It doesn’t happen often but there are times in my fishing (always when I have a couple of weeks holiday) when I am at a water that I know well anyway, and I feel I am really tuned in to the carp stock; know where the bulk of them are, or are going to be at certain times, what the most effective tactics are and I can work to take advantage of this set of circumstances.
I don’t do long sessions (they bore me), but all my waters are close enough that I can do plenty of short productive trips, bait a couple of spots, go home to replenish, sort out bits and pieces and get back down there and have a few more.
It’s just like; baits working, rigs are working and I know where to put them.
The rest of the time I am largely using educated guesswork and a bit of watercraft but the “In tune” times are when it all comes together.
Oh, and it is always in the Autumn, Sept/Oct which is why I book my jollies then.

Back in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's I would fish Wednesday and Friday nights, sometimes Monday as well. This was almost every week of the year. A season almost felt like one long session, constantly trickling bait into a few swims and resting the swim(s) Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Obviously I was totally obsessed and probably a shade mental (still am).

I’ve also found that the less anglers at a water the quicker you get in tune with the water. The same can apply if there’s only a few anglers on but only if there’s minimal disturbance.

Yeah, I am thinking much more of the quieter venues.....however in tune you are, it can all go Pete Tong if you are prevented from taking full advantage by other anglers, possibly doing a similar thing.....or just pressurising the fish and influencing their behaviour.

Winter..I get that.............. but Autumn is so much quieter..happy days! I think schools and colleges going back in Sept. has a lot to do with it on club waters that has a mix of angler types.

I need to be fishing regularly for this to happen.
