.
The patio was located behind a lake which had the 8th green on the other side....he said some bloke come steaming towards the lake from the 8th green, grabbed his golf bag and flung it as far as he could into the lake, next was the trolley...he then stormed off to the car park...everyone was having a chuckle thinking that was a bit much..... 5 mins later the bloke retuned, took his shoes and socks off and rolled up his trousers, waded into the lake ....apparently he had left his car keys in one of the pockets on his golf bag....

Not Weald of Kent was it as I heard almost the same story .
Difference is he never came back after lobbing the lot in the lake



I used to play regular as my boss from work wanted to take up the game so I skived with pay 3 times a week .He became rather good even better than me after a few lessons to correct his swing .
I got invited to a lot of company golf days , pukka courses , good food after and a good drink .
Then the boss and his mates who owned firms went on a beano to Spain I went as well , 36 holes every day it was fun and enjoyable .
Trouble was I fished and has some expensive tickets and the wife commented on how much dosh I was getting through .
She said golf or fishing you can't do both .

Needless to say what got binned 🫢

As a 8 year old kid my publican parents got the dream job to run a clubhouse of at the time very exclusive golf club. Was around the time Faldo one a major so guessing mid to late 80s. Any way I was having lessons 3 time a week with the golf pro, probably in hindsight I should have followed it though but on the same course was a fishing lake. The golf club was around in the 1700s and the lake had been there since day one. Dont really know where I'm going with this story but I'm guessing the fact I'm posting on carp forum and not a 3 times major winner probably reels you which past time I prefer
