I'm surprised that carp fishing hasn't taken a leaf out of the sea anglers book when it comes to distance fishing.

In practice, could/would pulley rigs incorporating splashdown/gemini arc leads be a more streamline alternative to helicopter rigs? or will having (essentially) a three foot hooklink put people off? It could even be a way of presenting zig rigs...

Back in the day, my memories fading, but was it Frank Warrick (or rumoured to be) who used sea fishing bait shields on helicopter rigs to streamline the bait/baits?
I remember dabbling with them, tying the hooklink to the leader (so much for helicopter) along with a stringer behind the shield.

Gemini splash downs work well, used them on the beach, not sure how they'd be with small hooks but very effective & reliable.

we used sea/beach fishing tactics in France 30 years ago to good effect. On big waters and long range it was a huge difference if you used these plastic wings in front of long wing leads. The leads would raise to the top within a few metres when winding in and tangles in tree stumps or weed were very effectively avoided. Worked also well on big rivers so as not to get stuck in the rocks close to shore.

Casting was also improved with these bait clips so the leader was streamlined nicely along the leadcore or whatever one would use.
