I picked up a couple of rods advertised as 2.5tc wkns. There are no markings, so it was a bit of a punt but for 30 quid for two I didn't mind.

First things, they aren't the same tc.

One is very slightly heavier and the tip section stiffer, so I'm guessing one is 2.25 and one 2.5 or maybe one 2.5 and the other 2.75 - any way a bloke at home can figure this out?

Here's the odd bits...

The tip sections are both slightly longer, see pic and the whipping isn't how I've seen it on Daiwa wkns before.

So for anyone who can remember that far back, did Daiwa do the blanks for custom builds or have I ended up with something else that looks like wkns?

And why would the bottom section have been trimmed by an inch?

If I remember correctly, I think Trev's of Wilmslow offered custom built options on the WKN's. Judging by the rings, I would say these have at least had a rebuild, what are the butt section
/handles like?

Split foam handles.

Single 1 legged 30mm eye on butt sections.

Side by side, the eyes aren't aligned all the way up. On one blank they about half an inch further up compared to the other.

going back a bit, mid 90s; my mate bought three s/h Trev's AKNs, 2x 2.25s and a 2.75 they had single leg rings throughout, definitely a two+ one set.
Oh I bought a couple of s/h Trevs rods, 13ft 3.5tc Century Canons around 2000, they also had single legs, caught my only fish from Knotford Lagoon on one of those broomsticks.

A few places offered custom builds . The ones you have got look like factory builds to me. Not every one that came out of the factory were identical. When they came out i bought a pair from my mums kays catalogue about a month later i bought another and it was totally different . The guides were spaced differently and the handle was a different length . Good rods in the day . Extremely dated now.

Didn't know they could be bought from the catalogues lol. Lovely to fish with, caught on one of them on Saturday too. Great fun.

Did you then come back downstairs with the catalogue and deflect with a comment such as " erm, I quite like these Doc Martens " 😄
