I saw a video by Stoglemans last week stating he was dropping his boilie range as the cost of some of base mix ingredients he uses was now too much.
Full fat GLM had doubled and is now £60 a kilo
WPC80 is now £19 a kilo
CPSP pdfm £12 a kilo
LT94 £7.50 a kilo
Madness!
Surely companies can't absorb these hikes. Does this mean more companies will disappear? If not supplier doesn't increase their prices you would have to worry about the bait quality.

I'd imagine there will be fewer and fewer hnv baits being made, even by home rollers. The price of pellets will probably skyrocket as well.

AA baits are recommending why gel as a replacement for WPC80 as they aren't stocking once their current stock is sold

Nope. Only a home roller would be seeing this creeping up over the last year or two, even filler ingredients aren't cheap anymore. Just being a home roller is bad enough. For my fishmeal baits, My last few kilo's of WPC80 were £24 to 26.60 per kilo from Bacarel, (human grade stuff) my bait is proven, but not cheap to use in the decent amounts.
Companies will only absorb so much to still maintain a profit margin, it's a business after all. Or companies like AA Baits have no choice but to raise prices to the end customer, or stop supplying certain expensive ingredients.
Or potentially the other options people or businesses have, stop production ( like nashbait ) or find different supplier/s, or maybe cut the 'bait' with other cheaper ingredients/less fancy powders/liquids to meet the margin or requirement.

I was perusing AA Baits website yesterday, CPSP fishmeal is back in stock.
£11 per single kilo... £9.50 on 2.5kg, £8 /5kg, £6.60 /25kg £5.20/ 100kg....£4.65 on the tonne.
The issue is the mark up for splitting sacks into a small bags, useable DIY quantities.
£4.40 to weigh and seal a 1kg bag.
Grumble over.

Not rolled bait in about 30 odd years. So we'll out the loop on the cost of ingredients. I can see a lot of company's going back to using a lot of the cheaper fishmeal out there. The ones with the higher Ash content. Provimni Maybe even the stuff that's used for fertiliser. Maybe some company's already do. Even that's probably getting expensive.
Quick question for you home rollers. As mentioned the last fishmeal bases bait i rolled would of probably been the old Premier Fish Base mix which a believed was made with a Sardine & Anchovy meal.
My question is would you be able to tell if your bait contained a quality Fishmeal? By actually looking at it.Like the LT or pre digested.😀

Probably not, not likely to dip my finger into a bag and taste it but years ago I might have theorised.
The blurb always used to say high quality fishmeals including LT-94 and PDFM..didt say how much.
14-15 years ago I preferred S&A over LT94, and even back then shortages meant that LT prices had spiked
Not that I hadn't or didn't use LT94 but only at 7.5 with S&A , I thought what was available to be very pale and dry in the mix.

Re: old skool Premier Fishbase. due to costs, and supply nowadays, I very much doubt that any so called 'fishmeal' base mix or ready made bait contains 50% fishmeal nowadays, let alone 25% quality milk proteins 😱 most are rather pale ( less fishmeal , some are possibly as low as 10-25% fishmeal content ) this maybe due to being classed as a more all season bait... cough cough.
You cannot get Capelin meal anymore, I can only go on what I've personally used, but I rate the smell and taste of AA Baits Premium Salmon meal, as a close second choice.

This Salmon based fishmeal is of a higher quality than most standard fishmeals, being of higher meat quality and treated at reduced temperatures thus maintaining protein structure and content. At 67% protein level this is a great addition to any bait. Please be aware this darker coloured salmon meal is much higher quality than many available, the lighter coloured meal contains a much lower % of actual salmon and a higher % of white fishmeal.
Their newly sourced Sardine & Anchovy (LT) is a slightly darker fishmeal, that's quite nice as well, Good reliable service from them as always.

Lower levels really, 25% with 8% milks, acid caesin ( Bacarel) and WPC- thank goodness for online fitness protein discounts.
Wish matey had given me the hydro-whey a few months earlter, might have been interesting.
Had it been available I'd have used some PD but seemed to work well enough with Brocacel and liver.
And yeah for sure even though I used HP milks final cost was heavily involved, £3 & pence 15 years ago v £6 per kilo of base now.
Same old protein ratios just less.

Nice. Like you, I have to keep an eye on the finished costs, ingredient and P+P to get smaller quantities, and real egg prices nowadays!

Bumped into a chap I'd known for a while but lost touch with after he moved, gave me his card- heating, plumbing..'The Egg Man'.
I bought a few trays, cracked them into zip-lock bags and froze in lots for 1.5kg of base.

Yes home rollers will be hit first but surely it will hit the bait makers in 6-12 months time when they run out of their current stock
If bait companies prices don't go up in the next 12 months surely it's a sign they are cutting down on quality ingredients

Bacarel don't have sports protein type discounts, by the kg 1, 2, 3+, 5+ or full sacks, prices up and down dependant on supply, Frecnh, Irish or functional properties.
I haven't seen the same level of discounting for a while, obviously prices are artificailly high and rising ,the discounts are bait.
Dropped on a late night 50% flaah sale, a valid 10% voucher purely by chance, free post £28 for 2.5kg of unflavoured WPC..
Its about £90 less whatever weekly discount at Myprotein now.
Bacarel's various whey proteins have been in and out of stock, but it seemed that if they were out of stock so were AA or very near to.
Early in the year their 1kg x 3+ prices were better considering they included shipping.
I bought caesins, caesinates, albumen and soya isolate, 12 months+ shelf life, double bagged👍
Enough for this year and scrimping through next year.
The way things are going it'll be pellets and pop-ups the year after.
Last time I compared the two standard WPC80 was around £19/kg posted with little leaway on 2 or 3 kg but AA was 18 plus post. Oragel was higher.
Swings and roundabouts, caesins, albumen were cheaper whilst others like whole egg and pea protein isolate were higher.
If you were inclined to share 25kg sacks of short/extended shelf life or cat C caesins which they sold for fishing bait, it worked out at £6-8 per kg
